- ALCritt00Sunset successThis sunset cruise was exactly what I hoped for. Some good history and great views. Temperatures are colder (and windy) out on the lake, so a jacket and scarf was necessary in September.
- jocelynmI7655YR00Excellent tourBest experience in Chicago. The tour guide Dan was hilarious and informative, learned lots of fun facts and gained a greater appreciation for this beautiful city! Glad we didn’t do the longer tour 45 min was just the right length tour for our 8 year old. Boat was packed but looked like everyone got a seat. We went early 40 minutes prior to ticket time to line up
- juliabS5958SZ00Great serviceI bought my tickets a day early and didn’t realized I put the wrong date and Wendella’s team was so gracious to honor my tickets and let me board Thank you for that you made our experience unforgettable
- B903YHkarenw00Fun, informative tour of Chicago's architectural beautyMy friends and I recently took this tour and had Alex as our tour guide. We had such a great time learning the history and structural wonders of the buildings along the river and lake front. Alex was entertaining and had a wealth of knowledge of not just the buildings but where to get good food too. He is also a great photographer, offering to take groups shots in front of the skyline. This tour really enhanced our weekend in Chicago. Thanks!
- brada45600Best way to see the skylineThis is the best view of the city hands down. Dress for wind as it gets a bit cooler in the water. Nice tour!
- Guide75286000Great way to end the eveningDave and crew were awesome! The cruise was more than I had expected. Would definitely recommend taking the sunset cruise
- Lisa Y00Great experienceGreat experience! The tour was informational and fun. The tour guide was engaging. The 45 minute tour was the perfect balance of getting time to see major landmarks from a unique view and not taking up a large portion of the day. Highly recommend.
- Amanda H00Excellent River Tour in ChicagoExcellent tour. Really informative and just the right amount of time. Great to get to see the city from the River. The weather was perfect which also probably helped. Highly recommended.
- Carlos C00Amazing Tour!!This tour was amazing!! Highly recommended, 45 minutes tour was good enough for our short time visit. We start the tour on time and the boat was very clean.
- D4316VRlisa00Noisy, overloaded vesselI believe I heard them say there were 209 paying customers plus staff on the boat. We were squeezed into narrow rows on chairs. Hard to see details of the locks if you didn’t stand up. Even when the tour guide asked people to sit down so everyone could see, many people didn’t which made it harder for seated guests to see. It was hard to hear Phyllis, our tour guide, as people were talking loudly over her and there was no where to move away from the inconsiderate passengers since we were all wedged onto the vessel like sardines. Ms. Phyllis had a wealth of information about the buildings and basic architecture. It was just a shame she couldn’t be heard well. I get it that they are running a business & want to maximize profits with each trip out but, in my opinion, there was about double the number of passengers there should have been. Not worth it for the price they charge.
- T7668RXshannonb00Perfect for the cost.Great tour! The guide was informative and fun. We saw the highlights of the city. Definitely will do it again.
- joyceh43600Fascinating and ProfessionalWhether you're visiting or haven't done a river or lake tour in a few years, the Chicago Lake and River Architecture leaves you informed and relaxed. If you're expecting a stand-up act of anecdotes, choose a different cruise. Our guide conveyed much enthusiasm about the buildings, city, and river history. I learned a lot and enjoyed the pleasant on-deck seating. This might not be the trip for young children since there wasn't much room to move around. Definitely worth the ticket price and you should arrive a half hour before boarding, as recommended.
- Dream0181494670500Guide ruined itPaid a lot of money to take some German visitors on the river & lake tour because I’ve done it before and it was wonderful. Unfortunately, our tour guide was more like a failed stand-up comic than a chicago expert and really ruined the experience. Bad jokes, factual errors and lots of downtime (she didn’t speak at all while we were sitting in the locks) made it feel like it was not worth the money. Next time, we will book a seat on the Seadog. That guide talked the entire time in the locks and the guests were all laughing their heads off.
- katherinewX3991QX00Amazing Architect Tour with Funny and Knowledgeable GuidesWe had a fabulous time on the architecture tour. Great views of the city. We traveled from Michigan Avenue all the way down to Chinatown. Kenny the guide was so funny and fun and so knowledgeable about the history and the current events in and about Chicago. He added some funny jokes and interesting facts and kept us very engaged and entertained. My husband and I traveled with four teens who liked it as well. They have bathrooms and drinks/snacks available for purchase below deck.
- TravelBoss1100Must when in ChicagoVery good tour. Nice boat, nice weather and very good explanation. Staff has been very carefull about us Recomended

What a fantastic way to spend an hour and a half in the lovely city of Chicago. It was informative well structured and wonderful in every way. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys learning about their surroundings. The guide was well spoken and really seems to enjoy what he is doing. We were on the 1:00PM tour on Sunday the 15th of August on a beautifully sunny afternoon. The tickets for the boat tour also gives you access to the Architectural Museum for the follow 7 days, a real bonus.

My friend and I visited Chicago and did the 90-Minute Boat tour. It was the best! Joe was our tour guide and he knows Chicago and the history like the back of his hand. He spoke in a story telling fashion and felt like we were listening to a documentary since he was so knowledgeable. We went on a Sunday at 10:30am and the weather was very nice. We booked online once we got to Chicago. I thought they would add a convenience fee but it was the same price if you bought tickets at riverwalk. They have other tour boats but we did Wendella. My co-worker also recommended doing a boat tour and it did not disappoint. The boat captain and crew also were good. I definitely would recommend this as a visitor, or as a Chicagoan who wants to enjoy learning about the city.
For tips, I read other reviews where a family got lost and had a hard time finding the pickup location so we got there at 10 am and were the first to get on the boat. The website suggests this too but realize sometime we read fast or overlook the details. There were plenty of seats but it's not necessarily the easiest to find since there are other boats. Don't hesitate to ask someone.

The Wendella Boat tour was fantastic and one of the highlights of my trip to Chicago. The tour guide, Jack, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and provided a perfect blend of Chicago architecture facts, city history, humor, and humility.
While we did battle the elements and rain, it didn’t dampen our experience and we were able to take shelter below to warm up with a cup of coffee (or alcoholic beverage). For a 90 minute tour it flew by and would be something I recommend for any tourist or experienced Chicagoan alike; highly recommend.

We haven’t been on a bout tour in Chicago in 5 years and probably over 20 years since we have been on a Wendella bout tour. We have never just taken a river cruise so that appealed to us. We were able to get reservations early that morning for a 12:15 afternoon tour and walk several blocks to board. Due to Covid restrictions masks had to worn and occupancy was limited. Sure it was a little hot wearing the masks but we both understand the necessity for precautions at this time. Our docent is a teacher and shared her knowledge of architecture and history on a relaxing, informative and pleasant 90 minute river tour of Chicago. This was a pleasant way to spend part of the day learning new things about this city and not having to do a lot of walking. Let’s face it, folks, there’s a lot of walking in Chicago if you truly want to see anything. This also provided for photo opportunities not available on land. These will be treasured for years.

I highly recommend this boat tour especially for first time visitors. Due to covid, the boat was in less than half capacity which was a plus for us. From the line to check in, to find a seat and to exit the boat, the process was so smooth and was socially distanced.
To top it all, the weather was perfect-sunny and not too breezy. The staff were all friendly and helpful too. You can buy a drink on the lower level too.
Our tour guy was hilarious and really kept our attention. We now appreciated all the building architecture and old bridges we saw during the tour due to the background and unique features.

The woman narrating the tour was very knowledgeable and had been doing this for the last 35 years. We did this tour on Labor Day, and the route we took went out onto the lake and only spent a small amount of time on the river because of the large number of small recreational boats on the river that day. It was still interesting and enjoyable, however

We did the sunset tour and I think this is the absolute best way to view the city of Chicago. Our tour guide John was thorough, knowledgeable and extremely humorous. My group and I enjoyed every minute of it.

My 2:00 Tour was actually 1:45 departure so get there early! If you want to go to the Tour from Navy Pier you will have to take a water taxi $. The tour guide was lovely and does a great job of packing the tour full of information. The buildings that are talked about are typically on the dock side of the boat. I recommend sitting somewhere its comfortable to look up and towards that side.

Comprehensive but quick introduction to Chicago's distinctive architecture with added commentary on history and culture. Highly recommend taking a river boat tour — it's much easier than driving/walking and offers great unobstructed views of nearly all of the city's wonderful buildings.
Also, it was not super-obvious from the description but this tour departed from beneath the Wrigley Building on Michigan Avenue at the end of the Magnificent Mile, which is centrally located and very convenient. Many other tours left from the Navy Pier, which is a destination in itself but not as close to other sights.

The actual tour on First Lady was terrific! The best . Our docent, Mark, was exceptional, clear and knowledgeable! I highly recommend the tour itself, but the booking agent, Ticketmaster, was horrible! Bad directions that caused much stress. Almost missed the boat due to horrible directions.
The Tickets could only be accessed through the app, and were not in the email confirmation. Then the app made me sign in and I had a struggle with the password.
When I finally got to the QR for scanning as a ticket it would flash off the screen real fast. They charge a premium for ‘service’ on Ticketmaster, but their lack of service almost cost us getting on the boat I am very disappointed in Ticketmaster and would encourage any event venue or ride to use another way to check it potential customers. But the ride the boat ride was the highlight of the trip to Chicago and I would recommend it to anyone
