we were on the Sun Princess and only found out about the $US69.00 visa fee once we were onboard! We decided not go ashore after all and tried to cancel for the 3 weeks prior to the tour. On board ship, as everyone knows, the wifi is slow, but we eventually had the response 'Your cancellation has been noted'. So far we have had no refund or paperwork saying that the tour had been cancelled even though it was well within the cancellation period. Please confirm that you received our cancellation notice and send the refund. Your tour guide on the ground can confirm we did not attend. Thank you. booking nos are available.

I enjoy history more than shopping for stuff so I really liked this tour. In three hours we covered the most historical aspects of Stone Town. My guide knew all the aspects of the 20th century Sultanate and its downfall- which he recounted as went from room to room in the old Royal complex As we progressed into the old Fish Market, my guide even knew the history of the selling of meat and Fish in Zanzibar and the old local customs that surrounded the trades. The one shop we did stop at was old and serious and had many beautiful old things from before the 1963 revolution. In fact a recent US President had shopped there not too long ago! My guide was very professional and I was very happy with my tour. Highly recommended!

We booked the tour online a couple of weeks before arriving in Zanzibar - very nice and easy through Viator. Also payed everything online. Our guide knew everything there is to know about Zanzibar and Stone Town. So we saw all the historic buildings and learned all about the fantastic city. The guide was friendly, spoke fairly good english and was on time. The tour was from 9:00-12:30, which we thought was very good value for the price we paid. Would definitely recommend doing this tour on your first day in Stone Town.

No need a guide, you can make it alone. Nothing interesting anyway. Freddy Mercury hours and few more places...

Very important to have a tour guide as area is very confusing plus you really don't know what you are looking at. Even with a guide book, so much easier and pleasant to have a guide and it is not expensive. As well, I was looking for a particular shop which he took us to whereas I never would have found it on my own. Very interesting place full of history. Architecture interesting as it passes through and reflects history and who ruled at the time. The market was crazy - absolutely the highlight for me! Frantic energy and tons of people. Also got recommendations from the guide re other things to do and see and where to eat so well worth the minimal cost of the tour.

Because I got lost in the maze decided to take the tour. I did a 5pm one to hopefully get out of the brutal heat. Loved seeing freddy mercurys home. Saw the slave quarters which is very hard to see what people can doto each other spice market etc. Worth doing.

Excellent. Interesting to see the old slave market and the different markets. There were lots of people and it was hot. Carry drinking water. The Buildings are very worn and need renovating.

Mohammed (Amigo) of Colors of Zanzibar conducted our walking tour. He was efficient and knowledgeable. He was attentive to our group. If you love history, this is a tour that you cannot miss.
We were not hurried. I had trouble with the humidity but did get a break with a brief rain shower.

Colors of Tanzania were easy to contact via Whatsapp and quick to reply, which made it very easy to book last minute.
We have just finished a fantastic tour through Stone Town covering all the highlights from the beginning of this small towns long historical timeline.
Our guide Mbana (not sure on spelling) was excellent, he answered all our questions and didn't miss anything.
Thank you so much

Sorry I didn't see your question earlier, as I think you wanted to take this tour yesterday. Hope you were able to direct your question to "Colors of Zanzibar," as I only posted a review and have no role in scheduling the tours.

Hi, we wanted to do the Stone Town walking tour for about 3 to 4 hours on 8th of March this year. We are 3 people including one 80 year old lady. We will be staying at Blue Bay. Is there any way we can be picked up from there and be dropped back after the tour? If so how much would it cost.

This looks great. We'll be travelling from Jambiani so we need to know firstly how long it will take to get to ST from there and also what time the tour begins? We arrive 13th Jan and would like to do the tour on the 14th in the morning, ideally.

A general question please: how much should one tip: the porters, the guides, etc. I always seem to tip either too much or too little.

Usually in Zanzibar tips are around 1000-2000 shillings for small services, and if you spend more time with the person (like a guide or driver) you can tip more. But tipping is not necessary if you are already paying for the service, like a taxi drive or a guided tour :)
