About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- caseyn4350 contributionsExcellent bike tour of old city!Great bike tour, we did the half day and it went from 9a-2p since none of us on the tour had plans immediately after. Our Guide (Thew) spoke excellent English and shared both personal stories and local history. He also took great pics for us! We biked about 10 miles, almost entirely flat / non strenuous, and I was amazed at how well local cars / tuk tuks / motorcycles yielded to our group of bikes. The company provides waters, helmets, bikes, and our group got smoothies in the middle of the tour. Really great way to see the old city!!Written 9 January 2025
- Applesandangels0 contributionsUnreliable. Find another tour group.Terrible. Find another tour group. This company is not reliable and was a disappointing NO SHOW for our last morning in Chiang Mai. We had changed the date of our bike tour through Trip Advisor but apparently this local bike tour company never processed the date change. The tour company representative was very polite and apologetic and assured me of a full refund, but our last precious morning of vacation was lost to us. I had messaged the company directly a few days earlier asking what sights would be included on the tour - with no response from them. This should have been a Red Flag to me that there is no administrative back up . They likely have good guides … but clearly confusion and inept back office operations didn't communicate customer logistics.Written 6 January 2025
- shanab3910 contributionsAmazing experienceHad the chance to be in a private tour since I was the only one. My guide was very knowledgeable and I learnt a lot, she took me to many temples and was super friendly. She explained the history of everything as we went along. I highly recommend her and this beautiful tourWritten 19 December 2024
- connie0130 contributionsAn amazing experienceGreat biking tour. Our tour guide Kitty was the absolute best. He really provided a lot of information and was a joy to ride with . He took excellent care of our group. I would highly recommendWritten 30 November 2024
- 717simonc0 contributionsGoodWe enjoyed this activity and learning the history of Chiang Mai – and Thailand, although this is probably more accurately described as a history tour with some cycling as the biking bit was pretty minimal – we could have done with a longer tour pointing out a few other places. It was fun zipping down the tiny alleys and stopping inside an original market to sample the local smoothie and other stalls. A little more of this authentic interaction would be even better.Written 28 November 2024
- AAD880 contributionsAMAZING TOUR, MUST DO!!!We had the BEST TIME during this bike tour. Our guide was GREAT!!! It is an absolute must if you want to visit the Old City. There are so many tiny streets that biking with a guide through them is a must. She was also very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the culture and the temples. Do not hesitate to book this!!!Written 27 November 2024
- rodwinsonc0 contributions10 out of 10 would recommend! What an incredible adventure! Our tour guide, Farm, was a wealth of knowledge and made the experience truly unforgettable. Not only did he share fascinating insights, but he also ensured that we stayed safe on the road throughout the journey. It was a perfect blend of fun and learning!Written 5 November 2024
- ashleylH7482JP0 contributionsSurprise VIP tourDoing trips in the off season, the fun part is getting a surprise solo trip. I got to do this bike ride just me and farm. He was a great guide really accommodating and friendly. The views are amazing. Some times i was so nervous riding i had to remind my self to enjoy the scenery that i was riding through. It rained during most of the ride but that did not take away how fun it was to still do it. I think the added plus of it raining is that i didn’t have to deal with the heat. But this is the second i have done a bike tour and it rained on us so now it’s going to be my theme travel to do a bike tour and hope it rains on me. Overall the bike ride was easy the hardest or scariest part really is just the start becuase you bike through the old city just getting use to the different side of the rode and bike but Farm was really good at making sure i was good and watching out for traffic. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for something active and seeing a more calmer country side of the area.Written 21 September 2024
- ssncf0 contributionsGreat tour to explore Chiang Mai's old townThe date for my initial booking was already full, so had to do the tour the next day. I ended up having a private tour with my amazing local guide Bom. Bom explained the different chapters of the history of Chiang Mai as well as the Lanna Kingdom. The tour was very well organized and I learned a lot about the rich culture of the city. Additionally, I liked going through the different alleys with the bike that I would not otherwise pass by.Written 28 July 2024
- brandonhL9100UX0 contributionsBest way to see the Old City in the heart of Chiang Mai. Informative, personal guide made for a wonderful ride.Had the BEST time seeing the old city in Chiang Mai with James. This was my first bike tour and the bar has been set high. James kept the energy up but never exhausted us. It felt like he really knew the city personally and made the whole experience amazing. Kicking off our stay in Chiang Mai with this gave us a familiarity with the city to make the rest of our stay much more confident in navigating the cozy streets and alleyways. The whole journey was well paced so as to keep us moving but not so fast as to feel rushed. Our guide took the time to explain the history and significance of each of our stops. James was also great at keeping us safe while riding. He was attentive to others on the road and the bikes were in great condition and easy to ride. All in all, this was one of the highlights of our time in Chiang Mai, and an experience we will for sure be doing again on our next visit.Written 19 June 2024
- 867ashleighl0 contributionsA fantastic evening cycling around the Old City! This was a wonderful way to explore Chiang Mai Old City. We zipped through the back streets, gaining a deeper knowledge of local life, stopped at beautiful temples and ate at a local market. We were catered for being pescatarian eaters. Our guide A was super knowledgeable and kind. Thank you!Written 14 March 2024
- MondRay0 contributionsFun cycling the back alleysSuper fun 4 hours of cycling Chiang Mai’s back alleys. Our guide Ae was exceptional. Bikes were great. Felt very safe. Thai drivers are kind and accommodating for cyclists on the very few times we were on the road with them. Was so much fun we will do again next time we are here.Written 3 March 2024
- Compass7621410 contributionsBeautiful morning in Chiang Mai.The bike ride was easy and we meandered through beautiful streets and alleyways off the beaten track. Our guide “A” was knowledgeable and fun. The food she introduced us to was delicious. She was really knowledgeable about everything she showed us. We got to be a part of a Buddhist chant and a few other extras that we happened by. I highly recommend. Also, the bikes were good quality which was nice.Written 21 February 2024
- H6300UHsamanthag0 contributionsNot worth the moneyThe guide who took us was a very poor communicator and managed the time poorly after we had some punctures and lost a lot of time when he went off to a repair shop which he didn’t tell us about but just disappeared for 40mins. He also had no idea how to change a tyre and no extra spares once we had used the 2 spares so we were lucky not to have any further punctures. My partner changed the tyres in the end. One of the e-bikes also did not work properly. They also mixed the trip with people on e-bikes and people without e-bikes and as the terrain was all flat, the e-bike option was too fast for the non e-bikes to keep up with the e-bikers so we did not use the e-bikes which we had paid extra for. The countryside was mainly unremarkable as we got a train to a suburb just outside of Chiang Mai which really wasn’t that interesting and the cycle through the farmers fields was very dull - flat boring countryside and still built up with new housing estates. We saw a couple of temples but the Guide knew very little about them although he tried to answer our questions but his English was not that good and he didn’t know very much. He took us to a basic food cafe and another place for snacks which were also unremarkable and right on a main road which was very unpleasant - we had cycled past many places in quieter lanes. His choices seemed strange. He asked us what we wanted to eat but when we asked what was available, he didn’t seem to know. On a positive, he seemed a nice enough guy and was trying his hardest to make sure we were safe on the road.Written 17 January 2024
- Roam3780090 contributionsPerfect day bike ride!We loved our guide Tee's friendliness, stories about the area and culture, and depth of knowledge. The sites we saw were quite interesting. The entire day was a highlight of our vacation! We wanted a longer ride than just a half day, and this was the perfect length.Written 24 December 2023

I enjoyed getting out of the city and seeing different parts of the countryside. It’s a long day but had sufficient stops and spaced out nicely in my view. Lunch at a local restaurant was delicious as were the other snack stops. There wasn’t much explaining about the places we visited so it would be nice to include more of that, although I did really enjoy learning about the history of Thailand and the people from our guide Gun on the train journey. It might be worthwhile having a guide at the back of the group as not everyone cycles at the same speed (I’m not sure if they do that with bigger groups as there was only 4 of us). Also I would have liked to have some time to walk around (even 10-15mins) at the local market we cycled through.

Gun was our guide for the Full Day Countryside Bike Tour, and it was a great day out.
Fantastic mix of good cycling, sightseeing and culture.
It was hot, but we never cycled for more than 30-40 minutes in one go before a stop at a Temple, restaurant, coffee shop or village.
Our group comprised different nationalities, ages and abilities, but Gun was excellent in keeping us all together and happy.
Lots of interesting explanations about local history, culture and Buddhism.
The best thing was being able to explore outside of the city centre.
Definitely recommend it.

My husband and I really enjoyed our one-day bike tour with Gun, who was an excellent guide. We loved riding through the quiet back streets of Chiang Mai to get to the train station. There we boarded with our bikes for a half hour ride into the countryside to start our tour. We rode along mostly flat roads and visited temples, rice fields, and a field where local people were harvesting longans. This friendly group pressed bunches of longans on us in a gesture of hospitality. Gun identified trees and plants, and even made a mini Thai salad from ingredients along the road.
Lunch was a bowl of khao soy from a little restaurant. We ended the bike trip at a meditation center in a forest with a short tour of a historic stupa. The van was there to drive us back to Chiang Mai, a trip that took 30 minutes.
We essentially made a 36 mile tour of the countryside surrounding Chiang Mai. The roads were mostly small and quiet, and when we did approach an intersection or busier street, Gun carefully guided us. Grasshopper Tours is a professional company that provides interesting itineraries and fun, capable guides. We will use them again in our travels in SE Asia.

We had a fantastic day with Gun who took great care to ensure our safety and fun. The route is off the busy roads, but you still see so much of the countryside and villages. Gun taught us history and cultural insights that helped provide context to what we were seeing. He also has a great sense of humor that made us comfortable and enhanced the fun. 63km may sound like a long ride, but the stops along the way to visit Wats, farms, rice patties and lunch were perfectly timed to break it up. Before you know it, you are back in the city eating a coconut ice cream cone at the final Wat. Great day Gun, Thank You!

Chiang Mai's crowded streets and car exhaust make google Maps useless for enjoying a bike ride. Discova tours, aka Grasshopper tours, can serve you up with a great bike and gear and lead you through the shaded, back streets of the city. Leaders will guide road crossings and get you to the CM station for the short train ride to Lamphun. There, you can see Wat Hari Punchai, one of the oldest and most historic temples in the north. After that, cruise along a Greenway next to the river, enjoy a great lunch and head to the ban Sawai handicraft shade and prepare for the last leg. Our leader, James, shares some of the remarkable history of the Lanna, Siam, and other cultures predating the unified Thai state. If it's too hot, the tour can be shortened an hour or so, and the vehicle will come and take you and the bikes back to the Discova office. There is a lovely, shaded park like space there where you can enjoy a drink or food, and possibly plan your next adventure.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your bike tour through Chiang Mai and Lamphun. It’s great to know that our guides and the route helped you navigate the city’s bustling streets and explore its hidden gems comfortably.
We’re especially glad that you found the visit to Wat Hari Punchai and the Greenway cruise enjoyable. It’s fantastic to hear that James provided insightful historical context and that the flexibility of the tour, including the option to shorten it if needed, contributed to a positive experience.
Thank you for highlighting the park-like space at our office—it’s a pleasure to offer a relaxing spot to unwind and plan future adventures. We look forward to welcoming you back for more explorations!

We had a great day with our guide Gun. Starting out from the old city, we rode a short distance then got on a local train. Half an hour later we hopped off, and our countryside tour began. We made several scheduled stops at various places, and several lore impromptu stops when we saw something of interest. Gun was always happy to answer questions and point out interesting things along the way.

Farm took us on a fantastic adventure through the Chiang Mai countryside. He is a knowledgeable, experienced guide and did an excellent job guiding us safely through city traffic to the Chiang Mai train station, from which we went to Lamphun. From there, we biked to a temple, learned about buddhist traditions, then biked between farms and fields, a nice roadside lunch at a local food stall, a woodcutting village, and an excellent coffee shop. The route was peaceful, pleasant and fun, and Farm’s local knowledge, friendly attitude and fun spirit made it an unforgettable adventure. Do yourself a favor and experience the Chiang Mai countryside this way- you’ll get great exercise, support locals, and have a lovely time with your tour group.

Our guide for the day was Gun, and he was absolutely superb. We were able to start our tour with a visit to several old temples about a half hour train ride south of Chiang Mai. Gun brought was thorough and had many good stories. He also led us through fields and made frequent stops to explain the various fruits and wild plants, sampling where possible. I was so glad I was part of this small group, and got to learn so much more about Thailand through this amazing guide.

I was lucky enough to be the only person on my tour with Farm, an excellent guide. He told me a lot about the region, and pointed out plenty of birds and livestock for me when I told him I liked animals.
This is not a tour for someone who isn’t fit; 55km is a long cycle, and it’s not easy, comfortable roads. However the areas are mostly so quiet and tranquil, that even though you’re really getting a work out it’s peaceful too!
Stopping at a few temples and learning more about Buddhism was an added bonus.
Please note that about 1/4 of the ride is on city streets and while it’s not Bangkok you should still be confident about riding around traffic. I never felt in danger though, and Farm had great communication all day.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Farm as your guide on the cycling tour. We're delighted to hear that you had a unique and personalized experience, being the only person on the tour.
It's wonderful that Farm provided you with insightful information about the region and made sure to highlight birds and livestock, knowing your interest in animals. We appreciate your acknowledgment of the added bonus of visiting temples and learning more about Buddhism during the tour.
Understanding that the cycling route may be challenging and not for everyone, we're glad you found the areas quiet and tranquil, providing a peaceful atmosphere despite the physical effort.
Your note about a portion of the ride being on city streets is valuable information for future travelers, and we're pleased to know that you felt confident and safe with Farm's excellent communication throughout the day.
If there are specific highlights or details you'd like to emphasize, or if you have plans for future adventures, feel free to let us know. We look forward to being a part of your future travel experiences.

An excellent immersion into everyday country life. We toured some of the city and then took the train south to the Lamphun region. Saw a silk loom operation (from silkworm to bolts of fabric), took many back alleys and roads to see water buffalo, livestock, many chickens and roosters, discussed northern funeral practices, ate northern Thai food (Khao soi), and saw the glorious bright green rice fields. I’ve never seen a rice patty operation so that was very interesting.
The numerous temples we saw were just lovely. The Thai people never cease to amaze me - many along the way giving us a head nod or practicing hello on us foreigners.
Our guide Chu (sorry about the spelling) was incredibly affable, welcoming, and had many great stories to share. We felt like he was an old friend after the day was over.

Will we get the money back or what do you do in this case?
Thank you for a short answer! A.

Hello,
I’ll arrive on Chiang Mai in July with my family. I’m interested by your trip with bike. However My last son is 7 years old. Is it possible to do the excursion with children ? Thanks.

I am 70 years old in good shape, but don't ride a bike much, am in good condition for hiking do you think this trip would be ok for me. I am traveling with my daughter and granddaughter, don't want to hold them back.

This trip is mostly on flat ground and thr guid is very happy to go at whatever pace you need. My mum, who strugles with riding, found it a very relaxing and comfortable experience. I think that it would be a fantastic experience for you and your family.

Is the full day tour suitable for children of the age of 10 and almost 8? They can ride the bike very well and also follow instructions well.
Written 1 May 2018
Absolutely not. I would have been terrified to have my children riding bikes on this tour. My husband (very experienced cyclist) and I both felt very unsafe in the city traffic, see my review.
