Overview
Get a taste of Taiwan’s long and storied tea culture on our full-day scenic guided tour of two spectacular tea growing areas just outside of Taipei City. First we'll ascend via gondola into the lush Maokong hills where we'll visit tea farms and meet revered tea masters. After learning a bit about Taiwan's tea history, we'll attend the first of two tea ceremonies, sampling various types of locally grown organic teas. Afterwards, we'll head further into the mountains to explore other tea farms, visiting the beautiful Thousand Island Lake before heading to a second traditional tea house for the afternoon ceremony. Our Tea Culture Tour is the ideal opportunity to unwind and familiarize yourself with Taiwan tea and tea culture. Please note: The Maokong Gondola closes in inclement weather. In the event this happens, we'll substitute a scenic drive through the hills of Maokong for the gondola ride.
Highlights
  • Taipei tour with tea plantation, museum, and ceremony
  • Cultural experience: Learn to brew a pot of Taiwanese tea
  • A great way to get into the countryside beyond Taipei
  • Pickup and drop-off at Taipei hotels for convenience
What to Expect
Meet a driver at your hotel in Taipei and then travel into the Maokong mountains to ride the Maokong Gondola, getting aerial views of tea plantations, teahouses, and mountain scenery. Next, visit the tea museum to get some background on Taiwanese tea, and continue to the Bagua Tea Plantation, passing views of Thousand Island Lake along the way. At Bagua Tea Plantation, see a lush, emerald-green landscape of terraced tea fields, with the chance to taste some locally grown tea (own expense). From there, return to Taipei for a leisurely walk down Shihting Old Street, and join a tea expert for a traditional Taiwanese tea ceremony that offers a fascinating glimpse into an ancient culture. After enjoying your tea and learning how to steep the perfect pot, the day concludes with return transfer to your hotel.

This was by far my favorite tour in Taiwan. It wasn't as exhaustive as my tour of Taipei City. This tour was a bit more laid back as we enjoyed learning about tea plantations, tea processing, the different kinds of tea, and tea ceremonies. The...More
