    Loved every minute
A fantastic, friendly and informative tour. We ended up going from small group (2) to solo (just me!) as my partner was unwell and were accommodated easily. All of the food was fantastic and our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The whole experience felt like a casual stroll around a friend’s neighbourhood.

Great food & cultural information with an awesome tour guide
We are a foody family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) and do food tours all over the world...often multiple tours in different parts of town in the same city. Our food tour with Carrie on January 2, 2025 in the Sham Shui Po District was excellent! Carrie is amazing...super engaging, fun, and knowledgeable about all things food and Hong Kong. She was an absolute delight to be with over the course of the 3.5 hours at 6 different locations. We really wanted to try some Hong Kong snacks that weren't part of the tour and she was super accommodating helping us understand what to purchase and where, then helping us do so along the way. Meanwhile, the food on this tour was DELICIOUS! It was great to try some really authentic Cantonese food in long-regarded local establishments. We actually took another tour with Hong Kong Foodies a few days earlier in the Central district and liked this tour better: the food was tastier, the restaurants and their history more interesting, and Sham Shui Po is more vibrant culturally since it's a working class area and feels like stepping back in time to the 1960s. Couldn't recommend Carrie and this food tour more.

A wonderful food and cultural adventure - highly recommended!
My husband and I had a great time learning a bit about the Sham Shui Po neighborhood and culture, as well as experiencing several new foods. Every bit of this 3.5 hours was a delightful experience.

Interesting food tour with local specialities
Excellent food tour visiting spots we would never have found on our own. The difference between the pineapple bun we had with our guide, as compared to another we had later in the trip was huge! A nice way to start off our holiday.

Great local experience with delicious food
We had a brilliant time on our tour - our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly and all the food we tried was delicious. It was a great way to explore a lesser-visited part of the city and see how locals live.

Delicious, well organised - highly recommended
I loved every minute of this tour. Our guide was informative and friendly, the food was delicious and the insights about HK culture and this under-visited neighbourhood were fascinating. Highly recommended!

    Interesting tour
I enjoyed the tour. It was nice to explore Sham Shui Po and try the local food. Carrie was friendly and the pace of the tour was just nice. Towards the end of the tour, it started raining heavily so I'm happy we managed to see the area before the rain. Thank you for the good time.

A glimpse into Sham Shui Po
Highly recommended tour if you want to a glimpse of the real Hong Kong from a local POV Guide: Carrie was great! We learned a lot about local history andculture aside from the food. She was very bubbly yet professional throughout the tour. Food: Originally booked the tour just to eat at Hop Yik Tai (cheong fun) and it did not disappoint! Some of the best rice rolls I’ve ever had. All the food was awesome ( I was already full after the 3rd stop) It was a bit warm for mid autumn but it was a great experience nonetheless. Worth the price. Will probably book the Central & Sheung Wan tour the next time I come back.

Great tour to learn about HK food culture!
Booking: This tour was a last minute booking for us. So I greatly appreciated Cecilia (our guide) for accommodating us. Since our request was a Sunday tour (which was not really done), Cecilia went out of her way to check with the different establishments on how we can make the Sunday tour happen despite this being a very busy day in Sham Shui Po. We even had some special arrangement with one of the establishments where we were allowed to enter before opening time. Guide: Cecilia was a great guide! She not only stuck to her knowledge of the tour but she gave us a lot more stories and insights about the area and Hong Kong. She even answered some of my mom’s non-tour related questions (like where to get good roast goose, where to shop for this and that, etc). Most importantly, she made us feel very comfortable. Tour: I’ve been to HK a number of times, but I learned so much about HK’s food culture in this tour more than all of my trips to HK combined. The food were delicious and fresh…not salty unlike other Chinese restaurants that are generous with their MSGs. My favorite was the Pineapple Bun and the noodles, but everything was really good. If I had a bigger appetite I think I would’ve ordered more. Overall: Highly recommended tour. This is the first time I’ve booked a food tour and this set the bar high for me - not just the food but the experience we had was really good. If you’re new to HK or maybe have not had a formal introduction to HK food culture then this could be a good tour for you. It’s nothing fine dining, the food was simple but it’s a great way to get started into the HK food culture.

    Simply amazing!
It was amazing! Cecilia gave us great insights into the world of tea and even as complete beginners, we felt welcomed and we learned a lot! The time and energy that Cecilia put into our ceremony was more than we could have expected. We would highly recommend booking this event if you are interested in Hong Kong culture!

    Awesome food tour
Loved our few hours wandering Sham Shui Po with our guide Carrie - the food we tried along the way was delicious (we would never have found those places without this tour) and she gave us lots of interesting info on the neighbourhood too, would highly recommend

++ Understand and feel the culture ++
The food tour with Carrie was great. We went to 5 small restaurants that we would never have visited without Carrie. We learned a lot about the Sham Shui Po district and its people. As Carrie grew up here, she knows her way around and had already been to the restaurants with her parents as a child. The restaurants for the tour were carefully selected and all have a long family history. We were also allowed to watch some dishes being prepared, such as dumplings or coffee and got the opportunity to ask questions to the chefs (Carrie translated 😅). In addition to the restaurants, we also visited other small family-run stores, such as the stores selling medicinal fish products. 👉 A clear recommendation! Thank you for this trip Carrie!

    Goodie Foodie Tour!
I went on this tour with an Italian foodie friend visiting from New York. We both had a great time. Our guide, Carrie, was very knowledgeable as she said she grew up in the area. Because of the relationship with the restaurants and vendors, Carrie was able to bring us to the back of house to see how things were prepared. We didn't feel like we were intruding as all the restaurant and store owners were very friendly and were expecting us. Even though I am from Hong Kong, I still learnt a lot about the origins and preparation of local foods. And everything was yummy!! I highly recommend this tour to all visitors and locals as well!

Enjoyed this tour of our local area during COVID restrictions and almost no tourism in HK. Yammy our guide, had taken a second job with the lack of tourists - but both of us and Yammy herself enjoyed running the tour for my husband and me. All of the locals called out as we walked along - through each market stall! Terrific opportunity to see our local area (as expats) - wandering and seeing inside kitchens of places we hadn't dared to visit ! We now have many new places to eat at !! Thanks Yammy !!!

I recently met up with Yammy from Hong Kong foodie tours for a one on one tour.
Even though I was the only guest, her passion and knowledge was evident all tour, it was appreciated. Being born and raised in Hong Kong allowed me to share some of her favourite establishments, as well as kitchen tours, and ‘hidden’ cafes only locals would know about. Most of the places you visit have been around for 50 years or more, a testament to the quality of meals and drink offered to you.
Would I recommend this tour... yep 100%
Thank you Yammy for such a wonderful and inciteful tour.

Cecilia was amazing! She took the time to carefully explain the history behind all the eateries we visited and walked us through some of the local traditions. In addition to trying delicious food from family-owned restaurants, we walked around Central and got familiarised with the history of Hong Kong. We even got back to one of the stops we visited the next day to bring some souvenirs home.
Could not recommend this tour enough - ideally, you should do it early on in your trip to Hong Kong in order to make the most of your time in the city!

I was going for the food Tour alone and met Ed who is a fantastic tour and food Guide. He likes to talk alot about his city and provides you with alot of detailed information while you can enjoy your food. It was very interesting to also get a look behind the food kitchen and experience how the food is actually made and how much Work the people Put into this. Ed knows alot of people and trys to keep the little Shops and kitchens alive by making people more concious about what is happening in Hong Kong. He also gives you the chance to ask as many questions as you want. I would do it again!

Best regards
Robin

This is a great food tour! Ed was our guide and he's amazing. He's really friendly, knowledgeable, and fun. He made sure our entire group was engaged and interested the whole time. Each stop featured food that was both delicious and relevant to Hong Kong. As first-timers, this was a great way to get the basics of the city's food and culture. Ed shared information beyond just food, which was helpful and much appreciated. I think this is a great way to spend an afternoon as you are both eating and learning at the same time. Great experience!

What an experience: Great food, mini City Tour, Great Conversation. I was fortunate to be guided by Cecilia who was born in Hong Kong and lived around the world. Her English was perfect, her world view expansive, and her valid claim as a “Foodie” a huge plus. We sampled multiple dishes at 6 different stops. At each, Cecilia was acknowledged by staff and owners as more of a friend than just a tour guide. Her interest in supporting the local businesses was rewarded with good service, great food, and smiles. My one question: Is too much food a bad thing? An unexpected bonus was the brochure that described each restaurant, its address, and what we ate. The brochure also had suggestions for other places to eat and a list of useful Cantonese phrases which I found very useful in the following days of my first visit to Hong Kong. Fantastic tour. Very highly recommended…even for locals!

Hi lawrencec797, Thank you for not just the great review but also the great conversations! It was my privilege to be able to share with you our passion for Hong Kong's great food, our culinary culture and more. Most of the eateries we showcase on our Foodie Tour are family-run, with a large majority of them having been our partners for a long time. They not only make great food, they really represent our Hong Kong spirit. We are doing our small part to support them, especially when times are challenging. I hope you enjoyed the rest of the stay in Hong Kong and as you continued your journey in other parts of Asia. Next time when you come through town, please let us know. Perhaps you can join us on our Sham Shui Po Foodie Tour or another small-group tour, or we can arrange a customised Private Foodie Tour for you. Thank you again for the opportunity to take you around our hometown. Also, apologies for such a long delay in sending a response to your fabulous feedback. Best regards, Cecilia

This is a gem not only for visitors but also for expats living in Hong Kong. We took the whole family with friends and kids aged 8-12years and it was an amazing experience! A wonderful balance between great local food you’d never find by yourself and history or local anecdotes that just made everything so real and special. I look forward to trying out another route soon...

I actually went on two Foodie Tours: Central, as well as Sham Shui Po. For me, food is one of the biggest parts of travelling, and we went to places that I never would have gone to on my own. It was a great learning experience with knowledgeable people and fantastic food. And as food is such an important component of Hong Kong life, I learned a lot about the city and how it's changing. Very much worth it.

Thanks, Companion50424944046, firstly for joining us on both Foodie Tours that are currently running and also for taking the time to write such a positive review. We started our Foodie Tours not only to showcase the fabulous food our home city offers, but to share with our visitors our culture and way of living through our cuisine. Thank you for giving us so much time to share our passion with you. We're glad to hear you found it so worthwhile. Come back and visit us. We will soon be re-introducing some of our other Foodie Tours that are currently suspended.

This was such a fun day! Lillian was an excellent tour guide, it was just the two of us and she was delightful company and brought me to lots of places I would never have found myself, as well as explaining their history and cultural significance. Between dishes there was plenty of history and fun facts about the different neighbourhoods we passed through. It was a great insight to Hong Kong food and culture, even for those who think they know it all!
