Overview
The former capital of the Ottoman Empire, Istanbul is a vibrant city filled with magnificent architecture and a rich history as the bridge between east and west. Perfect for first-time visitors, this in-depth guided walking tour covers the main attractions while also venturing to hard-to-find secret spots. Leave the navigation to your guide, who also provides illuminating commentary.

After meeting your guide at Sultanahmet Square, head off on a scenic stroll through one of the world’s most spectacular cities. Your guide will tell stories from the heyday of Byzantine and Ottoman rule as you wander the picturesque streets. This tour aims to give you an overview of the city, its historic attractions, museums, foods and eateries, local arts and traditions etc. *We are actually visiting Grand Bazaar and Spice Market but don't visit Museums and/or Palaces inside.
Highlights
  • Take an in-depth guided walking tour through Istanbul
  • See popular attractions like Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and the Spice Market
  • Discover under-the-radar local sights with your guide
  • Hear stories about the golden ages of Byzantine and Ottoman rule
What to Expect
After meeting your guide at Sultanahmet Square, head off on a scenic stroll through one of the world’s most spectacular cities. Your guide will tell stories from the heyday of Byzantine and Ottoman rule as you wander the picturesque streets. You'll make your way through all the main historical highlights, from the sixth-century Byzantine cathedral of Hagia Sophia—famous for its stunning gold mosaics—to the Spice Market, which boasts more than 100 shops. But your guide will also show you less visited attractions. Take a peek at Caferaga Medrese, a 16th-century madrasa that is now a handicrafts center. You’ll also discover local haunts and learn where residents of the diverse, sprawling city go for the best Turkish coffee.

We did the Free Walking Tour with Erol and found it very good!! Erol knows a lot about history and culture and loves to share it. Try to do the tour at the start of your visit. Very recommendable!

Our meeting point was close to Basilica Cistern. Cost was indicated on TripAdvisor and was minimal- idea being to tip the guide what you feel the tour was worth.
