Overview
Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple are two of Sri Lanka’s top sights, but impossible to visit in one day by public transport. This private tour from Colombo, Negombo, Mount Lavinia, Kandy, or Kalutara takes you to both in a day by private air-conditioned vehicle. Explore Sigiriya’s fifth-century rocktop ruins and visit Dambulla’s Buddha-filled caves, all with insights from your driver-guide, and with lunch and admission included.
What to Expect
Book your required tour option and after early-morning pickup from your Colombo, Negombo, Mount Lavinia, Kandy, or Kalutara hotel, make the roughly 4-hour journey to Sigiriya by private air-conditioned vehicle.
Marvel at Sigiriya Rock, a granite outcrop rising from scrubland areas that transform into water gardens during the rainy season. Then, climb the metal steps to the rocktop: home to a ruined fifth-century fortress. View the frescoes en route and explore the relics on the summit, the remnants of a royal citadel built by King Kasyapa.
After lunch at the Oakray Restaurant in Inamaluwa, visit the UNESCO-listed Rock Temple of Dambulla: five hill caves converted into a temple in the first century BC and filled with Buddha statues. Inspect the caves with their stunning wall and ceiling murals as your guide shares Dambulla's history.
Your trip finishes at the original departure point.

Interesting visit

Enjoyed climbing to the top which felt quite an achievement. Very busy so go at a slow pace following the crowd. Interesting museum and scenic walk up to the rock itself past crocodiles in the moat. Watch out for the helpers, a polite no thanks...More

WOW! That's all I can say. Both Sigiriya Rock and the temple at Dambulla are incredible. Whilst my driver, Dinesh was knowledgable, understanding and safe. Firstly he was a superb driver in all the Colombo traffic and on-time. As a solo female traveller, I wanted...More

Must do but mind the 'helpers'

We really enjoyed the climb and the views even though we struggled big time in the heat. (noon!).Our tour guide told us to refuse the guides unless we wanted one. After getting rid of some of them we were walking up the gardens before any...More

Good Trip to Sigiriya and Dambulla Cave Temples

We enjoyed this tour, even though the car ride there and back was 4 hours each way, making it a very long day. Our driver was great, he chatted to us about the Sri Lankan countryside and smaller towns along our journey and gave us...More

It’s going to be a late day, even ending in Dambulla. This trip is geared toward round trip from Colombo. Have you considered arranging only transport from the airport to your hotel...then a local guide for Sigiriya? That... More
