Eat Like a Local: Kuala Lumpur Hawker Center and Street Food Tour by Night

Overview

Kuala Lumpur is one of Asia’s street food capitals—yet, with such diversity from district to district, it’s hard to know what to eat and where. Feast like a local on this Kuala Lumpur food tour that takes you to street vendors, hidden eateries, and hawker courts in air-conditioned comfort with a group of no more than four.

What to Expect

Greet your guide and small group at Taman Paramount LRT station in Petaling Jaya, and hop aboard your comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle to travel to a neighborhood of your guide’s choosing.

That might be Bangsar, known for its “mamak” stalls and banana-leaf restaurants, but also home to Malay warungs and mixed eateries. It could be Brickfields, with its South Indian restaurants and Chinese “kopitiam” coffee shops. Or it could be a hawker center in Petaling Jaya.

Your guide will introduce you to local favorites. Try dishes like “nasi lemak” (coconut rice with chili paste, anchovies, peanuts, and more), Chinese noodles, Indian breads with curry, and rice and palm sugar desserts. At the end of the night, return to Taman Paramount LRT stuffed full of Kuala Lumpur’s finest street food.
