About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- CJ1120150 contributionsExcellent wine tasting /touring experienceWe were a small group of 10: 4 friends in their 30s, a couple in their 30s, two solo folk in their 50s and a couple in their 60s with Shawn as the driver, guide, and all-knowing expert on many topics ( wine, the region, Oregon history, etc). It was a great day…we visited three vineyards of different sizes and were guided in the tastings by representatives at each. Shawn was helpful in laying out the day’s itinerary, facilitating the group buying lunch, providing boxes for us to take wine home ( he told us Alaska Airline has a “wine flies free“ program!) and then dropping us directly at the hotel with our box ( it was near the pickup place). He was great! We learned a lot about Oregon wineries, the soil, the history and of course developed a more refined palate! Highly recommend the tour.Written 10 October 2024
- dshardin0 contributionsGreat DayWe had a great informative day tour. Learned so much about salmon, history of the area and the building of the lodge at Mt Hood. Shipped some jam home from fruit stand we stopped out so still enjoying the fruits of our trip. Fully recommend this tour.Written 26 September 2024
- leslieb2970 contributionsA beautiful day in the Willamette Valley! It was a wonderful day in the Willamette Valley! Our tour guide Shahn was very knowledgeable and made the day so enjoyable. I loved the chosen wineries. I learned so much about the Oregon wine industry and Pinot Noir. I couldn't recommend it enough!Written 13 September 2024
- SLGTravel0 contributionsWonderful Wine in WillametteWe lucked out with a great group! Our leader, Shahn was well organized and helped the group bond. He is super smart and shared his passion with us. We had three unique tastings large to small vineyards and enjoyed them all! Thanks to the team - it made our visit seamless & so so enjoyable!Written 25 July 2024
- LorannH0 contributionsPerfect mix of wineries-amazing guideShahn was a fantastic guide. He is a lifetime Portland resident and incredibly knowledge about the historic geological makeup of the area that was fascinating to understand how Wiilamette can have such a variety of different wines. He picked the perfect mix of wineries starting with a larger vineyard and ending with micro winery. It was great to have that comparison. The market e we got to order what we wanted for Lunch had a great mix of choices- even gluten free crust pizza which my friend said was good. He made the whole day easy and special. It was an especially hot day and he even made sure the wine we previously purchased didn’t overheat. When I get to return to Portland I will absolutely book again with Shahn.Written 20 July 2024

- mariekP2563QX0 contributionsExcellent wine tour with ShahnThis was our first tour with Sea to Summit, and my husband and I had a wonderful and educational experience with the Williamette Valley Wine tour. We're from California and often visit wineries and take tours, but this one was the best by far. Our tour guide, Shahn, a 2nd level sommelier and grew up in the Willamette Valley, was incredibly knowledgeable about wines and local history. We learned about the rich soils and winemaking history of the Willamette Valley, as well as its present and future. The valley's soil is unique due to ancient volcanic activity and the Missoula Floods, which brought mineral-rich sediments that are perfect for viticulture. These elements create an ideal terroir for growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and other grape varieties, giving the wines distinct flavors and complexity. Shahn also shared insights into the evolution of winemaking in the region, from its early days to its current status as a world-renowned wine-producing area. We discussed the innovative techniques being used by local winemakers to enhance the quality of their wines and the sustainable practices being adopted to preserve the environment. Looking to the future, Shahn highlighted the potential for new grape varieties to be introduced and the continued growth of boutique wineries that focus on small-batch, high-quality production. We visited three wineries: Rex Hill/A to Z, Torii Mor, and Tresori. Shahn brought lunch from the Red Hill Market, which we enjoyed at Torii Mor during our wine tasting.Rex Hill is a large winery with delicious Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Torii Mor's Pinots were a bit too young, but their Viognier port wine was good. Tresori, a small "micro" winery on the slopes of Chehalem Ridge, was peaceful and beautiful. Although the wine steward at each winery explained the wines, Shahn added even more insights. We ended up joining Rex Hill and Tresori wine club. The Mercedes 4x4 van was comfortable, making the tour even more enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Thank you, Shahn.Written 10 June 2024
- jessicamL8825EQ0 contributionsFantastic Wine TourWhile attending a wedding in Portland for the weekend, we gathered with 8 family and friends to take a private wine tour with Sean as our guide. Communications prior, during, and after our tour were very clear and we were quickly responded to when we had questions before the tour. Joshua was very accommodating to all our requests and Sean assisted us with ordering lunch to be picked up between wineries. We were taken to 3 very different wineries where we felt we received the full experience the valley had to offer which included a large, medium, and small winery. Our group all found wines they loved throughout the day, the van was spacious and comfortable, the scenery was amazing, and Sean was very knowledgeable of the vineyards and valley’s history. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic weekend and we would highly recommend this very professional touring company.Written 18 November 2023
- 736aimeel0 contributionsGirls afternoon out WINING!My girlfriends and I took this tour, not knowing quite what to expect and Sean was great! So knowledgeable and taught us more than we had ever realized there is to wine making (as we are not as much experts at producing as we are drinking). He was so accommodating and friendly. Also helped us with other things to do around Portland and places to eat. Would definitely recommend this tour company and guide as owner Joshua is also wonderful to work with. - MargauxW4000 contributionsRidiculously good wine, excellent dealJosh and the entire Sea to Summit team were amazing! They coordinated our private tour for my birthday perfectly—our group had a few tricky schedules/specific needs and it wasn't a problem—and they made the whole experience ridiculously fun. Josh knows everyone at each winery and can find you the best deals, the wine was ridiculously good, I can't believe how much wine we got for the price. My friend booked another tour for her in-laws the next day—definitely recommend.Written 16 August 2023
- laurennR728HB0 contributionsExcellent wine tour with a knowledgeable guideExcellent tour from Shahn. He was an excellent driver and was knowledgeable about the surrounding area and the wines. He told us a lot of stories and kept the conversation going. He chose a great local place for lunch and we really appreciated him going back to get our lunch for us while we were at the second winery.Written 31 July 2023
- Sj09290 contributionsAmazing and beautiful day wine tastingMy friend and I had an amazing and fun time at the Willamette Valley wine group tour. We were picked up in a central location in downtown Portland. Prior to the tour, we were given email and text message reminders with clear instructions on where we will be meeting. I even got a courtesy call the a few minutes prior to pick up where the van will be parked at. We were picked up in a comfortable Mercedes Benz van. We were 12 people total including our guide, Sean. Before our first stop, our guide, Sean, gave us an overview of the geologic history of the Willamette Valley. It was interesting to learn, especially since I have been a Portland resident for several years and never been wine tasting in the area! We visited 3 lovely wineries each with 4-6 tastings — all in very beautiful scenic areas. It’s really nice that the tastings are included in the tour — not all tours will do this. We also got to stop in a local deli to pick up lunch (both hot and cold food available). Our guide Sean was great as he had our group order, dropped us off at the 2nd winery and went back to pick up our orders to minimize wait times and maximizing wine tasting time. I was impressed by the above and beyond service. Overall, highly recommend!!!Written 10 June 2023
- jessical679870 contributionsWould do it 100 more times!Would recommend this time and time again. Sean was amazing, knowledgeable, and made the experience individualized. Learned so much about Oregon and it’s unique wine region. Amazing!Written 2 June 2023
- SusanV3090 contributionsGreat tour, great guide, great small groupGreat trip! We visited three wineries. Our take-out lunch was also very good, and we enjoyed it at one of the wineries. Sean was very knowledgeable about history, geography, and told many stories about the region. I would happily do this tour again as the wineries can vary from tour to tour. Bring cash for gratuities for the winery staff as well as your guide.Written 22 May 2023

Our host was absolutely phenomenal! He did a fantastic job of sharing Oregon history with us, making sure that we saw all the great waterfall sites and was so accommodating to the entire group. One thing I would suggest, is pack your snacks or lunch and bring it with you as lunch is not provided. He does provide water and snacks, umbrellas if needed and because I forgot my rain jacket, he pulled one from the back for me to use. JT truly cares about making sure his guest have a wonderful experience.

Excellent tour, friendly, prompt, knowledgeable, and able to accommodate me last minute..thank you! I could not have asked for more. The falls just opened the day before my arrival in Portland and the previous tour I had set up did not answer my repeated phone calls to verify pick up and even told me by email the falls were closed so I was left scrambling. I was so excited to see the falls as I had planned months ago. Having a private tour was very nice and the price was very reasonable. If I ever have the opportunity to come to Portland again I will definitely seek this company first. The owner grew up here and is the 2nd oldest touring company here. He will make your tour special for sure

Can’t say enough about Sea to Summit’s service. They responded to my questions promptly and addressed all my concerns about Covid precautions. Joshua suggested we consider a private tour — more expensive but well worth it for peace of mind. We’ll look forward to booking another trip next time we’re in Portland. Thanks guys!!

This was a fantastic tour! Our guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and insightful, and accommodating to our group. He was right on time for the trip, and the van was clean and comfortable. He suggested an earlier time to avoid the crowds, which was a very good suggestion as it got very crowded when we left. I would highly recommend this tour and this tour company.

Great, Awesome, Best. Booked a half day with Sean and learned so much - Geology, History, Botany, Hydrology, I could go on. Sean's deep knowledge and lifetime in and around Oregon added so much. Book this tour - you will be delighted.
