About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Docsherri0 contributionsAn amazing personalized tour!We had a personalized tour to Bug Buddha, the monastery, and Lai O island with Martin as our guide. We had a wonderful experience! Martin was kind, patient, extremely knowledgeable, and took amazing pictures for us! He met us at our hotel and brought us back at the end of the day. We never felt rushed and we all had such a great time! He even gave us detailed instructions to visit the escalator and Victoria’s Peak for the next day. We highly recommend booking with this company and you will be extremely happy with Martin as your guide!! We did have some communication issues in getting the invoice for the tour; you do need to be patient in getting responses from the company. However, we were very glad we booked with them!! Thank you, Martin, for everything!! 💕🇺🇸Written 6 December 2024
- Richard D0 contributionsKowloon City TourHi Virginia, just wanted to pass along my thanks for the food and local history tour with Martin yesterday . Everything went very well and Martin is very knowledgeable about the Kowloon City area and shared his personal story which I found fascinating. The tour was exceptional and the dai pai dong at the end was a great finish to the waking tour. Keep posting those videos. Thanks, RickWritten 16 September 2024
- Daydream584428690140 contributionsThe best food tour in Hong KongThe day started with our guide (Martin) meeting my husband and I at our hotel and taking us to traditional Dim Sum. We sat at a table with locals and learned how to wash our plates and pour tea, much the the amusement of everyone on the table (all in good humour), when we left we were wished a happy holiday and the day just kept getting better. Martin took us to places we never would have found, we ventured down back alleys, side streets and underpasses, we learned a lot about the history and ate some amazing food. Our day ended at a Dai Pai Dong, we were able to sit down, relax and eat (again) while our guide gave us a list of places to try (including detailed instructions and maps of how to find them) the next day. We have both recently retired and this was our first trip overseas together for over 30 years, so we were a little nervous about travelling. Taking this tour was the best thing we did and made the rest of our stay even more enjoyable. I cannot recommend Humid with a Chance of Fishballs highly enough. Whether you have an idea as to what you want to do or are happy to leave it to the amazing team to plan your itinerary, you will not be disappointed. We will be back and will be booking another tour with Virginia and her team!Written 12 September 2024
- ny8880 contributionsCustom Hong Kong tour with Humid with a Chance of FishballsWhat an amazing time in Hong Kong!!! This was my wife's and my kids' first time in Hong Kong. I contacted Virginia many months before our trip to ensure we hit all the sights and foods that are must-dos in Hong Kong. Virginia created a custom itinerary that included a city tour, a food tour (taking into account my son's nuts allergy), and even a volunteer event to help the homeless. The benefits of a custom tour cannot be understated since we can adjust on the fly as needed based on feelings at the time and the sometimes rainy summer weather. Nathalie was our guide for the city tour and she was excellent in ensuring we experienced the variety of public transportation as we moved from site to site. By mid-afternoon, on the metro on our way to the Wong Tai Sin temple, she sensed the fatigue with my kids, and mid-ride, we were able to change plans and she took us to Goldfish Street instead to see the pet market. My kids perked up as they saw all the fish, puppies, kittens, rabbits, and even chinchillas. The following day and a half, we had Martin as our guide for the Lantau Island and Hong Kong food tours. I cannot say enough good things about Martin, he was not only knowledgeable but took us off the beaten path as well as ensuring that my son's nuts allergy would not be an issue. Our family has had some memorable private tours around the world but my kids both said that Martin is the best tour guide they've ever had. Martin consistently gave us information along the tour to understand the history and cultural significance of the locations and the food. At Lantau Island, my daughter was bitten by a large bug and no one seemed to know what to do. Martin was running around amidst a driving rainstorm talking to locals to identify it was a local variety of bee but not dangerous. It seemed everywhere we went, Martin had a contact that took care of us. There was no waiting for the Ngong Pin cable car as we passed everyone in line. I had mentioned to Martin that my son sometimes had issues with Fish Sauce but it was not consistent and he made sure he asked every vendor and restaurant about their usage of nuts, peanut oil, and fish sauce. I appreciated his attention to this detail. On the food tour, before we went to the famous Dai Pai Dong, he called ahead because I told him I wanted to have Mantis Shrimp. It turns out they had run out for the day so he quickly took us to a wet market to buy Mantis Shrimp and then had a restaurant cook that for us before our Dai Pai Dong visit. This restaurant was so surprised that we showed up with just two Mantis Shrimps and that's all we wanted them to cook but they did because they knew Martin and it was so delicious! The Dai Pai Dong was great and Martin ensured we got a picture taken with the chef even though the chef is non-stop cooking and very busy. Martin improvised and took us to a museum so my kids could see what it was liked to live in public housing, to a fashion wholesaler to shop for clothes, and Mong Kok where young people liked to hang out. There's probably a lot more that I've not mentioned that Martin did to make our tour the best ever. I highly recommend Humid with a chance of Fishballs if you want a personalized experience in Hong Kong, they are fantastic!!!Written 29 July 2024
- bethere20 contributionsThe best way to experience Hong Kong!We had a wonderful time with Virginia! Our family only had a quick afternoon in Hong Kong and wanted to make the most of it. Virginia was able to accommodate our schedule, hitting highlights both in Hong Kong and Kowloon, and giving us an experience as only a local can. She was especially kind to our 9 year old son and found plenty to keep him engaged and entertained. I wish we had a whole week to spend with her and see everything!Written 26 February 2024
- F00dSavvy0 contributionsOne of the best! Our tour with Virginia was fantastic! It was much more than just a food tour - a cultural experience and history lesson as well. Even though we have lived in HK for many years, we still discovered and learnt so much. Virgina is so knowledgeable and informative, and the food choices were on point! We went to some unique places where the food is still hand made in the traditional way, which is important in a world where so much of what we eat is mass produced. Highly recommend her tour for any visitor to HK, or even if you've been a local for many years. Simply one of the best food and cultural tours we've done in years.Written 6 January 2024
- 973marielr0 contributionsThe Best Food Tour I've Ever TakenI am a food traveler if there ever was one. I pick my destinations based on the food and spend months thinking about what and where to eat. So, I am usually hesitant to book food tours because I feel like I can do it better. But Virginia found amazing places and provided context that I could not have easily found on my own. She was super responsive, friendly, and amazing to eat with. I love that she picked places specific to our needs and that the itinerary was easy to follow. My partner and I are in our late 20s and thought she was super engaging and knowledgeable. If you are a foodie, book this tour! I am usually disappointed by food tours because we eat too much or the food spots aren't that impressive ...but Virginia picked amazing spots and took care to make sure we would have lots of room! She is a gem in plain sight and I feel so lucky to have toured with her. My partner and his family are from Hong Kong and they didn't even have recommendations as good as she did! Do make a private tour and enjoy.Written 15 December 2023

- 739tomw0 contributionsAmazing tailored tour for our familyVirginia gave my family (with two children 5 and 11) a wonderful customised full day tour of Hong Kong combining food and sightseeing. We did so many wonderful things with excellent and easy guidance from Virginia making it all super easy. The dim sum lunch, peak views and fortune telling at the temple were highlights. Highly recommended.Written 12 November 2023
- 366jianm0 contributions100% Chance of Fun!Eating our way around HK with Virginia was probably THE highlight of our trip. Food brings people together, and nowhere is that more apparent than in Virginia’s Food Tour. Not only do you get to eat at some of HK’s best (and mostly hidden, non-mainstream) food spots, but you also get to experience the hows and whys of HK’s food culture; a small glimpse of HK everyday life through food. It honestly didn’t feel like a tour at all. It felt more like a longtime friend enthusiastically showing you around her hometown, her favorite city. That’s the best kind.Written 27 October 2023
- T4699PWevelyng0 contributionsExcellentVirginia is the best guide. I joined her bespoke private tour, because in August she does not provide group tour, the heat is unbearable (that is coming from a tropical person who go out in the sun daily). She actually had scheduled food and sight, but since I was more interested in food, so she showed me 7 food places and 2 wet markets. She was very accomodating. She advised me on sayings about allergies in Cantonese. All the food places she showed were cash or Octopus Card only. But the food were good and lasted 2 days without refrigiration.Written 13 September 2023
- newbietravlr960 contributionsEVERYONE NEEDS A VIRGINIA IN THEIR LIFE!The process of having Virginia as our tour guide could not have been easier despite all the mistakes I made on my end for our group of 26 people. She easily turned our 15 hour layover in Hong Kong into memories we'll never forget! We had unknowingly been sitting next to her as she waited for us at our arrival gate with a huge smile on her face with her just as smiley and lovely assistant. She had a jam packed day ready for us and always ensured that each and every person in our group was accounted for and having a blast. Hong Kong humidity and heat is no joke - since we're all from the Pacific Islands we thought we could handle it, but it took its toll on us throughout the tour lol. We started off with the tram ride to The Peak. The views were absolutely breathtaking! It was a clear day, and we could see the cityscape below, surrounded by lush greenery. The tram ride itself was fun and a must-do experience. During the tour, we also visited Wong Tai Sin Temple, which was a serene and spiritual experience. Virginia provided us with some interesting insights into the history and traditions of the temple, making the visit all the more meaningful. Everyone was excited to learn what Zodiac animal they were and had fun taking photos next to them. For those who wanted to do some shopping and enjoy the blissful aircon, Temple Mall North was right next door. The variety of shops available here is unparalleled. Whether you're a fashionista, tech enthusiast, or someone looking for unique souvenirs, Temple Mall North has it all. From high-end luxury boutiques to trendy streetwear stores, you'll find an array of choices to cater to every taste and budget. Going on the Star Ferry ride is an absolute must-do! This iconic ferry service offers not just a mode of transport but an enchanting journey that captures the essence of this vibrant city. The ride across Victoria Harbour provided breathtaking panoramas of both the city's modern architecture and its charming historical landmarks. As the ferry glided gracefully through the calm waters, we couldn't help but marvel at the contrast between the towering skyscrapers and the traditional junk boats floating by. Now, onto the most important part – food! We had lunch at Tim Ho Wan, and it was fantastic. It was ALL DELICIOUS!!! BBQ Pork buns, shrimp dumplings, sticky rice, Siu mai, chicken feet and much more. Such an amazing dim sum experience with authentic food that left our taste buds dancing with joy for both new and experienced Chinese food lovers. I can not thank Virginia and her assistant enough for the amount of patience, time and effort they had put into the planning and managing of this tour. It's not always easy chaperoning 26 adults who are on their first long haul experience. We decided to end our tour a little bit early as everyone was not only knackered from hopping off an 11 hour flight, but the humidity and heat did a number on us. She was flexible with our decisions and constantly made sure we were comfortable. If you're looking for a guided tour in Hong Kong with a mix of sightseeing, cultural experiences, and delicious food, Virginia at Humid with a Chance of Fishballs Tours would be the best decision you've ever made! - X3792WXronw0 contributionsWhat A Great Lunch Experience! We met Virginia outside of a subway exit this morning to begin our dim sum guided luncheon. She was on time with a big smile on her face and excited to help us experience what is considered by many a classic dim sum lunch. Since Virginia is Canadian born Chinese her English is impeccable which helped us in our conversations as we learned more about each other and about many of the cultural traditions in Hong Kong. The restaurant was a short walk from our meeting point. I somehow felt transported back in time as I looked around the dining area with the servers pushing their dim sum carts up and down the isles, stopping at the tables, and dropping off their delicious wares with their patrons. Virginia told us all about the traditional customary dim sum lunch and explained the various dishes available. She showed us how to wash our cups, bowls, chopsticks and spoon are using hot water provided at our table in a traditional manner. She explained how to steep the tea properly and how to serve it to one another, thanking the pourer with an age old tradition of tapping two fingers on the table. Once bowls and chopsticks were clean and ready and our cups of tea were poured we begin to explore the wonderful world of dim sum! Frankly, I cannot recall precisely the names of the various dishes we were served, but they were all so very, very delicious! The dumplings were rich and flavorful with filings made from pork and chicken and shrimp and other delicious stuffings. Virginia guided us through the various offerings each step of the way with an explanation of what we were enjoying. She also pointed out intricacies about our surroundings telling us about the locals who traditionally enjoy their dim sum lunch and how the entire process works. For someone only familiar with traditional American restaurants this was quite an eye-opener for us and a marvelous learning experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Virginia and her guided dim sum lunch experience! The food was phenomenal, the ambience memorable, and Virginia made the whole thing simply spectacular! In fact, I would endorse any tour which Virginia provides because she is a fun, professional and engaging hostess!Written 31 January 2020
- JeanetteK5630 contributionsComprehensive day in Hong Kong! With our day with Virginia we saw sights and experienced the great cuisine. Virginia was very accommodating and adventurous. She checked in with us often to make sure we were happy. The highlights of our day together included: Victoria Peak & Peak Tram Dimsum at a 1920's traditional teahouse parlor (what a highlight of the day!), We had the ha gow (prawn dumplings), siu mai (pork and shrimp dumplings), quail egg dumplings, sticky rice and malay cake. While walking around downtown we had an opportunity to savor Egg tarts (inspired by the quiche) & milk tea. Among the various sights during our day was the Man Mo temple, Star Ferry excursion, down back to the MTR and to Sham Shui Po. Another local favorite was Snake penis and gecko wine (for male virility!) Virginia also walked us through one of the many interesting Wet Markets. The day wrapped up with more food.... YEAH! ...Rice rolls sauced with peanut sesame, soy sauce, hoisin and toasted sesame seeds with the locals in a sketchy alley.... BBQ pork and char siu, at a roasted meats place. We highly recommend Virginia and can't say enough great things about her and the quality of the time we spent together. This was the best tour we had out of all! You must connect with her.Written 26 January 2020

We saw a YouTube video with Anthony Bourdain eating typhoon shelter crab on a sempan, then we found Humid with a chance of fishballs so took the chance of booking. It was a really amazing experience! You start at Causeway Bay where the great guide Virginia took us to the tram via a shoe bashing ritual under the bridge. We have never seen that before and it was fun. We hopped on the tram then a short trip later were walking to Victoria Harbour typhoon shelter. The water taxi came and we were sitting on our private sampan where we were served a multi course feast. Seriously the best typhoon shelter crab, and the other dishes were amazing too. Virginia was great, she asked if we wanted privacy but she is great company and we were happy for her to give us the history of each dish, and of the people who used o live on boats in this harbour (some still do). Virginia is great and we were so fortunate to have her guide us through a wonderful dinner. I really recommend Virginia and Humid With A Chance Of Fishballs, to both tourists and locals who want to explore the inside of our city!

My husband and I have had this on our Hong Kong bucket list for some time now. A move out of HKG accelerated our plan to make it happen. We are kicking ourselves that we did not do it sooner! Highly recommend to HongKongers and visitors alike! Great food and a unique experience.

We had an amazing tour which started with an old school villain ceremony where a ‘granny’ helps you to let out any of your anger - a very unique and interesting experience! We then headed on the ding ding (tram) to the typhoon shelter. When we got to the boat we were served with the most delicious seafood, we especially loved the razor clams with enoki mushrooms and noodles, and the typhoon shelter crab (but it was all great). Even though it was raining we stayed dry and this didn’t dampen our spirits. The view of HK island from the boat it great so definitely get your camera ready. Even though we’ve lived in HK for 2 years we learned a lot on this tour. Would highly recommend it to anyone - locals, expats and visitors!

My husband and I really enjoyed our experience on the sampan boat with Virginia from Humid with a Chance of Meatballs. The food on the boat was delicious and so fresh! It was a special experience going on one sampan taxi boat to the other sampan where we ate our meal. To be on a boat, bobbing gently on the water moored in the harbour was such a lovely experience on a warm and humid night. And with a couple of cans of cold local beer to wash the yummy food down was just perfect!
We learnt a lot about Hong Kong inhabitants, history and culture and would recommend this experience to everyone.

From the get-go, our guide Virginia made us feel welcome and encouraged us to get to know the other people on the experience.
We were shown around Causeway bay before taking a water taxi to one of the few floating restaurants still operating on the authentic Sampan vessels in the typhoon shelter. Without this tour we would have had no idea that such things existed.
The food that followed was phenomenal (the black bean clam was our favourite) and left us replete.
We had lots of fun. Would recommend

Virginia (the company’s owner and founder) picked us up from Causeway Bay wearing antler eats and with a smile, lead us to our first experience for the night.
Under the flyover at Canal Road and Russell Street, we were treated to an ancient Chinese Folk Ritual known as “Villain Hitting” by Granny Chiu, freeing us of evil spirits.
We then made our way to the Sampan Boats for our seafood dinner. I don’t want to go into too much detail as to spoil it, but it was by far the highlight of our trip. Eating Typhoon Shelter Crab made by a man who has cooked for Jackie Chan, on a traditional Sampan Boat, overlooking the modern skyscrapers of Hong Kong was amazing.
If you want to explore beyond the shopping centres, rooftop bars and the Aqua Luna and see and experience something really unique...you have to book this through Virginia. It’s not flash (we wore shorts and sandals), but it didn’t pretend or need to be. I’d gladly do this experience again and again!
Thanks again Virginia for making our trip, we can’t wait to come back!!

Virginia was a great guide! We got to cast an ancient Chinese curse on our enemies and learn a bit about the sampan boats and the boat people before a nice seafood feast. (Make sure to buy lots of beer/drinks for the dinner) Definitely off the beaten path, easy recommend!

I grew up in Hong Kong and had no idea that this was something you could do until my husband and I came across Virginia's tour while looking for fun things to do a trip back home to visit family.
Simply stated - this is a must-book.
Virginia is incredibly charming, knowledgeable and great company on this unique experience.
For those that have had local seafood meals before, you already know what you're in for - fresh, steaming-hot dishes, ice-cold beer, and the gentle sway of the harbor, backlit by HK's incredible skyline.
It's not a white-glove luxury setting, but the ambiance is one-of-a-kind, and the food is decadent and lip-smackingly tasty. Don't be scared off by the slightly higher-than-average price; you're definitely getting your money's worth on the table, and in the expert guidance Virginia provides.

If there's one thing you should do on a trip to Hong Kong, it has to be this! Everything about the evening was great, rare and unique.
Every dish we had for dinner was super tasty, and cooked beautifully with fresh ingredients. The highlight though was the typhoon shelter crab. The crab covered in fried garlic is a sight to behold, and one of the best dishes I've ever eaten. Eating all this delicious food on a Sampan boat with great company was pure joy.
The villain beating ceremony was a fun peek into a tradition that's disappearing.
Virginia is the best guide one can ever get. She's fun, knowledgeable and passionate. She's like a friend who's discovered something magical and wants to share that magic with you.

Ok listen up fools because I'm about to blow your minds. My wife and I just got back from a ten day trip to Hong Kong and this was by far the best thing we did. And we did a lot of other things.
Here's the deal: I wanted to experience something authentic and unique; I also wanted something romantic that my wife would think was super cool so I could score some points with her, but also she's a pescatarian (and everything in HK is cooked with pork) so I had to keep that in mind too. This night checked all the boxes and then some.
Here are the top 5 reasons why you're gonna wanna go ahead and book this experience immediately:
- Virginia is awesome, she's funny and fun and makes the whole night feel like you're hanging with an old pal.
- The food is amazing, like... really, really good. Most of it was caught that day!
- It's totally unique, unlike anything else we did in HK (or anywhere else in the world for that matter).
- The visuals are amazing, seeing these old Sampan boats on the water with massive skyscrapers in the background, pictures don't do it justice, you have to see it for yourself.
- You make a beer/wine stop before dinner so you've got whatever drinks you want with you... and hanging out having a beer on the water after an epic dinner is my idea of a perfect night.
BONUS TIP: hit the HK museum of history (it's free!) before you have your Sampan boat dinner and learn about the history of the boat people in this area, it'll really enrich your experience.

BONUS TIP: hit the HK museum of history (it's free!) before you have your Sampan boat dinner and learn about the history of the boat people in this area, it'll really enrich your experience.
