- littlehelen20100 contributionsVillage tour experienceVery poor. The hospital was more of a family planning clinic/maternity type check up clinic. Gentleman taking me round expected a donation. I had already paid a lot of money for this tour being a solo traveller. Witch doctor was a man sitting in a partly build house full of rhubbish. Parts of tour was enjoyable it just was not value for money.Written 31 December 2024
- 129soniad0 contributionsA genuine local experience with a dedicated guideWe loved the tour! It was the perfect ending to our 1 week vacation in Zanzibar. I would definitely book with them again if I were to come back. Pick up was on time. Our guide was very attentive to our needs. Gave us advice as we went along. And spoke French very well to share the stories of Prison Island and Stone Town. Our driver was just as friendly and helpful. It was a beautiful day. And I definitely recommend taking the tour with the lunch to experience the local food in a local setting. Thank you for this beautiful day!Written 18 August 2024

- pldelaney0 contributionsBar-hopping in Zanzibar! Our group of 8 had the most amazing time with Yuma for the pub crawl. We got to experience Zanzibar night life first hand with an experienced and knowledgeable guide. We tried the different local beers and got to walk through the town center. Our favorite pub was the last one we visited…the CCM Bar. This was an outdoor bar that was filled with almost all locals and had live entertainment. We had so much fun here we didn’t want to leave. Highly recommend this tour! It was a fantastic night!Written 8 January 2024
- 492shereem0 contributionsFun night outA really fun night out! Our guide met us at the Old Fort - and we set off on our tour. We visited Mercury Bar on the water, a gorgeous rooftop bar and then a party bar overlooking the water. Our guide made sure we all had our yummy drinks, and ensured we all got home safe and sound! We danced the night away!Written 18 August 2023
- A4151NOkathyp0 contributionsFun and EducationalMy friends and I really enjoyed this tour. The guides gave in depth information about all of the plants and we learned so many interesting things. It was a combination of walking trails and looking at plants and sitting and listening to information and watching the process of cooking with the plants and spices. They made it fun and entertaining. If you are interested in plants and spices, I highly recommend this tour.Written 17 June 2023
- 861wingyant0 contributionsStrongly recommendedI love this tour and i would recommend it to everyone. As a solo female traveler my guide Ahmed makes me feel safe. And he is very informative. the compelling story he tells about the abortion of slave trade makes me feel so moved. It is worths it This is my second time joining zanzibar local experience. Both are very great and both guides make me feel safe as a solo female traveler.Written 18 February 2023
- 515medjinel0 contributionsSkip, just go to JozaniThis was nothing to write home about to me. Unless you're going to swim in the fresh water cave or with others - I wasn't too impressed. Tour guide was very meh - just walked and explained a bit about the cave. The Rock Restaurant is a tourist trap - not a fan just something cool to look at. I did the Jozani add on and that was pretty decent.Written 27 December 2022
- leonbraithwaite90 contributionsBreath takingly good. Full of history along with sadnessHad an amazing experience which was set by my host who was extremely knowledgeable, sincere and warm. - 160alinaw0 contributionsHorribleAbsolutely horrible! I felt so bad for the dolphins. They were chased by 11 boats everyone they came to the surface all the boats went full speed to that spot and surrounded them, the driver all shouted „jump, jump, now, now“. Once in the water, the dolphins were long gone, clearly did not want any contact. That was repeated a few times and then we went to a snorkeling spot for 10 minutes with almost nothing to see and the equipment was partly broke. The dolphins were chased by boats all the morning. Please don’t book that tour if you like animals!Written 3 October 2022
- frodej1530 contributionsPoorly executedThis can be done so much better! The boats are not easy to get in or out of the water from. They are all the same. We were out at the break of dawn, first boat out from the beach. The night had been windy, and the swell was really big. It felt unsafe going out, but it quieted down quickly. After a while of driving around we saw dolphins, but they were nowhere to be seen as we got in the water. This happened a few times, but eventually we found a pack with seven dolphins who where really curious and stayed with us for several minutes. What an experience! They swam around, over and under us, as we where snorkeling and duck diving down. Several boats came, and eventually it started feeling like a bit of a circus, so we went back to shore. I have read several negative reviews on how the boats are chasing the dolphins, not leaving them alone. I see the point in these reviews, though personally I felt like the dolphins chose to stay with us. We were in the water several times, and most times the dolphins where gone before we got in. This one time, they seemed playful and curious at us, and when they were done, they disappeared. For me, it was a wonderful experience from a boat not suited for the purpose.Written 23 July 2022
- Alfie M0 contributionsGreat experience but I had ethical concernsReally nice to see these huge, old tortoises, who seem to have lots of space and to be fed well. They really did seem to seek out the affections of tourists and as far as I saw everyone was respectful. Really cool experience. However, please note that the young tortoises are kept in a small cage until they are old enough to be let out with the bigger ones. I was told this was for their own safety. There was NOT enough space in this cage. Dozens and dozens of small tortoises were crammed in together, stepping over and on top of each other. I think you should consider whether you want to support that before you go - I’m not sure I should have done.Written 4 June 2022

- samgunn0 contributionsSuper organised and friendly companyWe used Zanzibar Local Experiences for all our transfers around the island and they were super organised, very responsive and friendly. We took 4 or 5 taxis in total and every single the taxi arrived early or bang on time - I'd be lucky to get that kind of service in London! The cars were very comfortable and all the drivers were extremely nice and we loved getting to know each of them! Great company and highly recommend.Written 15 February 2022

We were meet on time at our hotel by the guide Juma (we think this is the correct spelling) and guided through the streets to enjoy our drink over looking the city from the roof top of a local hotel. We then proceeded to the food market where his knowledge and advise on what to eat or dont eat was fantastic whilst provising a history lesson. He made us feel confortable and safe during the vist and the food provided was fantastic and he introduced us to several vendors. We highly recommend this tour and our guide.

The whole tour was excellent. I met a couple of other tourists for this tour. We walked through many streets of Zanzibar, and he gave me many insights about the places we were passing by. Also, it was my first day watching the sunset from the rooftop, and it was terrific. He was fun and well-experienced as a tour guide. One of the best parts of the tour was when we went to a night market at Forodhani Park and had all sorts of food. I highly recommend this tour to other tourists who want to experience the nightlife in Zanzibar.

We had a wonderful evening. Ahmad picked up on time at designated meeting point. We walk thru stone town and market with an explanation of what we were seeing. We passed through walkways and alleys used by locals we would never have otherwise seen. Afterwards we had a drink at the top of Swahili House. Took lots of photos and saw the sunset. Then walked through Stone Town to the Night Food Market at Forodhani gardens and sampled some really good food, finishing with a local coffee.

Our guide timed our experience just right for us to see a sunset from the rooftop as we sipped fresh juice. Then we headed into the streets to see the local markets. We were able to ask lots of questions about the local life and the different produce we saw along the way. When we got to the street food, our guide was able to tell us what is safe to eat, and explained to us what was in the different options. The food was absolutely delicious, and my friend and I were both stuffed after all the food that was included in this tour. And the best part is that you get a private guide.

Really disappointing tour.
The guide was 20 mins late.
The first stop is a bar for a drink, but there was no reservation for the group so 11 of us encroached on a small group that were already sat there. Drinks were average and just served with standard nuts, nothing particularly interesting or local from Zanzibar.
The market was bustling but we were sat behind the shawarma stores in a dark area backing onto the water. We couldn't see any stalls at work not any other customers passing through. The guide disappeared to get the food and bring it back to us, meaning we got no explanation of what we were eating (in the dark) and no chance to see it prepared.
As we left we saw a tabled seating area that was well lit and in the middle of th market which would have been far better.
This tour was a real let down, no walking, no interaction with those making the food and the guide was no more than a waiter. Waste of money and time!

I went this evening with Ahmad for the Stone Town Walk Tour, and it was definitely a memorable and scenic culinary experience. Ahmad is so friendly, easy going, and personable; I felt so comfortable and educated every step of the way. Learning about a region through its food gives great perspective, and when this is combined with information on the history and culture of Stone Town, you are left with a solid and grounded framework for this culturally diverse area. I really appreciate Ahmad’s approach to the tour, which is insightful and yet not rushed, leaving time for me to stop, reflect and enjoy the scenery and moment as well on my own, or to talk with him about rich cultural details that leave a mark of the soul of this place on anyone who experiences it. Highly recommend. Thanks Ahmad!

Not very informative about the city. The guide spoke little apart from the few key phrases learned by heart. A succession of places and dishes already chosen and organized in advance. Not bad for a first approach to the city at the end of the day.

We experienced this tour during the Eid which made it difficult to assess the tour and get a full experience of food in Zanzibar. The guide was knowledgeable of the history of stone town and made the best out of a small group with large crowd. Food was light appetizers with decent portion, however, would have liked more food options.

We had an enjoyable and delicious evening. Our guide picked us up, on time, at our hotel. We strolled through the streets and local markets of Stone Town with excellent explanations of the history, sites and local culture. We enjoyed a lovely sunset drink at the Swahili House. When we arrived at the Forodhani Night Food market our guide was able to explain the different street food options and what was safe to eat. We had fun, insightful conversations with the various vendors. The food was excellent. Highly recommend this tour.

I took this evening tour after taking a foodie tour during the day. I was worried that this might just be more of the same, but it was not. The tour started out with a beer at a rooftop bar (I tried Kilamanjaro, not a bad lager) followed by a stroll down to all food booths at Fordhani Gardens. There we had Zanzibar mix, which had already had once that day. However, this rich broth dish with some street food "thrown in" was different in both locations, with the broth being the star. We also had Zanzibar pizza which I had been looking forward to trying, and found yummy, and Shawarma. To finish we had fresh sugar cane juice with lime. My only complaint about this tour was that I was too full to try any of the other yummy dishes I was smelling. Excellent evening with good food and good people watching.

We really like the idea of the sunset local beer and the Forodhani Gardens' nighttime food market.
We also like the idea of a 2-3 hour historical tour to see more of the town. Could those two tour be combined into one? Say after 3 p.m. on Friday, September 30th. This would be for 6 people. We fly in on Thursday and fly out on Saturday, so Friday is our one opportunity to see Stone Town. We want to experience as much as we can.
