- gillianmY7737FW0 contributionsSimply amazing! It was amazing! Cecilia gave us great insights into the world of tea and even as complete beginners, we felt welcomed and we learned a lot! The time and energy that Cecilia put into our ceremony was more than we could have expected. We would highly recommend booking this event if you are interested in Hong Kong culture!Written 24 August 2024
- sarahsD4773JI0 contributionsWonderful insightful tour into the food and culture of Hong KongHad a fabulous time on the Central tour with Ed yesterday! He was clearly passionate and extremely knowledgeable about the history of Hong Kong cuisine. The food was all fantastic and the little insights Ed gave into the owners and how the food was prepared made for such a special experience. We wandered through streets and areas we’d actually already been too at times but understood them in a whole new light with the insights provided by our excellent guide! Had such a great time we booked in for the Sham Shui Po tour before we leave as well!Written 18 June 2024
- markwS6721FC0 contributionsTasty & Fun afternoon on Hong Kong IslandA very interesting and tasty afternoon with our foodie guide Ed. Saw a different side of Hong Kong. We visited 6 different venues with different style of food including dim sum, noodle soup, roast pork and egg tarts. Our visit to Man MonTemple Was also very atmospheric. We also heard a lot of interesting social History of HK from Ed. Very glad we did itWritten 7 June 2024
- lawrencec7970 contributionsBeen On Many, This was the BestWhat an experience: Great food, mini City Tour, Great Conversation. I was fortunate to be guided by Cecilia who was born in Hong Kong and lived around the world. Her English was perfect, her world view expansive, and her valid claim as a “Foodie” a huge plus. We sampled multiple dishes at 6 different stops. At each, Cecilia was acknowledged by staff and owners as more of a friend than just a tour guide. Her interest in supporting the local businesses was rewarded with good service, great food, and smiles. My one question: Is too much food a bad thing? An unexpected bonus was the brochure that described each restaurant, its address, and what we ate. The brochure also had suggestions for other places to eat and a list of useful Cantonese phrases which I found very useful in the following days of my first visit to Hong Kong. Fantastic tour. Very highly recommended…even for locals!Written 3 June 2024
- Patricia C0 contributionsFood tourEd was our guide, he was very knowledgeable about the area enriching our food tour experience. He was very entertaining and provided lots of interesting points on the challenges faced by current Hong Kong. He was lots of fun and really understood the dynamics of our group. Thanks for an amazing tour!Written 3 May 2024
- Second2try20140 contributionsA bit slow paced but interesting introduction to the areaAn interesting introduction to the area and its history. I enjoyed the various tastings and gluten free alternatives were able to be provided for me apart from the egg tart conclusion. It was interesting to see the food market and to visit the dried food shop. However the tour is very slow paced, it felt like the tasting slots had been set up too far apart so the guide was just stopping on random street corners and waffling to kill time which could be quite dull. Could have been an hour shorter I think, it ran over time as it was and I was quite tired out by the end from all the standing around.Written 24 April 2024
- Lala_summ0 contributionsSo much fun and so yummyThe tea tasting was one of the best experiences in Hong Kong. Cecilia was so welcoming and after a short introduction the tea tasting began. Her passion and enthusiasm for tea is contagious. I can only recommend the course!Written 23 April 2024
- martinfN5773RH0 contributionsGreat TourThis tour is a fantastic way to sample some local Hong Kong cuisine and learn a bit about the Central and Sheung Wan areas. It was one of the highlights of my trip. Ed the tour guide was great at sharing information and insights about Hong Kong, as well as suggestions for things to do. The mix of walking and food stops was just right and the food was plentiful and delicious. Highly recommend.Written 15 April 2024
- 2ronnyb0 contributionsFantastic afternoon with Cecilia & Hong Kong Foodie Tasting ToursWe had a fantastic afternoon together with Hong Kong Foodie Tasting Tours and our guide Cecilia. She took us on an culinary and cultural journey through the Central and Sheung Wan districts. We had some fantastic dishes on the route and also got the stories behind the places we visited. Cecilia is very knowledgeable and generous guide, making sure we had a wonderful afternoon, and indeed we had. Next time in Hong Kong, I will surely join one of the tours again. Thank you Cecilia!Written 28 March 2024
- HLRA0 contributionsHong Kong Food TourThis is a great tour to do, it introduces you to some great eating places that you may not consider if just walking by them. Ed, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and made the tour very enjoyable. He was able to tell us so much about HK, it’s past and present. The food options were well balanced finishing the day with an Egg Tart - not to be missed… I would highly recommend this tour as it is insightful and a great way to see the city as well.Written 23 March 2024
- dekoningmhj0 contributionsAn amazing food tour that lets you taste all key HK dishes and gives you lots of history of HKWe had an amazing food tour led by a quirky and super knowledgeable guide called Ed. He got our attention in the very first five minutes of the tour as he gave great tips to get around in HK, the history about the city and its typical food. We walked to various restaurants and historical spots where Ed filled us in on the history and how the city is further evolving. We had various stops and Ed tested our knowledge by doing a quiz. Very nice. The tour took a good 3,5 hours but was not rushed at all and overall very pleasant. I highly recommend Hong Kong Foodie and their tours!Written 6 March 2024
- seanyldn0 contributionsDelicious food and an hugely informative tour with a friendly, engaging guide!I had a fantastic time on the Central & Sheung Wan foodie tour, it was certainly one of the highlights of my trip. Our guide Ed was brilliant, giving us tonnes of local insight and interesting conversation, so much so that often it felt like more a chat with mates than an organised tour. This was helped by the fact there was just myself and a lovely German chap on it- so we could just sit and talk round a table, or stop to the side of the road easily when out and about… Ed gave us some great tips on places to visit for the rest of our itineraries. Nothing felt rushed whatsoever, we visited multiple places and took our time over the courses, while Ed told us about everything from the history of the restaurants and families that run them, how the food was made and how best to eat it, through to chat about the history of Hong Kong. Between the food stops, we visited multiple places such as Graham Street Market and Man Mo Temple - where he gave us really interesting insights into these locations, surrounding history and the threats to the traditional aspects of Hong Kong life in the face of widespread development. The tour is clearly very well thought out, where a filling visit to a restaurant was then followed by some walking and smaller snacky things - we ate quite a lot all in all, but it was paced perfectly. The pre-tour admin was really well sorted too, with allergy requirements etc being discussed through WhatsApp. The meeting point was easy to find, and Ed was great in helping us in the right directions for where we wanted to go afterwards. I was attracted to this tour based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews, and I’m very happy to add to them! I wish I’d done it earlier in my trip as it really boosted my confidence in going into these little food places where the best meals can be found! Definitely make this one of the first things you do when you arrive in Hong Kong, you won’t regret it!Written 12 February 2024
- delorean870 contributionsCentral & Sheung Wan Foodie Tour with SilvanaA great experience. Silvana was an engaging and friendly guide. All the places we visited were family run and the food was delicious. We also really enjoyed learning more about the history of the neighbourhoods we visited. The tour was well paced and the mix of dishes ideal. I would highly recommend Hong Kong Foodie and will certainly be trying another of their tours the next time we visit Hong Kong.Written 28 January 2024
- Acassie0 contributionsGreat fun even with a baby!We had a great time with our guide Carrie on the Sham Shui Po tour. We ate a great range of food with interesting walks around the neighborhood to learn about Hong Kong as well as the food. We had our six month old baby in the carrier and he had a great time too- he had tofu pudding and a good look around at every stop. Carrie was very helpful making sure we had space to sit with him and everything we needed.Written 16 January 2024

We live in Hong Kong and decided to do this tour to learn about a different neighbourhood in the city. Carrie was such an excellent guide - we learnt so much, not just about the food and local restaurants, but also about the history of the neighbourhood and family run businesses in the area. This was such a great experience that we will absolutely highly recommend to any of our visitors to the city.

Our guide Carrie was incredible! She was completely fluent in English, funny, engaging, and was able to answer all questions we had about Hong Kong. The tour itself was incredibly well organized and paced with time to digest. The places we visited were all local small businesses that I would have been hesitant to visit on my own. We had 6 different tastings with lots of explanations on local culture and history in between. I would highly recommend anyone take this tour and remember to arrive hungry!!

Hi G6876YHryans,
Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. It's so great to hear you had such a fabulous time with Carrie. She brings so much fun to each tour. Glad to know we were able to bring you to some of our favorite local joints that many non-locals might hesitate to go in, but where such great food is served. Great tip regarding arriving hungry! We definitely pace the tour for our participants to make sure we don't all end up with indigestion. :) We hope you will come back to eat your way through Hong Kong with us again soon!

We’ve been to Hong Kong many times but this was our first visit post Covid and we wanted to try something different. We’re glad we chose to do this food tour. Our guide Carrie was great. She navigated us through the streets of Sham Shui Po and provided interesting insights into the neighbourhood’s history, leading us to local eateries that showcased the city’s rich culinary heritage. We particularly enjoyed the steamed rice rolls, the soy bean curd dessert and the dumplings, delicious and true local flavours. Thank you for the memorable experience. We look forward to doing another food tour with Hong Kong Foodie Tasting Tour on our next trip.

Booking: This tour was a last minute booking for us. So I greatly appreciated Cecilia (our guide) for accommodating us. Since our request was a Sunday tour (which was not really done), Cecilia went out of her way to check with the different establishments on how we can make the Sunday tour happen despite this being a very busy day in Sham Shui Po. We even had some special arrangement with one of the establishments where we were allowed to enter before opening time.
Guide: Cecilia was a great guide! She not only stuck to her knowledge of the tour but she gave us a lot more stories and insights about the area and Hong Kong. She even answered some of my mom’s non-tour related questions (like where to get good roast goose, where to shop for this and that, etc). Most importantly, she made us feel very comfortable.
Tour: I’ve been to HK a number of times, but I learned so much about HK’s food culture in this tour more than all of my trips to HK combined. The food were delicious and fresh…not salty unlike other Chinese restaurants that are generous with their MSGs. My favorite was the Pineapple Bun and the noodles, but everything was really good. If I had a bigger appetite I think I would’ve ordered more.
Overall: Highly recommended tour. This is the first time I’ve booked a food tour and this set the bar high for me - not just the food but the experience we had was really good. If you’re new to HK or maybe have not had a formal introduction to HK food culture then this could be a good tour for you. It’s nothing fine dining, the food was simple but it’s a great way to get started into the HK food culture.

Hi jeremyjessley,
Thank you so much for reaching out to us to book this tour when you saw no availability on our website. Usually, our small-group tours usually take a short break in August as the weather is too hot. However, we were very glad to be able to arrange a Private Foodie Tour for your group.
Thanks for your compliments. It is our passion to share not just Hong Kong's fabulous food and food culture with travellers, but also everything about Hong Kong. We also want to make sure we take care of logistical arrangements for our participants ahead of time. Where possible, we arrange priority access so our guests can dine more comfortably and/or have insider access to see how the food and drinks are prepared.
I had such a great morning with you, your mom and your brother! Thanks for the wonderful conversations we had along the way, allowing me to understand your culture as well. If you need any assistance on your next trip, please let us know. We hope to see you and your family again on another Foodie Tour soon!
Take care,

We are a foody family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) and do food tours all over the world...often multiple tours in different parts of town in the same city. Our food tour with Carrie on January 2, 2025 in the Sham Shui Po District was excellent! Carrie is amazing...super engaging, fun, and knowledgeable about all things food and Hong Kong. She was an absolute delight to be with over the course of the 3.5 hours at 6 different locations. We really wanted to try some Hong Kong snacks that weren't part of the tour and she was super accommodating helping us understand what to purchase and where, then helping us do so along the way. Meanwhile, the food on this tour was DELICIOUS! It was great to try some really authentic Cantonese food in long-regarded local establishments. We actually took another tour with Hong Kong Foodies a few days earlier in the Central district and liked this tour better: the food was tastier, the restaurants and their history more interesting, and Sham Shui Po is more vibrant culturally since it's a working class area and feels like stepping back in time to the 1960s. Couldn't recommend Carrie and this food tour more.

I went on this tour with an Italian foodie friend visiting from New York. We both had a great time. Our guide, Carrie, was very knowledgeable as she said she grew up in the area. Because of the relationship with the restaurants and vendors, Carrie was able to bring us to the back of house to see how things were prepared. We didn't feel like we were intruding as all the restaurant and store owners were very friendly and were expecting us. Even though I am from Hong Kong, I still learnt a lot about the origins and preparation of local foods. And everything was yummy!! I highly recommend this tour to all visitors and locals as well!

Hi Linga209,
Thanks for bringing your visiting friend on our Sham Shui Po Foodie Tour. Many locals initially think they might not find our tours interesting, but for those who have come along on it, like yourself, they love it and always tell us how much they learn. As you experienced, our Foodie Tours don't just take participants to eat non-stop, we also love to share as much as possible for a deeper appreciation of our culinary culture. As such, where possible, we always arrange insider access to see the chef or owner in action. We also hope the stories we share about the shop's history (whether it's a third-generation shop or a new entrepreneurial outlet) will cast light on Hong Kong's past and present as well.
Thank you again for sharing this experience with your Italian friend. We hope to see you again with other visitors on another Foodie Tour!

Our guide Carrie met us at the entrance to a subway in the Sham Shui Po area and took us on a very interesting and quite delicious food tour. She knows the area well and obviously enjoys sharing her knowledge. We had straight from the oven pineapple bun (it melts in your mouth), then long white rice rolls with a variety of seasonings (like white rolled up pasta but better), then freshly made tofu pudding. I normally don't eat tofu but this was like a thin yougert in ginger juice and tasty. We then tried two different dumplings - pork/cabbage and pork/watercress both of which were good most likely due to the presence of lard in the meat mixture. We got to go to the back of the Eight Angels bakery to meet the owner and try several crunchy cookies - yum! The last stop was the only bust in my opinion but a must for locals who enjoy fish soup with shrimp roe - way too fishy for my tastes. During the entire tour we were wandering in and out of different markets selling all manner of interesting items. Do not miss this tour!

Loved this tour! We had some free time in Hong Kong after our China tour ended and we wanted a guide to the local eats. This tour was an excellent choice! We had such a wide range of foods to sample, never too much to fill us before it ended. We were also guided through markets and we were told how the locals live, work and shop.
We were given a booklet to review what we had eaten, in case we wanted to order it again. Thank you very much for a great experience!

The tour has about 6 stops and takes about 3 hours. Carrie our guide was chirpy, witty and gave us lots of information. She was able to easily establish the cultural link between the food and the people and it was interesting. To the extent possible she also accommodated the vegetarians in the group. A food tour can be a disaster without a proper guide and Carrie does a very good job.
