- Jeanne Y00Best Tour Guide in Beijing - 100% Recommended, professional, knowledgeable, kind - ABSOLUTELY amazing experience.Leo is ABSOLUTELY amazing. I had a private tour of Beijing to the Great Wall, temple of heaven, a small food tour and couple other parks and areas around Beijing. 110% HIGHLY recommended. He is knowledgeable, professional, kind, and is amazing at what he does, not to mention his English is completely fluent. Leo has been tour guiding for the last 15 years, so is experienced with knowing where/when/how to best take you while tailoring to your needs. I'm one of those very particular well travelled travellers - so am looking for an authentic/non touristy experience, and Leo blew my mind out of the water, I've been to Beijing 4 times and this was the absolute best trip I've had yet thanks to him.
- ccna2005 Stars is not enoughFrom the very start to the end..there was never a hiccup or flaw….Leo answered my tour queries promptly. After I booked, everything was as described….and then some! First, let me say that I read all the reviews for the all private tours before selecting Beijing Walking Tours. I have never been to China and do not speak the language but enjoy learning about history, culture, and the local way of life. Not only did Leo exceed my expectations in these categories, he was flexible…if I wanted to try or see something, he adjusted the itinerary cheerfully in his laid back style. He picked local restaurants where the locals eat…and the meals were fantastic! Same with his photography! (Included without extra fees) He has years of experience which paved the way for the most delightful experience. So don’t be stingy…get a private tour with Beijing Walking Tours..you won’t have to deal with a bus load of people and you get more than your money’s worth…Can’t say enough about this!
- jufcardoso00Amazing experience at the Great WallWe booked a private transfer from Beijing to hike from Jiankou to Mutianyu with Leo. Leo helped us find the right trail up to Jiankou in the morning and waited for us at the other end. Contact was easy and we set everything up by email. We had a great time, Leo speaks excellent English and responded to our many questions about China and Beijing. It was a pleasure chatting away together to and from the great wall.
- nramirezgon00Short time at Beijing but worth it because of Leo !!Leo was absolutely incredible!! Our trip to Beijing was amazing because of him. He is so nice, kind, and caring. He’s fluent English so the communication is perfect. We only had 2 days to enjoy the city, and he adapted the tour to our timing. It was perfect! He pick us up and drop us off at the airport, and always pick us up the hotel everyday! Was great. He took us to the most beautiful parts of the turistic sites, not very crowded, so the experience was amazing. I would totally recomend this tour guide!!! He made me feel in love with this city. Do not doubt about this tour, it would change your life.
- 369elliea002 Day Family HikeWe loved our trip with Leo! We have 5 children, ranging from 5 years old to 15 years old. Our family wanted to experience an unrestored section of the wall away from the crowds. Leo helped us plan an unforgettable experience. Leo was patient and flexible and helpful. It was great to be picked up and dropped off at the locations of our choice. We really enjoyed the quiet little village we stayed in. He made sure we had enough water and snacks. He guided us around the parts of the wall where it is crumbling too much to hike safely. His English is great, so he was able to talk to us about the history of Beijing and the Great Wall as well as ensure there was no confusion about logistics. Leo took pictures for us the whole time so we could focus more on hiking and kids as we wanted. We would definitely do this again, and I recommend Leo without reservation.
- Sambam42800Wine on the Great Wall at Twilight! This was an absolutely amazing trip and experience. Leo is such an amazing guide and his English is excellent. The photos he took for us were gorgeous and he put so much thought and effort into everything. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone I know. This was such a special experience and it was definitely worth the drive. If you are in Beijing and want to see a part of the wall that doesn't have as many tourists with a guide who really tries to make the whole day perfect for you look no further.
- Tim S00Leo helped us fall in love with China and its people - Amazing Tour and Delightful GuideWhenever I hear of someone headed to Beijing, I make sure they know about Leo and his amazing tour. We hired Leo for a personalized tour for our family of 8, with 2 parents and 6 children. We had 2 college age kids, two in high school and a 12 year old and a 8 year old. Leo connected with all of our kids and our youngest two felt especially connected to Leo and still talk about him years later. Daki picked us up from the airport in the afternoon and took us to our hotel and helped us get situated (the front desk didn't speak any English). That evening, Daki walked us around downtown, showing us how to navigate the city and taking us to an open air food market where they were selling all sorts of exotic cooked delicacies such as fried scorpion. She also took us to an outdoor square where they were doing ballroom dancing and my kids all joined in. The next day we were picked up and shuttled in a comfortable van to the Great Wall of China and Leo was our guide for the day. Leo is engaging, charming and had a great sense of humor and quickly won over our kids. If you like having a great storyteller, Leo is the guide for you. He was able to take the complex Chinese history and make it interesting for all of us. Leo was so kind to think of our kids and brought 2 kites that our kids could fly on the top of the Great Wall. What a memory! We rode down the toboggan down and then stopped at lunch where Leo helped us navigate the menu. We quickly became obsessed with the green beans and we ordered them at nearly every meal there after. They made our tongues slightly numb and the flavor was fantastic. We had planned on going to the Olympic Park, but Leo accommodated my 8 year old daughter's dream to see some Pandas in China and we made a detour to the Beijing Zoo. We only had time to race to the Panda exhibit, but my daughter was in heaven. We then walked through the Summer Palace and then had Beijing Duck for dinner! Yummy. The next day, Leo had arranged at our request a private Tai Chi lesson in a public park. It was a wonderful experience and the teacher was very patient with us. We enjoyed seeing the elderly Chinese working out on some public work-out equipment. We then went to a Baiyunguan taoism temple, did a Qianmen street walk, visited Tiananmen square and the The Forbidden City, and did a Hutong walking tour where we visited a man who did fighting crickets. We finished the day by visiting the Lama temple and the Hongqiao market. Leo was attentive, charming, flexible and an excellent photographer. If we every make it back to beautiful Beijing, we will certainly hire him again. We give him our highest recommendation!
- extr3me_8400Unforgettable Lifetime ExperienceOverall it was good and well-organized. Connect with Leo’s WeChat which is written on the website might ensure you get reply. All the reservation process was smooth and fast. As this was my first time to visit Beijing, Leo helped me to arrange a 3-day tour as below. 1. Temple of Heaven - Forbidden City 2. Summer Palace - Lama Temple 3. Great Wall Gubeikou to Jinshanling My guide was Adele for the whole tour. She always showed up at the hotel lobby on time. All the tour was well-organized, she introduced lots of local food, and I really had a great time. I would recommend this tour.
- 97connort00Fantastic tour, super friendly and helpful guide! We loved our private tour to Mutianyu Great Wall with Leo, he was a really great conversationalist, and very informative about the Wall's and the area's history. Doing a private tour also made the experience much more hassle-free than the group tour I'd done previously through a different company. I cannot highly enough recommend Leo!
- Slime_Jime00Jiankou to Mutianyu Hiking TourWe did the Jiankou to Mutianyu hiking tour with BeijingWalking in early Jan 2020. Just booked on their website. It was low season so we had the whole Jiankou section of the wall to ourselves. It was amazing seeing the wall and surrounds in winter with snow on it. Leo was our guide and tailored the day to suit us. So glad we did this rather than the big group options.
- amirby00Just what we neededLeo planed for us exactly the tour we needed and asked for. 5 hour tour with all the highlights near the forbidden city, along some quite and charm full places. Leo also explained to us all the history and politics of china in a good and fluid English. We had a great time. Thank you Leo.
- RichardG85200Awesome Adele, Terrific Tour.I booked the Beijing 2-days private tour to coincidence with my wife's birthday. At the time, I was recovering from an injury which required the use of a crutch and that made it difficult for me to stand for long periods of time. Our Tour Guide Adele was very accommodating and allowed us to walk at a pace to suit us as well as making sure I could use the lift and that I didn't have to stand in long queues. Having a private vehicle to pick us up and drop us off at the attractions was a huge advantage, the driver was lovely and within the car were all sorts of amenities including bottles of water. Adele spoke English extremely well and passionately told us about the history of the fascinating and beautiful places that she took us. She made the whole tour process go very smoothly, always looked out for our needs (suggesting good places to take comfort breaks) and making sure that as little time as possible was wasted waiting around. One lunch time, she felt the waiting time for a table was too long at the chosen venue so almost immediately after the driver had dropped us off, she called him back and went somewhere else. Adele made the tour even more special for my wife by providing several surprises for her birthday. All-in-all we both would highly recommend this Tour Company and more so Adele.
- 854tanjah00Fantastic experience with amazing picturesWe took an early morning tour with Leo to visit the Great Wall. It was hand down the best experience we had in China. We had the section of the wall entirely to ourselves on a cold but beautiful winter day. Not only is Leo a super friendly guy who shared a lot of stories and Beijing tips for the remainder of our travel, he also turned out to be a fantastic photographer. There is nothing about the Great Wall Tour with Leo I cannot recommend.
- 681ennyy00Hassle free tourWe had a private tour to Mutianyu Great Wall and Summer Palace. Leo picked us at the hotel in the morning, the vehicle was comfortable and clean. We took chairlift to ascend and toboggan to descend at Mutianyu Great Wall. It was the highlight of our tour. Leo also brought us to halal restaurant for lunch. And we had plenty photos as memento during our trip that sent through email.
- Ericafern00Must do! Best tour I did in ChinaThis tour was the highlight of my China vacation. Leo, my guide, was wonderful. We did the summer palace and a section of the Great Wall. I only had one day and wanted to see both sites. Great Wall tours worked with me to be able to fit both of these in when other tours would not. It was super easy to book and Leo picked us up from the airport as soon as we arrived in Beijing. The summer palace was stunning and Leo took us on an off the beaten path tour of the palace. We got to see all the major highlights but also some great hidden gems on the grounds. I really wanted to see a wild section of the Great Wall and do a little hike at sunset. The section we went to was relatively easy to hike. I was with my mom and she made it up the small hike to the wall but decided to just sit on the wall while the guide and I went on a longer more strenuous walk along the wall. The views were fantastic and totally worth doing a sunset trip to the Great Wall. As an added bonus, Leo is a photographer and took some stunning photos throughout the day for us!

What an amazing tour!
First a short hike up to an unrestored section of the wall, then to the restored section for the sunset.
In between we had a great lunch at a restaurant using all fresh ingredients.
Our guide Leo is a passionate photographer and showed us the best places for pictures in each light! And he took some amazing shots of us, too!

Definitely exceeded my expectations - being a first time solo traveller who doesn't speak Chinese, was pleasantly surprised by Leo who spoke such good English and took care of everything from start to end of this day tour. Was a really fun day with a mini photoshoot at the best spots!! What made it even better was that it wasn't the usual crowded sections that tourists visit. Was so beautiful and thankful for this amazing experience. Highly highly recommend if you're able to climb/hike a fair bit. It's a tad pricey for solo travellers but 100% worth it

Everything was great, food, accommodation, logistics and of course the hikes. Leo is very flexible and will adapt the hikes as you wish. Can recommend the Jiankou hike if you are up for a challenging hike with amazing views. Leo also knows a lot about Chinese history, which was very interesting.

We had an awesome tour with Leo. He took us to two spots on the Wall where we had amazing views and there were very few people. Lunch was tasty and he also took some great photos for us. If you are considering going to the Great Wall, we would definitely recommend this tour with Leo!

So i have done several trips and tours in Beijing. I think the most outstanding tour i did was with Catherine Lu, hence it does not surprise me that they are ranked first. So using that as a benchmark, my review is based on our experience with Leo and Joe.
Leo was great to deal with, i was very specific what we wanted to do, which restaurants we wanted to go to and the plan for the day. Everything was sorted and finalised and this weekend we commenced the tour plan.
On the first day, the guide, joe changed our plan slightly, suggesting to go to Ming Tours first and then the great wall, as less crowded, i still feel we were better going to the great wall to avoid the midday rush, however we went ahead with the guides recommendation.
During my correspondence with Leo, he confirmed that all our restaurants would be booked, this is where the issue happened. I wanted to go to a certain restaurant (The School House) after the great wall, however this was closed, due to renovations, so disappointed that Leo/ Joe did not call beforehand, so i could have selected another option. Instead we were trying to find a restaurant for lunch at the great wall during our tour.
Then the place i wanted to go for dinner, was fully booked, that was the country kitchen, see its ranking under restaurants. So both options failed. For dinner we went to dadong and had peking duck which was fine, but not what i wanted to do. Mong tour was a little disappointing, we didnt see the places as you have the pics in trip advisor, so perhaps we missed some key views and places.
For lunch, Joe then took us to some restaurant he said is very good. In the morning prior to the tour, i made it clear i cant have pork, then at the restaurant i verified with him about the fried rice and he said it was vegetarian. The rice had chinese sausage. I thought i was clear i cant have pork or anything associated with pigs meat, although that didnt work.
To my surprise, not an issue, but i thought i would have a quiet lunch with my boss, instead Joe also sat in and enjoyed lunch with us, which was at of our own expense, not a major issue, but you would think one would ask if it was ok, and of course it is.
So day 1 i felt a little disappointed in, the plan the restaurants, lunch, was not really what i wanted and how i expected our day to go.
The second day we did forbidden palace, that was very rushed, not alot of details shared, so it came in bits and pieces. Then after that we had lunch where i wanted, which was superb- Huajia Yiyuan. On the plan we had temple of heaven, jingshan park and meridian gate, which we didnt see.
We did add pearls market for an hour. My boss left a sandalwood fan with Joe, who he returned today. So that was forgotten. We had booked a 1 hour trishaw ride around hutong, however instead had a 15min ride and 30min walk. So what we agreed and what happened was very different.
I try and be specific and diligent on my plans, however i feel this tour company failed to meet those requirements. If i am hosting again in beijing, I will stick with Catherine and probably not use this company again.
Once again, i like a guide building rapport and sharing interest, however sometimes they step over the mark, by asking personal questions, so this time, i felt it was not the best tour we did in Beijing, and a real shame as it was my Boss's first visit to Beijing. Saying that, last time i did it with Catherine, they executed exactly on the plan, so they set the expectations high and deliver accordingly.

Dear Hanson,
Thank you so much for spending your precious time to give us a review. I am sorry to know some of the bad experience you had and apologize for some of the little things we didn't make it perfect.
After reading the review I talked to our guide - Joe. And I have something to clarify.
1. Why did not joe take you to the Great Wall first?
Most visitors should know that the Great Wall is less busy in the afternoon as most people like to go there first. We want you to have a good experience that's why we are a professional tour guide! What's the difference for us? We all think about you. The morning traffic to the wall is super bad after we checked the traffic. By save your time, we communicate with you to switch.
2. Joe sit with you for lunch on day one
Joe is a very friendly guy, he always wants to show you more and share more. He didn't ask you pay his lunch and he pays it by himself. As the restaurant was very busy at lunchtime, so he sits close to you and talks to you. He should have to ask your permission. It was too busy, he doesn't find a place to sit. You don't want your tour guide to stand in front of you and eat or just didn't have lunch to guide you, right?
3. The lunch with pork
when you order the food, the waiter did say it is vegetarian and Joe also helps you translate it, but we forget to double check. Sorry for you. But we did what we should do.
4. Why was it so rush on the 2nd day?
You are late! You are late! You are late!
You made the tour plan with me. It seems you know the city very well (visit Beijing 4 times before)and you want to show your boss as much as you want in this weekend. We both agree on the tour plan and feel it is doable with your limited time.
You should know you have a lot to do. At 8 hrs, it covers so many sites and you want to show your boss everything.
2nd, The restaurant only keeps your reservation till 12:30. So Joe guides the tour as we think is good. Lunch is very important to you, he doesn't want you to miss it again as you complained before.
3rd, You boss want to buy something from China. He was tired and seems don't want to walk too much. That's why Joe takes you to Hongqiao market. You spend 1.5hrs there. That's why you didn't do the temple of heaven.
5. Guide and Driver
Joe guide you more than 13hrs on day one. And the driver and guide wait for you outside the restaurant when you have meals. You didn't even say thank you!
Joe send your fan which is the souvenir you boss brought back on the day after guide you. You know Beijing is big, it took him 2 hrs to get to your hotel and he needs to go to work on that day. The fan is only 10 Yuan. Think about it! 10 yuan Fan=2 extra hours in subway/bus during Beijing Morning rush hour! What your guide can do more for you! You didn't even with thanks!
Joe did so many extra things to you as a normal tour guide should do. He liked to be with you so much when I called him for your review. He was so surprised. He told me he was so sincerely to you and for all your questions and requests. You seemed to like him and his conversation a lot. But the things you did really chill our blood!!!
In the end, by your complaint, we still make up for you with a good money. You were so thankful.
IThank you for the review. It helps us to improve our service in all details.
Sincerely Yours
Leo Kui

We took part in 3 of Leo's tours. Jiankou to Mutianyu Adventure Hiking Tour, Free Beijing tour and Wild Great Wall Sunset Photo Tour. The Adventure hike was incredible, after a challenging 45 minutes of uphill climbing the views at the top are amazing seeing the wild wall. The walk from then on is much easier, still challenging at parts but amazing to go from Wild wall to rebuilt of Mutianyu. The Free Beijing tour is well worth while, seeing parts of the city you wouldn’t normally get to see. Being in the evening makes it even more special, especially the stories of the Forbidden city. Then we did the sunset tour, this again was part wild wall and part rebuild. The views were stunning, and the wall was very quiet so the pictures we took are unbelievable. Really this tour cannot be missed, I would say to anyone looking at tours of the wall this must be the one! Finally Leo is brilliant. All around great guy, extremely knowledgeable and wants to teach people of China's history. Its a credit to him that he takes the Beijing tour for free as he has such a passion for teaching and China's history.

My family and I recently visited China for a week. We had 2 full days in Beijing. We were with Leo the first day of our trip. Leo worked with us every step of the way to maximize our limited time in the area. He arranged for a car to meet us at the airport and take us to our hotel the evening we arrived. The next morning we met him at 7 a.m. to start our day in Beijing. We had told him that we wanted to see both the restored Great Wall and the more wild portions of it.
He gladly worked with us to make sure we saw everything we requested. He was personable, friendly and knowledgeable—his English was excellent as well. He took care of ordering all the tickets, transportation, water and food. With his help, we were able to see the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, and the Huanghuachen portion of the wall as well. Lunch was included in our deal—he took us to an authentic Chinese restaurant, where we sampled foods that locals enjoy (and he helped us pick the selections he figured we would like as well).
In addition to the Great Wall, we went on a free evening walking tour of the city with Leo. We enjoyed that tour as well. Of all the tour guides we had during our time in China, Leo was by far the best. He is willing to work with you to develop a plan to see what you would like to, and also gives an insider’s insight into China and the area. We were quite pleased with him, and I highly recommend his services. Thanks, Leo!

Amazing!!! Tony was a very prepared and efficient guide and I would 100% recommend. I went on this tour with my daughter and mother; and though my mother had difficulty in trekking to the much higher and steeper areas, Tony made sure to personally assist her and make sure she was alright. We were the only ones who booked this tour on the certain day and the transportation was incredibly comfortable and efficient! We were given sufficient water and the restaurant we ate at also had great food, authentically Chinese. It was a feast!!! Tony can easily conversate in English and we had a wonderful time with him as our tour guide. Both sections of this tour had stunning views. If I could, I would do it all again. Kudos to Tony for such a wonderful tour! It was the highlight of my trip to Beijing. 100% best tour, ten out of ten.

Guide - Leo was fantastic, he's a pro photographer and took some great photos of us on the wall and pointed out good spots to take photographs from. He was very genuine, organised, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Trip - van was very nicely trimmed and comfortable, no wasted time just pit stops to use toilets if needed plus tasty lunch.
Lunch - Leo asked around and ordered a feast for us - all decided on day so if you have requests you can make them.
Wall - Gubeikou was beautiful and we were the only ones on the wall! Jinshanling was perfect after dark, really quiet and stunning. It's the location most of the photos of the wall are taken from - perfect!

Hi! How many persons are there in this tour? And can you pick up at Beijing Zhong An hotel?

Hi! I am traveling with my husband, arriving on Dec 1st to Beijing Airport at 11:20 am. Is there any chance to be picked-up at the airport to do the tour and then dropped-off at the hotel at the end of the tour? If not, do you have any recommendation that allows for this itinerary?
Thank you very much!

Hello, I'm not the tour guide but a fellow traveler who did this tour. I'm sure you could technically pull this off, and Leo and his crew are very accommodating.
However, I'm not sure how enjoyable it would be for you if you are flying long distance. The hike is pretty physically exhausting - not so much the distance, but getting up to both walls in the first place and then Jin Shan Ling's up and downs all together can be very demanding. Expect it to be a very full day (we were picked up at 11 and got back to our hotel at 9:30 PM).
