The female tour guide took it upon herself to use off colored words during tour. She must have been observant enough to note no children were present. I was taken back by her use of the F word and S word.
Surely you hire people who have more imagination and vocabulary so they do not have to resort to these words. Have taken several tours from NYC to San Diego, enjoyed my historical tours without this language.
Just because you speak of sailors doesn’t mean you must speak like a drunken one!
Beer was best part of tour!
    Female Bar tender was great!
Thank you, will recommend your establishment!

This tour was so interesting! I also felt a sense of excitement the whole time because of how creepy the vibes were down there! I love that our tour guide incorporated stories of ghost encounters including her own strange experiences. Highly recommend anyone who has interest in history or paranormal to take this tour.

Lots of Portland history and a chance to see some of that history close up. It was an interesting 1.5 hours (you could leave after an hour if needed) that included a delightful beer tasting at the end! Our tour guide had a lot of personality (female; name started with a V….sorry, can’t remember full name) and was very passionate about Portland history which made the tour even more enjoyable. I thought it was worth the time and the money..

The tour guide started with one, and only one ghost story, that he failed to have any actual details to, but they were only guesses on what could have possibly-maybe-more than likely did not happen, but no facts. We were also disappointed that they advertised using the word tunnels. There are zero tunnels, just a small used basement. You'll walk around dizzy in a circle on a dirt floor of a busy Portland building for an hour just to duck modern water pipes over and over again. The history was interesting, but I came here for the tunnels and ghost stories- of which I got none. It was more awkward than haunted. The beer is tasty, so I'd recommend a few pints from Old Town Brewery and save some monies for another tour elsewhere.

Our recent visit to the Haunted Underground Shanghai Tunnels Tour beneath the Old Town Pizza and Brewing Co. in Portland left us utterly unimpressed. From start to finish, the experience was a letdown, and we can't help but feel like we wasted both time and money on what turned out to be a lackluster excursion.
Firstly, the "haunted" aspect of the tour was practically nonexistent. Instead of encountering spine-chilling stories or paranormal activities, we found ourselves surrounded by nothing but business stored items cluttering the basement. The so-called "Shanghai Tunnels" seemed to be little more than a storage space for the restaurant above. Disappointingly, the only things haunting this tour were the creaks of the footsteps of the customers above.
The guide's efforts to make something out of nothing were painfully evident. The overenthusiastic attempts to create an atmosphere of mystery and intrigue fell flat as we were led through a maze of pipes and wires overhead. It was as if the guide was desperately trying to compensate for the lack of genuine historical or supernatural content. Instead of authentic tales, we were subjected to a forced narrative that did little to capture the imagination.
The beer tasting, which was supposed to add a unique twist to the tour, felt like an afterthought. The selection was mediocre at best, and the entire experience seemed like an excuse to charge an exorbitant fee for what amounted to a subpar brewery visit.
Save your money and seek out more authentic and engaging experiences elsewhere, as this tour does little more than exploit the intriguing history of the area for financial gain.

Before I give my Critique of the tour please please be aware that when I initially signed up for the tour I was under the impression we were going to actually be going down INTO The Shanghai Tunnels themselves, that being said The Birthday-Girl and M had never been on a walking tour before (I've been on several but none at night). The most exciting part of the tour happened at our final stop for beer tasting of the night. I turned to answer a question from the B-Girl (who was on my Left, M was across the table to my Right) when my beer glass lifted itself off the table about a ½ inch and flew to the edge of the table. When it reached the tables edge it tilted to the right so that the Bottom of the glass hit my Left thigh completely covering my lap in beer. Then it flew under the table and Hit M's foot so hard she yelped and yelled "why did you throw your glass at me?" Before I could even answer B-Girl said "She didn't throw it...it threw itself." The 2 guys who were sitting closest to us saw this happen and they were so Freaked Out they got up and moved to the other end of the table. All in all, it was a fun tour, but just be aware that you will NOT be going into the underground Tunnels.

The pizza place is great. The beer was good and I enjoyed the interior, as you can tell they have tried to preserve or honor the history of the building. The guide and tour itself left a lot to be desired. She boasted of being a wealth of knowledge and facts but throughout the tour, whenever anyone asked any questions, she would just say “I got you….” And not answer the question. When asked when they would get the answer, she said she would give it at the tasting at the end of the tour. Why not just answer it in the moment, when it was on their minds? She seemed to be more worried about the theatrics of what she was saying, than actually saying anything at all. Her condescending attitude completely turned me off to the experience. Many of the people in the group that weren’t previously affiliated were stuck making looks at each other, confused and disappointed. The concept is great. The beer tasting in the basement bar is great. I think the execution, atleast with this tour guide, could use some work. I look forward to finding the answers to my questions online.

What a disappointment this was. We started late, ended early and saw very little of interest in between. This tour is overhyped as a tour through haunted tunnels, but in reality, it's a very boring and underwhelming walk through the basement (and storage area) of a hotel. There was nothing to see and nothing of note. It was a total waste of $40.

The guide took us into the basements of several buildings and told us stories about how strong men were "shanghied." They got them drunk and gave them drugs so that they could drag them onto ships to work on the voyages to China. The "tunnels" do not go anywhere near the waterfront, although they may have in the past. Our guide also tried to convince us that the the "tunnels" (basements) are haunted.
That is a summary of the experience and it is not worth the time or cost!

However, the beer and the pizza in Old Town Pizza at the end was very good. That is not a reason to go on the tour--one can just go in and have beer and a pizza!

It is more of a basement tour. They only had one video of an alleged haunting. The tour guide was so irritating. She went back and forth being herself and then trying to do a character. She should have just talked in her normal voice because she was nice and energetic. They are adding displays so it might get better… VERY steep steps
Wear flats or boots. Not cold. I would have given this a one star except the beer and pizza were yummy. Oh - beer tasting is a joke - two half full little plastic shot glasses of beer. Luckily they do give you a token to get a free beer upstairs.
