Lu did an excellent job curating the tour for us. We anticipated to be a part of a group but we got lucky and it became a private tour. Overall, we had about more than 15 different types of dishes and food, including local beer and wine.
What made this tour so unique are; 1) Its later than usual so you missed the crowd and you'll see different types of crowd at night. 2) the walking route was very enlightening, interesting, and educational, 3) Lu was such a great guide that it really felt like we were friends hanging out, going out for restaurant hopping, chit chatting about everything without judgment, 4) you really feel immersed with the locals.
I must warn that some places could be a little too local for some that would not be suitable for the weaker stomach. But if you want to feel experience some true food tour "after hours", this tour is recommended.

Jim was an excellent guide. He took us to various different establishments - small eateries recommended by Michelin guide, street food stalls, hole in the wall pubs and sit down restaurants, each offering different kinds of food - and every one of them delivered on quality tasty food! Not only did he know all the ins and outs of Shanghai food scene, he also knew quite a lot of history of the city and country. Our group had a lot of fun discussing Chinese food and cuisine and other things. In the end it was a longer tour than 3 hours but Jim patiently took us around and answered all our questions.
It was my first food tour and I had a memorable experience. Highly recommend to use this as a way to get a handle of the city and cuisine.

We did the late night food tour with Patrick on a Friday night in October, it was just us two and Patrick but he is very friendly, welcoming and we felt like we were enjoying a night with a friend. All of the places went to were great and we felt like we really got to see some hidden gems of Shanghai that we wouldn't have found on our own. We especially enjoyed the peanut noodles, which were delicious! Beers along the way and dessert at the end were much appreciated too! We would highly recommend the late night food tour with Patrick to see more of the food scene that Shanghai has to offer, particularly if you're only in the city for a few days and want to get a deeper insight that you probably wouldn't have time for on your own.

The title of the Food Tour was an understatement! I saw way more than the French Concession. I was expecting good Shanghai Street Food but what I got was street food that Anthony Bourdain would have captured on camera! A hint of Indian-Shanghai fusion Curry Beef Soup paired with delicious peanut sauce-based noodles, Uyghur BBQ with a cold beer, an incredible introduction to the world of dumplings from Wonton soup'ish delights to fried dumplings prepared while we could watch to Northern Chines steamed pork dumplings that blew my mind. Fresher than fresh. My guide Jim ate as much as I did which made it all the more fun. Better than any skyscraper trip. Thanks Jim. Cheers and see you soon, Manfred

Jade is friendly, knowledgeable, and fun! We had wonderful food from places the locals enjoy! I cannot say enough good things about this tour, if you go to Shanghai I highly recommend it. We went on a Thursday, with only 3 people in the group, so it was very personal, not crowded. Thanks Jade for the wonderful food tour!

Was top notch experience. The eaterys were very unassuming but the food was A+++. Even better was the host who was extremely well spoken, very knowledgeable to the history of Shanghai. I learnt so much in just a short period. Also the food was more than you can eat!

I was on a solo trip. In spite of being quite full from a team lunch, and the rainy weather, I decided to go do this tour anyway and I’m so glad I did! Our guide was Patrick, and we had a really small group - 2 other solo travelers like me. Patrick took us to places we would never walk into, and fed us foods we’d all eaten so many times before - but it sure never tasted like this before. Amazing dumplings, noodles, dim sum, pastries and more - the places, the vibe, the food and the company - all top notch! Highly recommend. Turned out to be the best time I had in Shanghai in the end

I spent 3 days in Shanghai, and this food tour was the highlight of my stay. Jade was knowledgeable, funny, and introduced me to delicacies I would have never found on my own. The restaurants were little gems nestled in inconspicuous places. Not only did I taste the best sea urchin dumplings, but I also learned facts about the city's history and its people. I had a great evening!

I had great time exploring different little places with unique food sampling, from Shanghai food to Xian grilled style food. Cold crisp beer was also served and it complemented food well.
The guide was very knowledgeable in explaining different style cuisine and was very friendly to chat and spend time with.
I would highly recommend this tour for local cultural and gastro immersion.

I booked today's event, however I cancelled a couple hours later. The cancellation email states no refunds. Will I still be able to attend since I did not get my refund?
Written 25 November 2019
My guess is that it will be fine if you show up but better to email Lu and let him know that you are coming. I have his direct email but the website algorithm is so good it would not let me post any variation of it.

Would you recommend this tour as well when you don’t eat any fish or shell food?
Written 28 July 2019
Yes.
No fish at all and just few sea food. You will have other options when sea food comes.
Written 28 July 2019
Would love to take this tour but I have celiac and can’t eat gluten so eating in China is always a challenge , are there any gluten free options in this tour that I can have while my friends enjoy gluten galore ?
Written 31 January 2019
Doubt it. The language problem is severe!! Stick to meat and fish only. Don’t trust in the ability of your guide to be able to ensure it is gluten free. Remember soya sauce is not necessarily gluten free

My wife and I are interested in your night tour. Are you still doing it? $85 pp? What does it include? does it include the food or is that extra? I will be there Oct 25-29. Which night is the best night?
Written 9 September 2018
Does the guide do pick ups at hotels? I’m traveling alone, not comfortable with taking subway or transportation by myself.
Written 7 June 2018
No, but you meet him at the French Concession. Taking a taxi is very safe and inexpensive. Your hotel can get you a taxi and tell the driver where to take you. Shanghai is very safe. We were two women and felt very comfortable walking all around. We were never hassled and most people were happy to help us if we got lost.
