What to expect
Make your way to Fort Canning in Singapore’s Central Area, and present this voucher for admission to The Battlebox, an emergency command center that was heavily used during the Second World War. Learn the story behind the surrender of Singapore, when Lieutenant-General Arthur Percival handed the British colony to the Japanese, the largest British surrender in history. Visit the museum with a Singapore History Consultant, who explains the underlying causes for the surrender, and the dark period of Singapore history that followed the defeat. Begin at ground level, then go deeper into the earth as you follow a series of fortified rooms below the surface—the entire complex comprises 26 rooms. See dioramas of wax figures that reimagine the Battlebox during wartime, take in the remains of Japanese Morse code scratched into the walls, and experience a piece of WWII military history first hand.

Worth visiting, nothing like the other museums
Jan 2021
My family and I had a wonderful time visiting the Battlebox today. As Singaporeans, we learnt so much about the history of Singapore and it was very interesting to listen to the very kind and knowledgeable Helena who showed us around, sharing information and stories. It was also nice to see old artefacts, building structures and lovely watching all the old films. This 2.5hrs tour was nothing like the other museums and highly recommended for all to visit.

Informative guided tour of the actual bunker and the events about the battle of Singapore
Dec 2020
The 30 minutes guided tour of the underground bunker is informative and also debunked / clarified some myths about some issues regarding the Battle of Singapore such as "Were the big coastal guns located in the south of the island turned around to fire at the japanese positions in the north"?

The tour gave a rather detailed background story to how the war came to Singapore and the events leading to the eventual surrender of Singapore.

After the guided tour, you are free to explore the bunker yourself. There are also some short videos of the actual scenes during the war.

The entire bunker is air conditioned as well.

Do note that no photos / videos are allowed to be taken in the bunker.

A Good History Lesson
Nov 2020
I was very impressed with the level of information found in the Battlebox. Information is on the walls and by video and they map sends you through the bunker in the correct chronological route.

Take your time and do this properly and you will find it very informative, i used nearly 2 hours in here.

The staff were very knowledgeable and extremely friendly.

We came to take a tour as we have family serving in this area all those years ago, one of which was actually posted in Singapore in this very command centre. This was fascinating for us to follow in his footsteps....

We booked it online but later told later on emails the tour is not available... if you can not provide it, take it offline, switch it off or block it. And still you send me text reminders and questionnaire... so annoying.

Take a 'cool' walk though Hisotry

Battlebox is an excellent experience for anyone with an interest in WW2 Asian/Pacific theatre. Full of atmostphere and authentic feel. Tour is well laid out and informative. Am sure you will be happy if you get Shaun as your guide, a great communicator, full of knowledge, enthusiam and an easy and organised manner oh and great with lively kids too.

And if you are lucky enough at the end of your visit you too may win a small momento of your tour.

Fascinating Tour!
Dec 2019
Amazing! Couldn't be happier with the tour as it was fascinating. Rodney answered all questions we had and the ones he didn't have an answer for he tried to get an answer for. I had an email with the answer to my question within the hour.
Book the tour early as it sells out quickly

Do Visit if You Have An Interest In the 20th Century History of Singapore
Mar 2020
This is a great place to visit if you want to understand more of the surrender of Singapore to the Japanese in 1942 during World War II. Our guide was extremely good and because the groups are small, you get a chance to ask any supplementary questions quite easily. The tour of the headquarters of the Allied Forces in Singapore during the war itself takes you around the 27 rooms, some of which have got a recreation of events at the time with life like figures, some of which are empty, and some of which are places where you can sit and watch newsreels that add to your understanding. Highly recommended. We were here doing the COVID-19 outbreak and numbers of visitors to Singapore were much smaller than usual so we were able to book by walking into the ticket office and were included in a tour leaving in an hour. In normal times, I would think it would probably be best to book in advance since the tours are popular, for small groups and timings are well spaced out
