What to expect
Depending on the option selected at booking, greet your guide at your Uyuni hotel or another central meeting spot. Board an air-conditioned coach destined for the unique Cementerio de Trenes — an expanse in which colossal, abandoned steam trains reside. Then, take a short sightseeing tour of Uyuni and its enticing food market before continuing to the town of Colchani. In Colchani, you’ll visit the quaint Museo de la Llama y la Sal (The Museum of the Lama and the Salt) and a salt processing plant before heading to the Salar de Uyuni — the world’s largest salt flat. IN a 4WD, you’ll cruise on the blinding white carpet of salt and admire one of Bolivia’s most popular attractions. Then, revitalize with lunch and continue to the Tunupa volcano, a beacon of imposing power and vibrancy. After a short tour of traditional Bolivian village, Coqueza, you’ll ascend to a viewpoint on the Tunupa volcano and marvel at panoramic views of the seemingly interminable salt flats. Return to land, browse the ancient funeral pots of Chantani and then conclude your tour by watching the sunset at Salar de Uyuni. After witnessing the slow spectacle of sunset, return to your original departure point in Uyuni.

A Unique Tour with an Inspiring Guide
Dec 2020
What an incredible trip with Huascar!! We did a private day trip into the valley and mountains to the east of Salar, and then came back to the Salar for dinner and stargazing later that night. Throughout the entire process Alan was responsive, kind, knowledge, and safe. He strictly followed all bio-security protocols and made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable.

The trip itself was incredibly unique, touring the old mining town of Pulacayo and then venturing in his well-equipped vehicle to the surrounding valley and small towns east of Mt. Cusco. At night we found a secluded spot for a dinner and star gazing, and during the entire trip Huascar was very knowledgeable of the history and culture, and the food was delicious! Highly recommend!

Amazing Experience!
Sep 2020
I strongly recommend Nomada Experience for touring the Bolivian Salt Flats and the region.
Our tour guide, Huascar, is an area expert and he speaks fluent English. We communicated easily through WhatsApp and he was always readily available for questions and planning.
We toured the salt flats during the dry season and were able to visit many sites that are not accessible during the wet season. Huascar prepared a delicious lunch for us along with our full day tour of the salt flats, the islands, volcano, and the surrounding communities. After returning to the hotel for dinner, he brought us back out to the salt flats to star gaze. It was incredible to see the Milky Way!
I am planning another trip in the rainy season and will definitely book our tours with Nomada Experience.

Private Two-day Tour with Camping
Aug 2019
This is a private tour best for photography. Camping in the middle of the salt flats where there is nobody around means that you don't have to waste time travelling to and fro salt hotels and you are able to capture the best light moments for photography. Also, the lack of light pollution in Salar de Uyuni means the best conditions for astrophotography. Camping and cooking in the middle of the salt desert (beware! temperatures plunge in the middle of the night) is also one of the best experiences I've ever had.

My guide Huascar is one of the best guides I have ever had. He brought me to picturesque places where there is nobody around and he gave me more than a couple of tips on photography. He was also very well-prepared with the camping essentialsn and he will make sure that you are well taken care of, even though you are not staying in a salt hotel. I strongly recommend Nomada experiences for the best photography and camping experience in the Uyuni salt flats.

Wonderful family trip
Jul 2019 • Family
A once in a lifetime trip with my two adult sons - 3 days & 2 nights. Our guide Huascar picked us up at the Uyuni airport. We first went to Nomada offices to finalize details and get acquainted, then off to the train graveyard and some great history, atmosphere and pictures. After that, off to a quaint village to get supplies for our trek out to the salt desert. This was more amazing than I imagined! Beautiful, white, dazzling, cold, silent, remote - and as expansive as an ocean. Huascar provided a lovely, delicious outdoor lunch in the middle of the desert complete with tablecloth and wine. What a treat! The first night we spent near Colchani in a hidden gem of a salt hotel run by a warm, kind, beautiful lady named Dona Lupe. She was delightful! Next day we visited Thunupo Volcano, Inca Wasi Island where we had lunch, more of the salt flats, took amazing pictures and spent the night at the surprisingly beautiful and luxurious Luna Salada hotel where everything is made of salt and the sunset was stunning. We had a fine dinner, witnessed a beautiful sunrise, had a nice breakfast and then off to the 3rd day of travel. We visited several turquoise lagoons, saw wildlife - flamingos, cranes, llamas, alpacas, vicunas and ostriches. Had another lovely outdoor lunch near the lagoons. Stopped at Coqueza village, the Tomave hotsprings and the Pulacayo silver mine to see the train robbed by Butch & Sundance. Then back to Uyuni to catch our overnight bus to Cochabamba. This was an amazing trip and Huascar was such a great tour guide and host! He is bilingual, knows the people in the communities, knows history, knows geography and the environment - and he's a pretty good mechanic in a pinch! I highly recommend Huascar and Nomada Experience.

Incredible Photography Adventure
Our guide, Huascar, was everything one could wish for when it comes to touring the Salt Flats. Very responsive and accommodating when it came to organizing, Huascar made our photography trip of the Salt Flat a rousing success. He completely avoided all the tourist traps and instead showed us authentic places, including a superb secluded part of the Salt Flat still covered in water, which was a tremendous photography opportunity (especially considering we went in winter). We were also treated to a full meal and tasty snacks on the Salt Flat and we had a perfect time taking pictures of the stars. Huascar is one of the best guide I've had the pleasure to meet and I highly recommend his organization, Nomada Experience.

Amazing trip with Nomada
Amazing trip with Nomada! I did a 4th day in Uyuni after doing a 3 day group tour with a different business... while the group trip was great and covered all the “must-sees” around Uyuni, I was truly pleased with my day trip with Nomada. The hotel on the night of transition (a salt hotel near Colchani) was beautiful and had warm everything (including the blankets!) - super welcome after spending nights in some very cold hospedajes. I was lucky enough to tour with Huascar - he was wonderful! Thoughtful, kind and full of information. He took me to beautiful, quiet sites geared towards my picture taking and it seemed like he knew everyone (he’s done some community work... pretty awesome; I didn’t see the same interactions with the other guides). He seems very flexible and creative and will work with all kinds of requests (from regular tours to camping to motorcycle tours). While other groups may offer lower prices, you really do get what you pay for. I left Uyuni on a great note after my day with Huascar. Will be recommending him to anyone interested in going to Uyuni!

Two Men and a Fleet

If you are making the journey to Uyuni to experience the salt flats you need, look no further than Nomada Experience. The company is run by Robin, an expat from London with an extensive background in engineering and vehicle maintenance, and Huascar, a young Bolivian with a passion for the environment and deep understanding of the dynamics of the local communities. These attributes alone make for the ideal ethno/ecological tour company. We had initially planned a one day tour, but once we began chatting over a cup of coffee in the renovated church stuffed with high test motorcycles we planned three separate tours tailored to our interests.
On Day one we took a full day motorcycle tour across the salt flats with Robin, which will stay with me until the day I die. The breathtaking expense and smooth surface made the Bonneville Salt Flats look like child’s play. If you are a Dakar junky or interested in land speed records (which now take place on the Salar) these boys are heavily involved with the strategic planning of both events, all be it an ethical battle for Huascar.
On day two Huascar collected us from our hotel and took us to the Tunupa volcano where we dinned on a sumptuous home-cooked lunch/picnic, which included an outstanding Bolivian wine, before visiting the 1500-year-old mummies. We traveled through local villages at the base of the volcano, packed with Jesuit ruins and ended the day with a romantic sunset. It’s important to note that our guide Huascar, invests a great deal of his time in the development of the local communities.
On day three we traveled to Potosi to visit the Coin House and mountain of silver. The highlight of the day was a surprise visit to Butch Cassidy’s hideout and the train that led to the notorious duo’s undoing; bullet holes included.
We stayed at the Lunar Salar, about 28 km’s from Uyuni. Our guide made the transition to personally guided tours effortless and encouraged us to bring our playlist for long drives. What more could you ask? I am the Director of Programs and Education for a Museum in the USA and will be using this company to plan future expeditions for our members. Bravo boys, we can’t wait to return.
