    An amazing experience!
I highly recommend this incredible tour! I loved hearing perspectives from Jim, a local Shanghainese person, while trying some amazing food at places I wouldn't have known to try.

    Fantastic food tour in Shanghai
Fantastic food tour in Shanghai. Included 5 different places in the French Concession, all very good. Hard to say which was the best! Jim was excellent and explained everything in detail. I had excellent food and learned a lot!

Amazing treats and tea in Shanghai
We had an amazing time on our tour! Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took us all over, tasting delicious snacks along the way and educating us about the food, culture and history of Shanghai. We tried many desserts; fig tart, savory moon cake, Jewish cookies, cinnamon rolls, smoothies and more. We sampled a variety of wonderful fresh fruits from a neighborhood fruit vendor, including fresh squeezed pomegranate juice. And we sat for a lovely tea session at a local tea shop. We tried a wide variety of Chinese teas. We’ve always wanted to enjoy the tea at one of these iconic neighborhood tea shops! Overall, we had a wonderful time. We had a great chat and learned a lot about the city. And we tried a wide variety of home town favorites that we might have missed otherwise. Our guide also gave us great recommendations on what to check out during our stay in Shanghai. Definitely recommend!

    Second time and was excellent!
Enjoyed the night tour so much that I booked the breakfast tour immediately. Because, let's be honest, you can't visit Shanghai without fully sampling all the local culinary delights that are on offer and there are plenty. Also because I have a friend who really recommended I do this particular tour. This time I had Jim show me around and led me to a variety of hidden cafes and street food stalls. I got to try lots of delicious dishes that I would not have been able to access myself. I also had a specific request to try out sheng jian bao and he was able to accommodate this during the tour. I can't thank Jim enough for taking the time to show me around and sharing his knowledge with me. If you are going to book a food tour - let it be this one as you certainly won't get an authentic experience as this elsewhere.

MUST DO when visting Shanghai! Best Food Tour!!
100% RECOMMENDED... First off, normally I do not like food tours. I find them cheesy, often lacking information, and, even more lacking in actual food. BUT THIS TOUR was PERFECT! I met Jim (plan your location early as it can be confusing for some) and we were off to wander around the French Concession neighborhood. Since he only does small groups, it was great to chat with him (for me I was lucky to be the only one!). He explained so many things about the food, why people seek it out and the challenges and opportunities within Shanghai regarding the cuisine. I was stuffed by time we were done, thank goodness there was a good amount of walking between a few of the stops. I also learned about the neighborhoods and communities we were walking through. Some of it was already covered on a prior walking tour - so I could have almost done this tour alone and learn so much about "Local Shanghai". I 100% recommend this tour with Jim - or even the night tour. It's definitely more "brunch" than breakfast but the food was amazing! ((And for all you picky eaters out there - there was nothing really "adventerous" about the food, just good local Shanghai cuisine.)) ((For those adventerous eaters, perhaps ask Jim in advance and maybe he would find a thing or two!))

An absolute must when you visit Shanghai. Amazing.
An absolute must when you visit Shanghai. Given it’s the biggest city in the world it can feel overwhelming. Given a lot of people don’t speak English finding an authentic experience can be a challenge. Shanghai Foodie takes of that for you. We were told to book a food tour by a relative who’s been before and so glad we did. Not only did we eat amazing food but we got a tour of the good parts of the city and learned a lot about Shanghai culture. Jay was an amazing host. Took care of us all evening. The tour made our trip to Shanghai. Thank you!

    A Must Do
A great tour and a great insight into a little piece the Chinese culture. I think food tours are a great way to sample some interesting food and to also learn about the area and city from a very knowledgeable guide. I ate some great food, learned about the area and culture and had a great time.

Great way to explore Shanghai with local knowledge
We really enjoyed the food tour. Jim was wonderful and not only introduced us to great food, but also gave us a historical tour of Shanghai. It was great to be able to ask him questions about Chinese culture and customs. We loved the different meals, so much so that we went back to several of the restaurants the next day! And visited a bar that Jim recommended us too. A fantastic way to experience local cuisine and explore the city, in a friendly group setting.

    Great local food experience
Jade was incredible! She was very knowledgeable and kind to accommodate our requests. If you’re looking for an authentic local gastronomic experience than look no further - we were taken to some of the best local restaurants in the area, and tried some amazing food! We had such a great night, I wish we had done this tour sooner in our trip. Thanks Jade and looking forward to seeing you again in the future!

    Wonderful experience
We had the best time on our tour with Jim. We loved how all the restaurants we visited were local places, and so many of them were hole-in-the-wall places that we’d never be able to find on our own! Jim was so kind and knowledgeable and had so much to share. We loved how the tour also included some history and a taste of local daily life. Jim was generous with his time and expertise, and we had an amazing morning with him. We’d recommend this tour for sure.

    Fun night out
Very nice tour with a young student. I learned a lot a bout culture, food and places to go in the city. Very easy going. Felt more like hanging out with a friend and share different food. Exactly what I was hoping for.

    Shanghai Late Night Food Tour
If you are new to Shanghai and wanting to try some local food, this is a great tour! Ding was very knowledgeable about the local food and culture and answered all of my (many) questions. It was a fun way to spend an evening and also get to see different parts of the city as well. Would definitely recommend!

    Excellent Local Food Tour ♥️
I’m glad I was able to get this last minute booking. It was excellent and well worth it. Our guide Jim is warm, friendly and knowledgeable. We had different kinds of dumplings. Now I have my new favorite dumplings and they are the Shanghai dumplings. I think we ate 7-8 types of local dishes and we also tried this pretty good craft beer (Flipping Mango Hazy IPA). Thank you for offering this excellent tour. I highly recommend it!

Great Food and Fun for an Evening
The first of my two food tours with Jim and this one had a second guide in Jade, who was also great fun. They made me feel very welcome as the only solo traveller with a group of colleagues and ensured I was able to get back to my hotel from our destination without issue. The food on this particular tour was great and eye-opening in equal measure, and a few beers, IPAs and spirits later, it was an evening well spent

We thoroughly enjoyed our food tour in Shanghai. Our guide, Jim, felt more like a friend than a guide. We had great conversation throughout the night and he was very knowledgeable on food, Shanghai and all things we were curious about! He brought us to come places that we would have never found ourselves. The food at each stop was incredible. We did the night time tour and we even stopped off for some craft beer in the French concession.

This was the most enjoyable food tour we have ever done and we would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Shanghai!

Apart from the tour being amazing, Jim also helped us to find everything we needed in Shanghai and gave us recommendations.

Fantastic tour with Jim! In addition to trying lots of amazing, authentic food, wonderful coffee and tea with local vendors and independent owners - I learnt more about Shanghai. One of my favourite parts of the tour was seeing how the older generation keep fit and healthy with dancing, fitness and games in one of the local parks. I also very much enjoyed taking tea. I appreciated the independent food and coffee places we went to, making a note so that I can go visit them again - and Jim even tailored my tour for me to try different food I expressed interest in. Jim is very knowledgeable and passionate about his city - I absolutely recommend taking one of his tours.

I was on a short business trip to Shanghai and I had a half day free time before I leave. I booked probably 3 hours before the guided tour and this was the perfect choice. Even though I was the only participant in the tour, Jim was passionate in sharing the hidden gems of the city. The best part was Jim giving me a chance to try a couple of different baijiu at the last stop since I am a big fan of baijiu! I would highly recommend anyone to experience the city with Jim!

This was a great way of experiencing Shanghai food with a knowledgeable local guide. Jim was extremely friendly and professional, offering not only a commentary on the food that we ate but also the history of the city.

I opted for the 1pm tour and it was a great way of spending an afternoon while missing the lunchtime rush. I will certainly book in for an evening tour next time I am in Shanghai.

From the moment we met Jim he was professional, warm, and attentive. As a Shanghai local his knowledge of the city, it's history and development was insightful. The food was fabulous and we wouldn't have found these experiences on our own - even as pretty confident travellers. Jim went the extra mile when one venue had to be changed last minute. He made sure we didn't miss out and added in some extra places to visit.

Whether you are a Shanghai first-timer or have visited before, this tour is excellent and well worthwhile if you want to gain a deeper appreciation for the city and it's food culture. Jim, we will recommend your tour to any friends who visit Shanghai.

My experience with the Food Tour in Shanghai was absolutely extraordinary, especially thanks to our fantastic guide, Luoding. His deep knowledge and passion for local cuisine made this tour an unforgettable experience. The highlight was undoubtedly the tea ceremony, which was not only educational but incredibly soothing. Another standout was the delicious noodles in a hidden, unassuming restaurant, truly a hidden gem. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to experience the authentic culinary culture of Shanghai.

Meet up with guide on time, local chinese guy, very friendly and spoke good english. Visited some 5-6 small restaurants in different styles and one bar, all in walking distance from meeting point. I was the only guest on this food tour, guide talked a lot about chineese food culture and the history of the local restaurants and the local neighbourhood.

This was a fantastic tour, walking around parts of Shanghai, Jim gave casual information about the history and culture, mixed with interesting insights into what people around us were discussing. We ate in about 5 really great little places that you would never be able to use if not a native speaker - and all the food we had was amazing!!!

If you love food and want to experience some genuine little local gems, I highly recommend this tour!

Thanks.😀

This tour is a must for any Shanghai visitor wanting to explore local food with an expert introduction by a local guide. Jim was excellent in explaining the origin of different foods, the history of the city and some buildings along the way. He introduced our small group to a varied selection of dumplings, noodles, fruit and skewers (including some Chinese brew), all of which were very tasty indeed. Jim also introduced us to team ceremony in a small, authentic shop which was a worthwhile addition to the tour. Overall, I can't rate this tour highly enough and will make sure to join Jim again next time I am in Shanghai.
