Alex was an amazing tour guide. There’s some amazing artwork along the tour with lots of rich history behind every piece of graffiti you see. I’m glad I took this your. I learned a lot. This tour will take you the highest point of the homes along the mountains. I recommend the 430pm tour so you can see how beautiful the lights span across the city

Very good tour. Our tour guide Janeth was excellent She gave us the background/ history of la comuna 13. I did the tour in Spanish since I was with family . She took us up to la comuna (which is a little of a workout, but only until you reach the electric stairs) unfortunately my aunt didn’t make it up to the electric stairs . But she was able to stay in the lower part at a cafe while we finished the tour.

We also visited her family business where we had small apps (empanaditas and tostones with hogao, delicious!) you can also purchase micheladas . I recommend the coffee michelada it was soooo good ! After we went farther up to la comuna where you see much more beautiful graffiti and lots of vendors . The place is filled with cool bars and shops . The view up there is breathtaking!!!!

Despite all the people (bc it was very packed, I also went on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of December Im sure that’s high season) and la comuna13 having fame for being insecure I never felt unsafe. Of course you should always be aware of your belongings and never keep your guard down (no matter where your traveling too) . I took my phone out , took pictures with out a problem . Remember they basically live off tourism . So the last thing they want is for us to feel uncomfortable.

At the end of the tour you’re free to continue enjoying la comuna 13 on your own . Janeth as nice enough to explain to me how to get to el metrocable (another must if your Medellin) there’s a small green city bus that passes right in front of the store where you started the tour (it’s 1,500 pesos.) That bus takes you to the metro station of San Javier and there you can catch the metrocable (3,000 pesos)

Overall the tour is great if it’s your first time visiting . Your tour guide will explain the history of la comuna 13 and will show you how to get around . I definitely will be back to venture out on my own

Oh ! Almost forgot about the delicious mango paleta we got at the end:) don’t skip out on it

I also want to thank Janeth for having so much patience with my party . My aunts aren’t an easy bunch to please lol

This tour was awesome we had Alex and he was the best guide as he is from the area and well known and liked by the locals. Literally people of all ages were speaking, handshaking, high fiving and hugging him as we went along the tour it was like he was a local celebrity! He was very knowledgable and the part that I appreciated the most was that he was open an honest about Communa's history: the good, the bad, and the ugly. He did not sugar coat the past but provided us with the insight to appreciate the thriving culture and resilience of the community today. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Medellin as it will make you feel more connected vs. just a tourist. As far as Visit Medellin Tours, please give Alex a raise or promotion he deserves it!

I enjoyed this opportunity to visit and learn about Comuna 13. Our guide Edwin was engaging, kind, and knowledgeable. He and his brother were very attentive to the group, making sure everyone was present at each step of the tour on a busy day. One of my favorite things was watching an awesome dance performance group with front-row viewing, as well as learning about the history of the area. There were also little shopping opportunities throughout the trip; I recommend bringing some cash to tip performers and buy some art or souvenirs. I would recommend this tour. I might even do it again since it was a lot to take in at one time! :)

We had a fun, educational and active afternoon in Comuna 13 with our guide, Jeaneth. She shared all the history of the Comuna with our teenagers who were eager to learn about it. She also shared her personal experience being a longtime resident of the neighborhood which added a very special and authentic touch to our tour. Recommend taking comfortable walking shoes and pesos in small denominations for contributions to all the artists who perform for tourists along the way. There was excellent break dancing, improvised freestyling “trova”, art, urban music, stops to eat freshly made empanadas and drink micheladas. We even had tshirts customized on the spot. It started pouring during our tour but that didnt dampen our spirits - we bought ponchos and kept going. Highly recommend this tour!

After reading so many great reviews this tour even surpassed expectations. Kevin is a bright, passionate and super helpful tour guide. Being from the area he really knows his stuff And just as importantly knows how to share information as well as lead the three hour tour-helpful and sensitive to everybody.

Another surprise was how substantial and tasty the food treats were. Again I wasn’t expecting much what we received was excellent and ample- having food on a three hour tour really makes a lot of sense. and the fact that it’s included in the very reasonable fee, makes it even better!
Add all of the above says nothing about how interesting this neighbourhood is. To learn its story is moving and sad. But what’s happened there, and how it’s transformed is totally inspiring. certainly a highlight of our stay in Medellin.

This was an amazing experience. My tour guide Jeaneth shared her story and what is was like in the past and how they are trying to shine a new light on the community. We had various points where we stopped and took pictures. She also showed us her Michelada spot which is to the right when you come off the escalators. They were sooo delicious. On the tour we were able to see many different forms of art such as graffiti, free styling, and dancing. If you’re unsure of whether to book this tour I recommend you do. It’s so worth it and getting there is easy through the metro. I went as a solo traveler and I was able to meet other people doing the same.
If you do get there early to the meet up spot by metro I recommend you take the cable car ride up to the last spot and take some pictures. The view is lovely. I think the round trip for the cable car ride was like 40 mins. And you can make it back in time for your tour.

Esteban was a phenomenal tour guide for a phenomenal tour!! very personal touch as he even brought us to his grandmothers place in the community. The history of the Comuna 13 neighborhood was very eloquently explained by him, it honestly had me in tears towards the end understanding how far they've come from a dangerous neighborhood to one that's thriving due to tourism. I am glad to have contributed. I completely recommend this tour to give you a good look at inner city history of Medellin, you guys will absolutely love it.

The tour was AMAZING. The tour guide really made the experience great by giving personal insight since she lives there and give us private viewing of the city. The tour did feel long given the walking and the breaks but I never felt tired. I felt safe, I learned, and I enjoyed the shows offered throughout the experience.

CAUTION: The food provided was small so I urge folks to eat prior to the tour in case the food is not enough. We were offered one empanada and a free snack so those with a big appetite be weary.
