Tour of Jewish Shanghai led by a Jewish History Expert
From US$73.00
Overview
See a side of Shanghai you won’t find in the guidebooks on this expert-led tour of the city’s Jewish history. Learn how Jewish businessmen helped shaped the city, and explore the Jewish Ghetto where refugees lived during World War II. The tour begins and ends at a central location on the Bund riverfront, which means you'll have a chance to dramatic city views.
What to Expect
The Peace Hotel on the Bund is your starting point for your tour of Jewish Shanghai. Learn how Sir Victor Sassoon shaped the face of old Shanghai with this and other buildings, and discover the different waves of Jewish immigration at the turn of the last century.
Next, hop in the minivan and travel to the Jewish Ghetto in Hongkou. See the Shanghai Jewish Refugee Museum, housed in a converted synagogue, and a monument in Huoshan Park. Wander the district’s lanes and visit a home where Jewish refugees once lived.
Hear fascinating stories from your guide, an expert on Shanghai's Jewish history, and return to the Peace Hotel with a new understanding of a vanished world.

Fascinating Tour

Although the tour focuses on Jewish history, it's also more broadly a history of the city. Well worth the time and money.

It was about 4 hours when I went. Started at 9:30am at the Peace Hotel and ended by 1:30pm. It would probably be closer to 4.5 hours though if you include the time it takes to go back via bus (bus is included) to the Peace... More
