We had a fantastic evening on the food tour. Jim was great and took us to a range of different places, all of them authentic and delicious. He is very knowledgeable, not just on the food but on the history of the country which we found fascinating. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Shanghai. We had the best time on our tour with Jim. We loved how all the restaurants we visited were local places, and so many of them were hole-in-the-wall places that we’d never be able to find on our own! Jim was so kind and knowledgeable and had so much to share. We loved how the tour also included some history and a taste of local daily life. Jim was generous with his time and expertise, and we had an amazing morning with him. We’d recommend this tour for sure.

I did a lot of research and was torn between two tours, but decided to go with this one because it seemed more focused on the food..brilliant decision because this tour was the highlight of my time in Shanghai! Jim was such a great guide - so patient, friendly, funny and knowledgeable. This tour is a must for any Shanghai visitor wanting to explore local food with an expert introduction by a local guide. Jim was excellent in explaining the origin of different foods, the history of the city and some buildings along the way. He introduced our small group to a varied selection of dumplings, noodles, fruit and skewers (including some Chinese brew), all of which were very tasty indeed. Jim also introduced us to team ceremony in a small, authentic shop which was a worthwhile addition to the tour. Overall, I can't rate this tour highly enough and will make sure to join Jim again next time I am in Shanghai.

Vena was very sweet. It was more than a good tour. We also walked through the gardens in between tasting. She was knowledgeable about the history and the dishes. We tried everything from dim sum to soup dumpling to Michelin star noodles and famous moon cake. She also shared personal insights on daily life of locals which was interesting. Jim was a fantastic tour guide and took us on a wonderful breakfast adventure around the French concession neighbourhood of Shanghai. We got to eat, drink, learn history - and have a laugh. I would definitely recommend this to any foodies, and Jim is very knowledgeable about the neighbourhood thank you for an incredible day!

This was the best thing I’ve done in Shanghai. Jim is super knowledgeable about the local cuisine, Chinese history and culture. And so friendly and polite. Fantastic. Don’t eat before you go! Highly recommended.

I have been on other foodtours in Shanghai during my previous visits. I can honestly say this is the best one. Jim is a local and gives you a local perspective not just on food but on the city itself. I learnt so much about food, history, beautful buildings and life in Shanghai. We had lots of food stops, everything from noodles, rice rolls, barbecue, dumplings of several types, micro brewery beer to a lovely tea session. Jim was really great, his English is excellent and he got us extras such as local ice cream and he ordered taxis when the weather was not kind to us. He also gave us tips on where to find the best breakfast xiaolongbao and crispy pancakes and we did find them the next morning on our own (and yes, they were superb!). The joining intructions were easy to follow, just make sure you read the signs for the correct subway exit (all stations in Shanghai have lots of exits but they are all clearly numbered so its easy). Overall this was a great experience and I thoroughly recommend it for anyone interested in food and culture.

We absolutely loved this tour. Jim and Dean our guides were knowledgeable, friendly and spoke great english. Everything was well organised and ran like clockwork. It's great to be taken into places that you would never find as an independent tourist. The restaurants that we visited were all of a great standard. Loved it all and highly recommend.

This was the second food tour I did with Jim and it was just as good as the first. I did the breakfast tour and would definitely recommend. He managed to juggle my timing constraints with the other guests, ensuring we didn’t miss out on any of the food stops. Jim has a great depth of knowledge of Shanghai and was able to walk us through some of the more interesting stories, including those of the rise of the Communist Party. All in, a great breakfast option

I had a lovely afternoon with Vena. We visited many places, all of which I would never have found on my own. We tried all types of traditional Chinese food and I really enjoyed walking around the city. Highly recommend when in Shanghai. Come hungry - we ate so much that I didn't need dinner that evening!

The food tour was great - my guide showed me a lot of local spots that I would never have discovered or even tried otherwise. He was also very kind and patient with me when I had lots of questions about tea ceremonies and translated all my questions and added details. Can only recommend!

Went on this trip with my brother and it was fantastic! Jim showed us some authentic hidden gems around Shanghai that we would never have known about or found otherwise. It was so good to have an informative guide who made sure to share his love of local cuisine and history. Great food, great beer, great sights, great guide! We went onto this food tour thinking it was just a simple foodie walk but we walked away with knowledge of occupied China, history of buildings, and even the current sentiment of people in Shanghai. Jim is not only a knowledgable guide, he's sharp as a tack and adjusts your tour based on how you're responding to certain elements. His passion for Shanghainese neighbourhoods and what they on offer shines through this tour, ever hopeful that the over gentrification of Shanghai does not push the mom and pop shops to the suburbs. Last and certainly not least the food introduced was the cleanest most refreshing tasting I've had in China. None of the food had an underlying stench of being days old or not being cleaned properly. I've personally bookmarked all the spots he's shown us on my maps so that I may always return to them should I choose. Highly recommend this tour and this guide. Best I've experienced in a long time.
