What to expect
There are great efforts that go into protecting this species as the numbers have drastically declined over the years. Seeing these amazing mammals in their natural habitat as they roam freely spending the majority of their days eating plants is a once in a lifetime experience to be cherished forever.  Itinerary: Day 1: Kigali – Bukavu This morning, you'll be picked up from your hotel and drive to Bukavu (approximately 5 hours). We will cross the border and overnight in the hotel near the Park. (Overnight at Lodge Coco) Day 2: Bukavu – Kahuzi Biega National Park After the breakfast From here, we will take the vehicle and drive to Kahuzi Biega National Park precisely in the southern part at Chivanga. Once we arrive at the National Park Headquarters, you will be briefed by the Park staff and prepare for the day. We can enjoy a quick cup of coffee here before we enter the park. Today we will be accompanied by armed Park Rangers as we embark on our Eastern Low Land Gorillas trekking.   A typical visit will start with a 1-2 hour trek, in search of the Gorillas. After the trekking, we will drive to Lwiro where there is the Scientific Research Center which was built in 1947 by Belgians.  Here, you'll have a chance to visit the Chimps’ sanctuary, the museum, the library, the biodiversity room, and snakes in cages. Around 1 pm this afternoon, we will enjoy lunch together at a local restaurant in Lwiro. This evening, we will retrieve back to Lwiro Guest House where accommodation is on a sharing basis Accommodation: Lodge Coco and dinner. Day 3: Bukavu – Goma After an early breakfast, around 7 am, and check-out at the Guest House,  we will drive to Chiwanaga to witness Pygmy tribe fishermen who will demonstrate cultural dance and songs. At 10 am we will drive back to Bukavu and cross back to Rwanda. After that we will make our way back to Kigali.
