What to expect
Pull on your boots, and step into the cool waters of the peaceful Mendenhall Lake as you stare at the mighty Mendenhall Glacier in front of you. During this tour, you will be guided on a canoe paddle across a lake fed by the glacier melt. Your paddle dips into the water as you make your way past ice bergs, freshly calved off the glacier, the famous Nugget Falls, and beautiful mountain peak on very side. Once you round the rock peninsula, the face of the glacier confronts you like a giant. Blocks of ice stand tall, waiting for the right moment to calve into the waters. It’s truly classic scene of Alaskan beauty. Once you make landfall you will hike a short distance across rocky terrain, and onto the glacier which is in constant change with features that disappear and reappear over the course of the season. After strapping on your micro-spikes, your guide will take you on a tour of the glacier's accessible features which may include exploring the other-worldliness of an ice cave, descending into crevasses carved by melt water, or peering into the deep blue well of a moulin. Endless adventure awaits up on the glacier!

Paddle and Trek Excursion
This trip was spectacular. Paddling up to the base of the glacier was a surreal experience. The trek was a pretty casual hike through the rocks and across the ice. The guides managed to find an ice cave, which made it all the more amazing. This is a great excursion, very laid back and only slightly strenuous.
The guides are top notch and extremely knowledgeable about the glacier, it's processes, and it's history. The outfit is very professional and their gear prep and safety instructions very thorough. Definitely a life experience.

Absolutely breathtaking experience
Jun 2021
My girlfriend and I were just blown away by the beauty of the glacier. The colors were just incredible, and we had a great time paddling and hiking. Our guides, Jacques and Cory, were extremely knowledgeable, passionate about nature, and a lot of fun. Getting to hike out on the glacier with crampons was such an amazing experience.

Once in a lifetime amazing trip!
Jun 2021 • Family
This was an amazing trip! We were provided with everything we needed, snacks and water included! We had a backpack to carry, but that was no problem for any of us. The trip across the lake took a while, but it was a worth it (especially for people like us that could never hike 9 miles to the glacier) Walking on the glacier was awe-inspiring and our guides even took us to a rare ice cave! We learned about the glacier and the ice field above, and the changes they’re going through. Our guides, Leah and Jacques were fabulous, informative and funny. Even our teens had an awesome time! Money well spent, once in a lifetime trip.

Thank you for your great review and joining us! I will pass this along to Jacques and Leah. That is great you were able to see an ice cave. Ice caves are definitely a rare feature of the glacier and unpredictable when it will be formed. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip!

Time of our Lives
This was by far the one of the best tours we have ever done and we have traveled the world. This is a once in a lifetime experience. If anyone is visiting Alaska or Juneau you have to do this. Because cruise ships are not sailing this year we had small almost semi-private tour plus there wasn't another outrigger on the glacier either.

Our tour guides, Jacques and Leah were super amazing. They provide you will all the stuff you need. You get a history lesson about the glacier, the undeniable truth about climate change and its erosion, and explore places few have ventured.

AWESOME!!!
Our family of 4, including 2 teenagers will remember this for the rest of our lives. The paddle was more of a workout than we expected & the hike was not as long as we expected( I believe this is due to the changing of the glacier)but we had more time on the glacier which was a bonus!! Mitch & Elise were our guides and the were excited, kind, funny, informative and safety conscious...everything you want in a guide when you are walking on a glacier with your children! They taught us so much about the glacier, how to maneuver with our crampons, how to safely hang over a crevasse, about the changes in the glacier, how it moves, why it’s blue...I could go on and on. You don’t realize how big the Mendenhall is until you are standing on it. Thank you Mitch & Elise!

Beautiful and Amazing!!!
Sep 2019
Thank you, Jacob, for making this one of our favorite excursions!!! It was a little intimidating climbing at different angles but Jacob make it so worthwhile with safety always his first priority. If anyone needed a little help during the climb, he was more than willing to give that helping hand. We were able to see things up close that you'll never experience from a plane. So, I'd highly recommend doing this tour but a word of caution: If you don't do well with heights this is not for you. But again, thanks, Jacob, for making this a memory we will never forget.

Unique and amazing adventure
I’ll start by saying I hope this is not just a once in a lifetime adventure, but with the rate of glacial melt, I’m sorry to say it might be. We had such a wonderful time with guides Daniel and Whisper who were both so knowledgeable and friendly. They went out of their way to make all 12 guests on our canoe feel welcomed. The snack is indeed hearty-we couldn’t possibly have eaten all of it and were able to take some back with us on our cruise. Loved everything we got to see and understand that each tour is different based on what features the glacier shares that day. Not a single downside with this trip-while it’s not cheap, it’s worth the comfort of knowing we were safe and the views from the canoe and while on the glacier were well worth the effort and the money.

Thank you for sharing your feedback! The views from the canoe definitely provide a neat/unique perspective to the glacier and the views from the glacier are priceless! I will pass this along to Daniel and Whisper. Thank you for letting us be a part of your Alaskan vacation.
