    Incredible and unique food tour
This was definitely the most extensive food tour I have been on. We tried so much delicious food and also got to learn about the history and culture of Hong Kong! Mel was a great guide, and he really went above and beyond to make sure we all had a great experience. Not to mention basically every stop was Michelin recommended… Cannot recommend this tour enough!

Fabulous food tour on Hong Kong Island
We have just returned from a holiday to Hong Kong and one of the highlights of the trip was our food tour with Mel. Mel was a wonderful guide: he is engaging, professional and knowledgeable, and he made the tour very entertaining and interesting for our 7 year old and 11 year old daughters. Despite having lived in Hong Kong previously, we saw a side of the local food culture with Mel that we had never experienced before. After touring some local dried seafood and local medicine shops (our brief to Mel was "the more unusual the better"), we stopped at a tea shop where we enjoyed a traditional tea ceremony. We then moved on to a barbecue meat restaurant to try an assortment barbecue meats, noodles, rice and local drinks. Mel then found a couple of stores specialising in desserts requested by our daughters: egg waffles and egg tarts - both were delicious! We walked through a traditional wet market showcasing very fresh produce and ended at a Michelin-rated dim sum restaurant which served wonderful dumplings and another dish that our girls wanted to try, chicken feet. All in all, this food tour was a thoroughly enjoyable way to experience a more authentic Hong Kong. We would highly recommend Mel and the tour to anyone!

A fast paced look at Kowloon
We saw a lot of Kowloon in half a day with Alex. From fresh air markets and food stalls to the bright lights of Victoria harbor there were lots of sights and a few tasty bites. Alex knows a ton about the history and politics of the city and gave us a good overview of the contest between the riches and reality of Hong Kong.

Sinclair was great, and we got a real taste of Hong Kong despite the rain. We were able to see highlights, and had just enough time to squeeze this in during a business trip. Loved it!

    Great food Large portions.
I’ve done food tours all over the world and this one is the absolute best. Mel was a great guide and personally knew the people in most of the Michelin Guide locations. Bring stretchy pants because this one will leave you full.

    Great Snapshot of HK
Sinclair was on the dot to meet us at the hotel at the time we had scheduled. He has a pleasing and friendly demeanor and is very informative. He was receptive to what we wanted from the tour and was happy to take us accordingly. We got an overview of HK and we enjoyed our time with Sinclair. He was always checking in to make sure that we were ok and enjoying ourselves. Would highly recommend Sinclair !!Only downside was that the tour itself is a bit on the pricey side

Great introduction to an amazing city.
Alex was a great tour guide. This tour was a fantastic introduction to Hong Kong for us, especially considering our limited time here. We experienced many places and things that we would otherwise not known existed, and Alex had a great in-depth knowledge of Hong Kong history. Most of the food was delicious, with one or two things not to our taste, but it was all certainly good quality. Thanks Alex for being a great host in your beautiful city.

    Great culinary journey
The small group Hong Kong island food tour was a great culinary journey. The dim sum was a delightful assortment of dumplings, spring rolls and rice rolls, each bursting with unique flavors. The flaky and sweet egg tart left a lasting impression, and the wanton noodles were perfectly balanced in taste and texture. The rich and aromatic milk tea was a refreshing treat, especially under the scorching hot sun. Riding the iconic tram added a charming touch to the tour. Our food tour guide Sinclair’s knowledge of local cuisine and history added depth to the experience. Overall, the tour provided a fantastic blend of traditional flavours and cultural exploration.

Can’t imagine the day without Sinclair!
Sinclair made our trip to Tai O & Lantau island seamless and so fun. Although it was an incredibly scorching day, having Sinclair as our tour guide made the experience beyond worth it. He had everything planned out and we didn’t have to think about what was next or where to go. Sinclair had such great facts and information about places along the way- it made our trip that much more interesting. You can tell he’s passionate about what he does and his warm and easy going personality made all of us feel comfortable. He felt like a great friend to us at the end of the day. I highly recommend having Sinclair as your guide around Hong Kong!

We only had a day to really see Hong Kong and I’m glad we had Mel as our guide. We ate too much at the hotel so unfortunately we didn’t eat as much delicious food as I would have liked but we did hit up a few great spots. Mel took us all over the city and adjusted quickly to our requests. He had a wealth of knowledge and I feel we saw places we would not have seen otherwise.

I highly recommend taking a walking tour with Mel. Mel exceeded our expectations and made our Hong Kong experience exceptional during our walking tour. He customized the tour to our interest and provided great conversation. Mel had us feeling more like old friends taking us around town. This was definitely one of the highlights of our stay. If you get a chance to visit Hong Kong I highly recommend you look for Mel as your guide.

We (my youngest son, 23, and I) were very pleased indeed with this tour and with our guide, Mel. We'd done our research and cam up with a hit list, and Mel reviewed that, suggested a few additions and proposed the route, and off we went. Communication before from the company and from Mel were excellent and timely. Mel asked us about our aims for the time we had, and made sure to cover loads of information about culture, history, Hong Kong today - all the tings to give great insight to this amazing place. Mel spoke near perfect English, shared loads of information, gave us ideas on what else we could do in our time there, and showed us how to master the various forms of public transport. I can't think this could have been any better!

I was on a 26 hour layover in Hong Kong and wanted to see as much of the city as I could in this short time. Hello Hong Kong Tours was the best decision I could have made! As a young female travelling alone, I was very weary, and careful to choose a reputable company as I was looking for a private tour in order to maximise my time.

I booked an 8-hour private customised tour on the Hello Hong Kong website which was easy and provides the opportunity to list information regarding your interests in order for them to tailor your tour to your needs. I was staying at the Regal Airport Hotel, so I took the Airport Express (115 HK dollars return) to Hong Kong Station where I met my tour guide Mel. The train leaves the airport every 7 minutes and takes 24 minutes to arrive at Hong Kong Station, so plan accordingly if you choose this option.

Mel was super friendly and welcoming, and I immediately felt comfortable with him. He is incredibly energetic and full of interesting information. We visited a number of key tourist sites, but the highlights were visiting local stores, meeting the people and learning about the history of Hong Kong. We visited the Kai Fat tea shop where I was welcomed with sweets and tea (the owner is the sweetest lady who was very interested to learn about South Africa). We also met a wonderful local artist who painted a goldfish for me on a napkin.

We had a fantastic dim sum lunch at Lin Heung Kui where I had a truly authentic foodie experience! Mel took me passed a number of great stalls where I was able to purchase reasonably priced gifts. I also enjoyed learning about traditional medicines and visiting a snake soup shop.

We visited a number of religious sites from various religious groups which was enlightening and exciting to learn about.

We took a number of different forms of transport such as the MTR, a ding ding tram, a minibus, the Peak Tram and the Star Ferry.

Mel was a fantastic guide who is visibly passionate about his work. It felt more like exploring with a friend than being on a tour. His knowledge of South Africa and photography were a major asset. The company are incredibly responsive and were able adjust my start/ends times to suit my schedule. They also send through thank you emails detailing everything you cover during the tour which is incredibly helpful. This is a must for anyone who is visiting Hong Kong for the first time, or has a limited amount of time to see all the city has to offer.

I booked a 7 hour private tour, much to the concern of my husband and two girls (9 and 11) who thought that 7 hours would be too much. However time just flew in.
We had requested a tour to include local culture, food, Chinese medicine and shopping markets.
Joel set the pace wonderfully and was such a relaxed person that it felt like walking around HK with a friend.
I cannot recommend enough this tour as a way of finding out about HK. Do it early in your stay, as it helps orientate you.
We visited the bird market, fish (as pets) market, flower market and pet market. All with a great insight into HK culture.
We ate snake soup as a snack and stopped for a multitude of Dim Sum at a local restaurant.
We took a taxi up to the Peak and down on the tram.
Joel was patient throughout, especially when the girls and I wanted to spend time in some shops! But it gave my husband someone to chat with while we were inside :)
It was great to learn about Chinese culture and Feng Shui, as we saw buildings in a different way after that.
All in all, a great way to spend a day learning so much about Hong Kong.
We were not tired by the end as it was so relaxing. Thanks Joel!

My son and I are traveling together and literally just finished the eight hour tour which was so well worth it. Instead of going on a group tour where you may or may not be able to hear what the guide is saying we had 480 minutes of uninterrupted conversation about HK's history, culture, food, housing, politics, current events with our tour guide Mel on the bus, the MTR, ferry, lunch and hiking from site to site.

The great part about this tour is you dictate what your interests are and the tour is custom tailored to precisely that. We have some food allergies which I was concerned about so Mel found us a hip local HK restaurant that was sensitive to allergy concerns. What I thought might be a stressful experience turned out to be memorable as the three of had great conversation over lunch.

During the start of the tour my son (18) mentioned his interest in the Great Wall City of Kowloon which he'd read about and I guess is cult status on Reddit. No problem - Mel switched things around and at the end of the day we saw the Daoist monastery Dad wanted and the Wall City son wanted as our last events on the Kowloon side.

My hat is off to all tour guides as they must deal with all kinds and still be great ambassadors. Mel is a pro. On time, knowledge, friendly, willing and proud to show all sides of HK off to his guests. This is what's great to me about private tours - the time and connection you get with a local guide. The anecdotal stories you share and things you see off the beaten track are the vacation memories that stick to me.

When my son and I had dinner tonight I asked him what stood out and he said riding and talking with Mel on the double decker bus coming up from the fishing village to HK city center. I was snoozing at the time but he said at a particular point along the route the bus snakes through a series of high rise apartment buildings and from the top row of their double decker vantage point it gave him a very vivid Inception/Blade Runner 2049 type feeling. Funny what we absorb but the memory of the bus ride with Mel, apartment windows flying by, will stick with him forever.

Mel covered everything on our list including a few surprises thrown in. Super good guide. Tour is well worth the price of admission.

This is my second full day, private tour with Hello Hong Kong. If you are visiting for the first time, or only have a couple of days to spend in Hong Kong, I would highly recommend a tour with this company to kick off your trip. They cater the tour to what interests you and also give you the opportunity to experience as much as possible in a short amount of time. In addition, on our tour we tried every mode of public transport (MTR, Ferry, bus, ding ding, etc.) and were such pros by the end we could easily navigate anywhere in Hong Kong. Our tour guide Mel was fantastic! He knew we were adventurous eaters and so made sure to fit in street food stops and local (hole in the wall) restaurants so we could sample everything from chicken feet and sweet tofu to the best Dan Dan noodles I’ve ever had. We ended up returning on our own to some of the places Mel showed us because we liked them so much. It was an amazing day. I cannot recommend this tour company enough; it’s worth every penny.

My two teenaged daughters (on their first ever, and super brief, visit to Hong Kong) and I booked an eight hour tour with Kate. Having travelled the world, including increasingly with them, I can honestly say it was SPECTACULAR and I could not recco it more highly. Kate is the perfect guide - Australian heritage, so perfect English and a sunny personality, but due to her dad's career grew up in HK and knows every inch of the city. We went up the tram to the Peak, came back down and toured the historic district, rode the escalator in central district, saw Soho and the artsy district/where young expats live, had dim sum at a place packed with locals, took the ferry to Kowloon, subway back, top, front of the double decker bus out to Repulse Bay and Stanley - with stops for Boba tea, egg waffles and tons of other local snacks. Just based on tourist demographics, Kate does most of her tours for older American couples and small groups staying in town or on cruise ships, customizing it to the amount of time, sites, and walking they want to do. I will certainly reccomend her to my friends in those demographics. But my two teenagers want me to let travelling families know that they had an AWESOME time and that if you can get to Hong Kong even for a day with Kate - you will love it!

I was in Hong Kong on business but wanted to see as many things as possible after I finished my business meetings. I went on two private, customized tours (a four hour evening tour and a full day tour) with Hello Hong Kong on my last 1.5 days in the country before my flight home, so I would know what to see during future visits with my family. And that is exactly what I got - great customized tours!!

Karen took me around in the evening and Kate took me around for a full day. They were both extremely knowledgable in both history and culture, knew where to grab great food (went to eat Dim Sum in a place were the food was awesome but without Kate i would have never even considered entering the place, given its decor), knew how to navigate public transportation (we took subways and the ferry) and knew the short cuts and best viewing spots to see the attractions (like the 8 pm light show and quickest way to see The Peak at the least crowded time). And they were extremely proactive in customizing both what we were seeing (a local fish market, a temple, a church, a fabulous tea shop, etc.) and the time spent at each place, based on both my stated interests (which i gave them in advance) as well as their great listening skills where they could tell (and seem to predict) that i would have an interest in something, just based on our conversations along the route. They seamlessly appeared to adjust the tour in real-time to maximize my experience, making this a very personal, customized tour and not just a 'canned tour.' I would highly recommend both the company (easy to deal with) as well as the tour guides (Karen and Kate) that i had for my two tours. And they also sent along a great summary afterwards so i could remember what i saw and even some ideas for future visits.

I write the above as an experienced traveler (I have been to over 20 countries including Botswana,Tanzania, the Galapagos, Brazil, Italy, Spain, France, England, Japan, Israel, etc.)
I don't normally write reviews for many reasons (including because, more often than not, when I travel with my family my wife tends to write the review for us as she has more of an online presence than i do), but this tour was definitely worthy of a post.
