About
The unlabeled tower temples of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of My Son are as hard to interpret as they’re striking to see—one reason it pays to go with a guide. Another, of course, is to take the hassle (and the haggle!) out of transportation. History fans will love this intimate and informative tour of Vietnam’s ancient capital: It's limited to just eight people.

    My Son Sanctuary
Stop: 90 minutes - Admission included
Located in the heart of a beautiful valley and surrounded by high mountains ranges, My Son is one of the most stunning sights to see in Central Vietnam and only around 80 kilometers from Da Nang city. Whilst excavating My Son, letters found revealed that this complex has been used for offerings and worship of the Hindu god since the 4th century. In 1999, UNESCO declared My Son a Unesco World Heritage Site. The My Son Sanctuary is a remarkable architectural ensemble that developed over a period of ten centuries. It presents a vivid picture of spiritual and political life in an important phase of the history of South-East Asia. Originally built with wood, the temples in My Son were completely destroyed by fire in the 6th century and restored in the 7th century by Sambhuvarman who rebuilt the temples with locally made bricks. Up to the 13th century, more than 70 similar temples were built, establishing My Son as a sanctuary of Hinduism in the Champa Kingdom.

This is a beautiful place; with similarities to Ankor Wat and Sukkothai. But get there on your own with a driver or cab and have them wait for you for the day. The tour with guide is too restrictive. You spend much of the time (more than advertised) waiting in town to fill up the bus with various tourists from subcontractors.
Then the time is limited due to the requirements to meet up with a boat company for a partial river tour on the way back to Hoi An. We just stayed on the bus. Can't see that the time on the boat would have been a better experience.

River was our guide for this half day tour. She and the driver were on time picking us up. She gave an not only an interesting account of the ruins but also shared with us information about life as a local there. She ended the tour by recommending us the her favourite Bahn Mi place and dropping off all us there for lunch. Thanks to her, we all enjoyed the yummylicious lunch.

Hoi An Express was very progressional and put together an enjoyable tour of My Sons. They provided a comfortable, air conditioned transport vehicle. Our guide Eric provided insightful information and also allowed for plenty of free time to walk and take photos and ask questions. My Sons is about an hour drive outside of Hoi An and takes about two hours to walk around and see it all. Definitely worth a visit! I recommend the morning; we got picked up at 7:30 am.

It has been on the top of our wush list during many visits to Vietnam that is now realised. An outstanding and historically wonderful place but to be there as the first rays of sun come ever the top is just so good. A bus picked us up from our accommodation at 5am and we travelled for an hour or so to the entrance in the bush setting. Then we travelled to the actual site by electric buggy. Really good for people with limited walking ability. We were able to get GREAT photos when it was so quiet and only our group there with the guide. Huge structures that were built from hand made bricks with NO mortar, only basically like a natural glue, plus hand cut stone blocks, columns joined only by an early tounge and groove method. Takes your breath away. Most of which would be standing today if it had not been bombed during the war. Restoration is slowly happening with help from countries across the world, using the original techniques. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE.

We visited My Son my taking a cab from our hotel in HoiAn. When we arrived rather than walk the 2 Kilometres from the gate we took the mobile cart which was highly appreciated on a somewhat hot day. We walked into a cultural show. Try not miss it. Lovely dancing and singing showcassing local culture. The ruins and the forest setting is a lovely visit. We went to My Son without any information and did not get a guide. I reckon if you going consider taking a guide to get the breakdown of the Temples and get to know the history. Watch out for the Chinese tourists. They take selfie taking to a new level and take up lots of time and make seeing sites uncomfortable with their obsession to get the next picture in. Its a good outing and waling in the forest setting is relaxing. Plan to spend at least two hours here if not longer

From when we left our hotel to when we got to our destination Joe was so informative of the My Son Sanctuary history.
On our way to the temple Joe gave us a history lesson on Vietnam and its culture and how it grew to what it is today.
The Sanctuary itself is just mind blowing in terms of history when you realise these relics date back to the 3rd century.
Something you need to see.

We were really looking forward to seeing these ruins and they didn't disappoint, but our tour guide wasn't the most helpful. While other groups guides stayed with their tours and explained what they were seeing, ours left us to our own devices. With the help of the Lonely Planet guidebook, the signs around the park, and good old-fashioned evesdropping, we were able to ensure we got the most out of our experience. We also asked a lot of questions and the guide was able to answer them, although the information was at times different from what we were reading, so we took it all with a grain of salt.

Going early was key to missing the crowds and beating the heat (as much as one can) and we were thankful we went early.

Very enlightening and interesting tour. Driver was excellent. Nyugen (Eric) the tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. We took the afternoon half-day option and it all worked out very well.
