Day 1: Kiev-Chernobyl (L, D)
Depart Kiev railway station and journey to Chernobyl by climate-controlled minivan. Receive handouts, maps, and a respirator; and watch a documentary on the 1986 accident at the Chernobyl nuclear plant and its aftermath.
Enter the exclusion zone via the Dytyatky checkpoint and tour Chernobyl town before check-in at your basic-but-clean 2-star hotel. After lunch here, explore the ‘ghost’ town of Pripyat to view must-sees such as the Red Forest, school, swimming pool, and amusement park—all eerily silent and decaying.
Shop for souvenirs and refreshments (own expense) at a store in Chernobyl, and finish with a hotel dinner and optional bar meet-up.

Day 2: Chernobyl – Kiev (B, L)
After breakfast and check-out, see the secret Soviet-era military Duga radar system, and explore more of Pripyat, including its derelict fire station and kindergarten among other sites.
View the reactor 4 from a distance, feed the giant catfish in the cooling pond, and visit nearby Parishev. Meet some villagers who have returned to live in this haunted place, and after lunch and checking out some of Chernobyl’s relics, including its abandoned vehicles, return to Kiev.
Your tour then ends at the original start point.
Please note: your tour is designed for maximum safety, with contaminated areas avoided throughout. During your two days, you will absorb approximately 4-6 millisieverts of gamma radiation (about the same as on a 5- to 8-hour flight). You are free to use a Geiger-Muller counter to measure radiation levels if you wish.
