Through this walk you will experience the architecture, philosophy, history and culture of the most ancient living city "Varanasi". We will be walking along the old quarters of the city which lies in the north. We will go to some hidden but extraordinarily beautiful places of worship and try to understand what role does spirituality and mythology plays in Hinduism. We will visit a colorful flower market, which will certainly stimulate your olfactory senses.  We will have yummy, creamy fruit lassi from one of the best Lassi joint in the city.  We will walk through the narrow by-lanes, walking past cows and bulls and often get photographed with them as well. We will talk to many interesting locals and visit the house of a very prominent writer. We will also walk along the riverside to reach to the cremation ghat and understand the concepts about Life, death, reincarnation and salvation, about acceptability of Death.

Though our review of the Roobaroo Varanasi walks is four months late, the colors and smells of Varanasi are still fresh in our memories. We were a family of five, including two people over seventy and a teenager. We took all four of Roobaroo's tours. We flew into Varanasi the day after three days of heavy downpour. Anupam had sent us pics of the Ganga in spate and the waterlogged streets of the city. He was quick to reschedule our evening walking tour to commence from the next day.
We went on the South Varanasi tour with Mudita, a full of life, spunky true blue Varanasian who started our tour with the Ganga Aarti before dawn. She showed us many hidden gems of the city which we would have otherwise completely missed. The kachori and jalebi breakfast at an unassuming roadside shop was to die for. She went the extra mile to take us into a saree weaver's home and cajoled him into getting out some exquisite hand woven Banarasi sarees which we ended up buying.
That evening we went on the South Varanasi tour with Sourabh. Soft spoken, cultured and learned, he started the tour in a Kali temple hidden in the midst of bustling traffic with a history of the temples of Varanasi. We got a glimpse into an ornate haveli and had the best lassi we've had in our lives.
The next morning, Anupam accompanied us to Sarnath. Through his anecdotes of his and his parents' lives, he gave us an insight into living in this historical city. We also got to see Anupam the wildlife photography enthusiast and his tiger pics. Anupam, we'll be pinging you when we go to see Noor the tigress!
That evening, we went on a food tour with Sourabh. We got a mouthwatering intro into Varanasi's famed chaat and sweet scene. We came back with our bellies and our hearts full.
Thanks to the Roobaroo team for bringing Varanasi alive for us and leaving us wanting for more!

We combined the North Walk with Food Walk for a total of five hours, starting around 2.30 pm in December 2019. We were guided by the effervescent Mudita, whose enthusiasm and charm was irresistible. A local Banarasi, her love for the city could be seen in her knowledge about its history, culture and stories. We saw many hidden and off beat sights, which would have been impossible to find by ourselves, including the house belonging to Bharatendu Harishchandra. She deftly led us through the narrow lanes to amazing food spots, which were all steeped in history. The food portions were very generous and we covered a great variety from sweet to savoury to the thandai. Overall, the best possible way to experience the city in a jiffy. Definitely recommend this experience to all.

Mudita, our guide, was awesome!! Real local who knew terrain, history, insights, like only a person who grew up in Varanasi would. Tour was 2-3 hours. Foreigners need someone like this who can provide passion for their city and its people. Don’t miss this tour!!

Why do we even need a walking tour? Its easy to just walk and explore city on our own thanks to google. But we then often just see the regular places, click pics and be done.
A walking tour, thanks to this team of super story tellers, brought the whole city alive. It helped us absorb the city and observe the contrast- from the busy lanes to a quiet corner in just few steps. Plus we got a chance to visit some beautiful hidden gems that we wouldn’t have managed on our own.
The team is very helpful & patient. What stood out clearly was the quick response and meticulous planning. Saurabh was our guide on the north walk, south walk and evening boat ride. It was an amazing experience – interactive and with some history and mythology; And loads of interesting stories that keep you hooked. Thank you for making this trip a memorable one.
I for one, will be definitely be taking the food tour next time I am in Varanasi!

It was the best experience ever to some good hidden treasures of north varanasi. Saurabh conducted the walking tour very nicely. He was an amazing storyteller who knew history and insights of a place. The treasures tucked in the small lanes of Varanasi couldn't have been experienced in a better manner than the way saurabh helped us. I highly recommend Roobaroo Walks

We were a group of 7 friends and approached Roobaroo for a custom tour. They suggested a heritage+food walk, which turned out to be the highlight of our Varanasi trip! Our guide Mudita was knowledgeable and great company as she herded us along exploring the nooks and corners of Benaras. Would highly recommend Roobaroo - totally worth the experience!

We were a bevy of nine loud women who were meeting up after almost 30years and decided to choose Varanasi to do so. A friend recommended Roobaroo and we are so glad we opted for them. We undertook the North Walk and combined it with a food walk. We saw some real hidden gems which we perhaps would never have chanced upon had we tried to see Benares all by ourselves. We gorged on the lip smacking local delicacies while on the walk. Our guide Saurabh is a storehouse of information. We got fascinating insights to history, mythology and folklore and the best part he was so witty and I must add above all patient! It is not easy handling an all women group that was running late and creating quite a cacophony!. Saurabh also helped us with shops to buy papad and pickles and they are out of this world. The sites that we visited were beautiful...i will not divulge what all we saw...that should remain a mystery but if ever one wants to visit Varanasi please do experience atleast one walk with Roobaroo. Totally totally worth it!

We were a group of 12 with family and friends and did 3 activities with Roobaroo.

I have run out of adjectives to describe our experience - Anupam and Saurabh were excellent - Thank you guys for letting us experience the EMOTION " Benaras" through your EYES, HEARTS & EARS.

As Human Beings, we all love to listen to stories... You guys have taken story telling to another level altogether in the bargain endearing yourselves to one all be it young or old - in other words you guys managed the increase the level of OXYTOCIN - a Hormone that promotes the feeling of LOVE, BONDING & WELL BEING

We have imbibed a big SLICE of Benaras and knowing well that there is lots more to come, WE are eagerly looking forward to our next visit for MORE...

I had the pleasure of spending a few days with Anupam of Roobaroo Walking Tours. He tailor made some amazing day tours and gave me extensive hands on training in photography. His knowledge of photography is impressive and his depth of knowledge of Varanasi is amazing. He is such a pleasure to hang out with. I already am planning a much longer return trip to spend more time with him. I highly recommend Roobaroo Walking Tours, and if you are lucky you can book time with Anupam!

2016 I did this tour with my husband and 2 friends (1 was taken ill and had to return to base - all taken care of by our guide, swiftly and discretely). This year 2 more friends joined us and we had a cracking tour complete with 'underground toast' ( the most sublime toast experience I've ever had with hot butter pouring from the middle), back streets galore, flower market and much, much more. Genuinely a great experience by a passionate guide who knew his stuff big time. Thanks again Roobaroo!
