My husband and I spent two hours perusing the museum. You will need at least 4 hours and could spend an entire day and not see everything. If you enter as a CityPass holder you are given access to four additional exhibits. Depending on when you visit you may want to visit these first. The Egyptian line was longer than the others. I was most interested in seeing Sue and was surprised by the special Jane Goodall exhibit which I enjoyed the most. If you go with small children, I highly encourage you to look at a map before tackling the entire museum and plan which exhibits will be most important to see. With several floors there is a lot of real estate to cover. Definitely worth a visit in my opinion. In May 2021 Covid precautions are in full effect. Limited capacity. Masks required. Sanitation centers etc.

We did not try to see everything, which kept the group from burning out. We saw the gems, dinosaur/evolution exhibit, the Pacific Islander collection, and the native American collection. The Pacific Islander collection was great and its strength is unique to the Field. The Native American collection was interesting given the Field's proximity to midwestern archaeological sites. It was not very crowded - we were the only ones in the big room with the Maori meeting house. The scientific narrative of mass extinctions through time was well told.

Exceptional museum with lots of great exhibits. Start on the top floor and work your way down, they have mummies, dinosaurs, really good exhibits about animals and the Polynesian islands, and a whole host of other things. You could easily spend 3-5 hours here if you wanted to see everything.

The Field museum is terribly outdated and in need of renovation. We were very disappointed. The exterior of the building is magnificent which makes the outdated exhibits even more painful. The interesting exhibits all required a ticket upgrade.

Thank you for visiting the Museum, we appreciate you taking the time to leave us feedback. We do have a magnificent building. We have been in our lakefront home for 100 years and we are excited that we constantly are evolving our space with new experiences. Some of our latest additions are a new suite for SUE the T. rex added in 2019 and a remodeled Stanley Field Hall with Máximo the Titanosaur and the hanging gardens in 2018. Some other recent updates include Science Hub, Crown Family PlayLab, Hall of Conservation, Regenstein Halls of the Pacific, Ancient Americas and Evolving Planet. A general admission ticket offers entry to over 35 permanent halls at the museum. One of the popular spaces, Native North America is currently undergoing a full renovation that will also be a part of the general admission experience. We will always maintain some of the classic favorites like the hall of mammals. The traveling exhibitions we feature several times a year and our new Cyrus Tang Hall of China can be added to your ticket for an additional cost. We hope on your next visit you are able to check out some of these other spaces. Thanks for your time, have a great day.

The entire museum is massive. Each exhibit by themselves is quite large, we even had a hard time trying to get out of the animal exhibits. We got the City Pass and it allows entrance to the special exhibits, which are all definitely worth walking through. The must visit of course is Sue the T-Rex on the upper level. On the bottom floor, there are only vending machine food.

We were very impressed with the world class Field Museum. It’s spacious, well lit and well maintained. Everyone was wearing masks, attendance was light, and we felt safe and unhurried. The exhibits are beautifully designed with good signage and layouts. We couldn’t help comparing it to the Natural History Museum in NYC which has gotten shabby and is much in need of updates and basic maintenance. We really enjoyed the Africa exhibits, the Egypt exhibit and the dinosaurs. We spent at least 3 hours and only managed to see a fraction, so we’ll definitely come back whenever we’re back in Chicago.

I've been to the Field many times and it never ceases to disappoint. Expect to spend at minimum four hours here to attempt to do it justice. Even then, try to take advantage of the additional hours of admission if they are available.

We bought our tickets ahead of time and that saved us a bunch of time. Just show your phone, they scan it, and on you go. We entered on the ground floor which is far faster, given the line I saw later in the day in the main hall. Masks are required for entry and throughout your stay. You don't have to show your vaccine card (although I hear that will be changing soon). I didn't eat in the cafe on the main floor but the ground floor has bending machines and tables if you need to refuel quick. They didn't check your bags so the snacks I brought in saved us money (which I in turn spent at the gift shop so it all worked out).

Depending on when you arrive, start at the main hall because that section will fill up fast. Go to the third floor and work your way down. The dinosaur exhibit should be your starting point as that is where Sue and the other iconic displays are located. I won't tell you to skip exhibits as I don't want to presume to know what you're interested in. They're all well done. My only knock is that some of them appear rather dated, specifically the reptile area on the main floor. Granted, some of the animals were conserved decades ago and you can't beat the scope of the collection (you want birds, there is darn near every bird known to earth and some that aren't anymore) but when you look at the exhibits dedicated to early earth species or Pacific cultures (which definitely warrants you going through for no other reason than to see a state of the art exhibit) and compare them to the older ones that haven't been updated in a few years, it's pretty clear.

There are sections for every interest. History people will like the Egyptian section. Science people will like the pop up displays in and around the main floor. Those into other cultures will love the Pacific and Native American sections. You just have to be prepared for a long day. Do your research before hand and come up with a plan. Some of the exhibit flow patterns can leave you double backing and/or missing sections which can make you tired and frustrated. If you know where you want to go, however, you can streamline the process and maximize your time.

It's hard to say this Museum is the best in Chicago but for me, this is a must see whenever I am in town.

Wow - fleshed out Sue is stupendous! She's going on tour soon, so check before you go. The Field is integral to Chicago history, and the taxidermy displays are historical artifacts in their own right. The best way to enjoy it is to step back in time, enjoy the old book smell, peaceful dimly-lit halls, and marvel at how breathtaking the older displays must have been in the days of limited media. Of course there are modern, interactive exhibits as well. There is so much to see and learn, it's hard to imagine any person of any age not finding at least one display worth the visit. Just wish they would streamline entry for members (at the Art Institute you simply flash your card for the scanner and you're in), which is annoyingly cumbersome.

It was so hot on Navy Pier, we hitched a water taxi ($30) to the museums. Tried going to Shed Aquarium but couldn’t get in for 2 hours. Went to Field museum, got right in ($80). Got lost in this 3 story labyrinth for hours. Lots of artifacts and dinosaur bones. My teen thought the T-Rex was “small”…I bet she’d change her mind if it was alive. $110 for AC, totally worth it.

We visited the Field Museum last month for the first time. The museum is an amazing attraction. Our first goal for our visit was to see the Sue T-Rex exhibit. This was outstanding, as well as the lead up to the Sue exhibit. There were more dinosaurs than I had anticipated, which made our visit even better. The Sue exhibit is incredible. You can actually walk around the T-Rex skeleton to take in this impressive dinosaur from different angles. There is much to see at the Field, and we did not see everything, even with spending approximately 6 hours at the museum. Overall, the museum exhibits are very well done and we hope to visit again when we come back to Chicago.
