About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Q9976SYsonjal0 contributionsAbsolutely amazing whale watching and great funThis whale watching trip was absolutely stunning! I had booked one and ended up going on three. Each one was different - although I always went at 7am. We saw baby whales breaching, observed a mama and baby pair very close to the raft (baby even swam almost under the boat!), listened to whale songs on the hydrophones. On my last trip we saw a large competition pod of about 15 males - circling the raft and swimming right under it! You know that it’s special when the crew takes pictures… I really appreciated the rafts coming close to the whales while fully respecting the necessary distances. How the crew managed to find such great opportunities for watching was impressive! I went with Kahi and Ari, Kahi and Kelly and Zach and Mackenna. All those teams were great! Very informative about the whales, great boating and lots of fun. Fully recommend going out with them!Written 18 March 2024
- 446dalew0 contributionsRedline raft whale watchThis tour is a great adventure. We saw an epic battle of whales set to great music selection and hilarious but still informative and scientifically accurate commentary. Come prepared for a fast and furious ride!Written 18 March 2024
- Kathy0230 contributionsFantastic Snorkel Tour of MolokiniTHIS is the way to do Molokini!! It's a super fast/fun 15-20 minutes out to the crater on a small zodiac style craft, plenty of time to snorkel, then a quick trip back. (as opposed to the 5 hour cruises that launch out of the harbor and take more than an hour to get there). Because this is a small boat, you end up ,mooring very close to the crater wall where all the action is. I went on the very early trip and was glad- it can get really crowded with other boats and snorkelers as more boats arrive.. We had a beautiful 45 mins- 1 hour in the water to see all the amazing fish and coral. It was everything I had hoped for. (I vastly prefer this to a previous 5 hour trip I had taken on a very large boat.) The captain and crew were fantastic, and I would do this trip again next time I'm on Maui. A particular advantage to this trip- The weather conditions in Maui mean that some days, you just can't snorkel at Molokini because of wind or waves. With Redline, if they can't get to Molokini, you get your money back and can book another day. With other longer tours, they take you to 'alternative locations'. No money back. If your heart is set on Molokini, (mine was!) that is a huge disappointment. So from my point of view, this is the ideal trip. It is a small bouncy boat, so if you are super motion sensitive, it's not for you.Written 17 March 2024
- LVK50000 contributionsBest day!We were on a 0900 whale watching tour and that day the whales did not disappoint! Mommas/babies/ males…all were quite active. Our guides were both informative and funny. We highly recommend this company!Written 15 March 2024
- LauraCleveland0 contributionsAn awesome outing! The crew was amazing! We saw so many whales in so many sizes. It was truly awesome! I was on the side of the boat that felt more splashes so I was glad to have my rain jacket on. Keep up he great work!Written 15 March 2024
- M3428ZCbenc0 contributionsGreat trip with many whales!Would really recommend this - was fun being on a fast boat so close to the water! Saw loads of whales in a variety of behaviours (competing males, diving pairs, mothers with calves). The guys running the boat clearly knew their stuff about the local waters, and about the whales themselves.Written 15 March 2024
- K6641CGellenc0 contributionsPhenomenal whale-watching experience.Unbelievable experience! The whales were very active and the guides - Josh and Tim - were expert at getting us close enough and explaining some basic whale facts. Highly recommend this company if you want a small, fast boat and an attentive crew.Written 14 March 2024
- JDM11090 contributionsBest part of trip so farThis was a true hilight of our trip The whales in the 7am tour were numerous..we had 12-14 people on the large raft...the crew was informative and great ..highly recomendWritten 12 March 2024
- grantmL4924BR0 contributionsAmazing ExperienceI can't speak highly enough about this whale watching excursion. It was an absolutely amazing experience. We learned so much and saw more whales than I expected. The crew of two were fun and knowledgeable. I will book this trip again next time I'm in Maui.Written 12 March 2024
- R4997FHjonathanh0 contributionsAmazing Experience! The 2-hour snorkeling trip with Redline Rafting was amazing. Zack and McKenna were our tour guides and they were very professional, knowledgeable, and funny. We had the opportunity to snorkel as well as see several whales during our trip to Molokini Crater. We 10/10 recommend Redline Rafting for your snorkeling adventures!Written 10 March 2024
- O4908NXmariav0 contributionsFantastic Whale Watching Trip - Outstanding OperatorsWe have been on several whale watching trips in Maui. This one was by far the most amazing trip we have ever had. The crew at Redline Rafting is outstanding, professional, and well informed. We learned a lot and were fortunate to have some of the most amazing multi-whale encounters we've ever seen. If you enjoy a fun & fast boat with a small group, this is your ride! We will definitely book with them again.Written 9 March 2024
- Jenny S0 contributionsWhales and more whales!!My second whale watching trip for this vacation. First time on a raft. Loved it!! Zack and Josh were great, very friendly and informative about safety, whales and the island. We were following a pod of male whales chasing a female whale. Man, wish we could have stayed out there all day. It was amazing!! Whale watching on a raft is the way to go. You can get a lot closer than the bigger boat, and definitely less people on the raft is better! I would definitely go back and do it all day long. Thank you Redline.Written 8 March 2024
- Tiffany B0 contributionsFun and wet whale Excursion!Zach And Jake did a Fantastic job navigating choppy waters, a failed engine, and getting us to see Whales 🐋 We were lucky to see a mom and baby as well as some males competing for a female. Memorable trip and we all got wet which was fun too!!!!Written 8 March 2024
- V1028GRjjs0 contributionsWhoo-hoo Redline Raft Party with the WhalesMy friends & I had a blast with Chase and McKenna on our 11am whale watching tour! Props for the 80's playlist on the raft as we cruised out to the whales. We spotted several pods and saw lots of tails, I was happy all boats in our area stayed a respectful distance for the safety of these amazing animals. Wow I learned alot about whales! Did you know the whales come to Hawaii just for romance? I think it's worth mentioning, as the company said on their website, the ride on this boat is vigorous, like you literally have to hold on and support your own weight at times. If you have a somewhat fragile person in your party this is not the tour for you. We had a If I could do it again I would sign up for the 7am tour rather than 11am. After talking with folks, the early morning hours definitely have smoother water and more whale sightings. Definitely recommend this company, they were very professional and warm.Written 7 March 2024
- gjvn0 contributionsDON'T BOOK WITH THEM Left early without us NO RefundDON'T BOOK WITH THEM. They would not wait 3 min, in fact they left early without us. I called their contact number which they do not answer, only voice mail ( poor communication). So I texted informing them our cruise ship was slightly delayed and we might be a few minutes late. The responded they would tell Capt. We had to pay $63 dollars for Uber to the meet up location. We arrive exactly at 11:03, verifiable from Uber. The dock was only 50 ft. away and their boat was already gone. The company lied to Viator and said we were 35 min late. We have text and Uber records to prove when we arrived. One of their employee's said the Capt. was probably busy and probably did not check his text but what a regular at the pier said was more like they saw an opportunity to take out someone out for cash and pocket the $$$ while denying us a refund. Food for thought. I would not trust Redline bad customer service and communication. Their booking info said they leave at 11, but they left before. There 2 other boats were tied up to dock at 11:03. DON'T TRUST THEM book another company.Written 6 March 2024

My wife and I had a great experience! The crew were very professional, fun, knowledgeable about Maui and the abundant sea life in the area. The conditions at one point weren't ideal (large waves prevented us from going to one of the four main stops), but the captain took us to an alternative spot after gauging how everyone felt (not an easy task with 24 people with differing perspectives on board but he handled it well). During the trip we had a great breakfast, up close encounters with many fish, turtles, and even a whale, and finished off the trip with an excellent lunch. One thing to note, if you have a tendency to get sea sick or have spine or back problems, consider booking on a day where the wind and seas are on the calm side as it can be a rather wild ride. Overall, a very fun adventure indeed!

Tim and Katie did a great job entertaining us for hours, serving a light breakfast and lunch while telling jokes. We snorkeled the Molokini Crater as well as the back side of Molokini and two spots along the Maui coast. Our guides were informative regarding tour aspects and made us feel safe regarding snorkeling activities. Would 100% book again.

I was slightly nervous about booking this trip because the husband has gotten sea sick in the past. Being on a zodiac seemed like a questionable decision but it worked out GREAT ! He did get a little queasy but Jonathan and Mike distracted him with great conversation and he never got sick. The visibility was fabulous and best.of all we got to hear the whales sing while we were snorkeling! Hearing the whales was a "bucket list" item for me so thank you thank you to Jonathan and Mike for bringing us to the perfect location!! I live snorkeling in Hawaii and this trip did not disappoint!! The early morning cinnamon rolls, amazing pasta salad and sandwich spread just put the "icing on the cake" as they say. The smaller group tours are DEFINITELY the way to see Molikini crater ! We were able to spend as much time as we wanted before the hordes of big boats even got there !! Choose this one !!!!

The Redline company provided nothing short of an amazing adventure for our snorkeling trip! The crew was personable with all of us on board and made you feel safe and comfortable.
The weather was not ideal, but we made it to all snorkeling locations and were able to see some wonderful sea life. We were also treated to whales playing while we were going between locations.
Redline lived up to my expectations of a great experience! Don't hesitate to book with this company.

This was an amazing experience, and with Johnny and Allie as our tour guides, we all had an incredible time, and learned as we had fun! We did the 7AM tour, which I highly recommend, as you get to Molokini Crater first, before the hordes of larger boats unload dozens of snorkelers. We were there about an hour, and left as the larger boats were arriving, so we had the waters mostly to ourselves. Molokini crater offers exceptional snorkeling, with crystal clear water and teams of colorful fish swimming and feeding on coral. Because the rafts are smaller, they are able to go around to the backside of the crater, which is another cool spot. Not many fish, but amazing geology to take in. Then we traveled to La Perouse Bay, and the journey was as much fun as the snorkeling, splashing through wave after wave - it felt like a great rollercoaster ride! La Perouse provided a greater variety of fish to swim with. On the way to our last stop, Makena Surf (to see turtles), we spotted some Bottlenose Dolphins, so the pilot took a slight detour, and stopped the boat to allow us to view these beautiful creatures up close, as they kept swimming and diving near our boat. The final snorkel spot at Makena had less clear waters, but did offer a lot of large sea turtles to swim near. I highly, highly recommend Redline Rafting for your snorkel adventures!

We have been on the whale watching trip with Redline multiple times and they always exceed our expectations but this snorkeling trip was way beyond. Mike and Chase are genuinely humble guys with so much knowledge and make you feel like part of their redline family. The group is small so it’s very accommodating and the gear was great. We were first to Molokini and beat the crowds. The back side is a must and will be the highlight of our snorkeling for years to come I am sure. We always recommend Redline and have made their tours a family tradition.

We had the best day snorkelling with Redline. Tim and Kate were informative, and set us up in the best location for viewing fish, coral, whales and turtles. Didn't spend the whole time clustered up with other tours...we were often the only boat in the area and we spotted amazing sea life. Tim's "dad jokes" had us laughing the whole time, and they went out of their way to make sure every person on the boat was having a great time!

If you love snorkeling, swimming, exploring and some adrenaline adventures Redline Rafting 5 hour trip to Molokini and around Maui is the way to go!
Just spent the morning out with the most awesome and friendly team of Tony and Ali, and we all had a great memorable adventure.
With the remnants of a hurricane earlier in the week, we easily switched our tour day to a day later in the week when it seemed winds would be more mild. And they were. It was a beautiful morning out, but bare in mind, even if it's calm inland once you get out towards the crater it will be breezy, wavy, and if anyone in your gang is prone to motion sickness, they are going to get sick early in the trip but once you move in from the crater, and they crank up the speed, with the wind, excitement and drenching of water of everyone on the boat, most of that seasickness will subside.
Also provided sodas and water, a light snack and sandwiches for lunch. Also good quality snorkeling gear and if you need wetsuits. The boat rides in between do get chilly in the wind and surf so may not be a bad idea for some to suit up.
Again amazing trip, and would highly recommend to anyone young and old down for an adventure, but again not for the faint hearted as the race across the waves is a high energy experience and the deep water around the crater may be a little much for some less confident sea swimmers.
Only downer is our daughter getting sick the day before so mom and daughter couldn't make the trip. They have a 48 hr cancellation rule which is understandable, but when asking to maybe get a discount on a future trip or so, the booking person said they cannot do such a thing. Maybe a little flexibility for such scenarios may help with customer relations and goodwill but other than that, the ones of us that got to go on the trip had a bunch of fun.
Thanks guys!

Tim and Mike were our guides for this wonderful adventure. It was fun from donning the wetsuits to breakfast, to snorkeling all the spots. The Fish, Turtles, Eels, Spinner Dolphins and yes Whales were so very awesome and a special treat. They did not "Overbook" the craft so it was a small intimate group. Everything was clean, in good shape and well maintained and the crew was very diligent with safety. Lunch was fresh and tasty and well earned from all the snorkeling! Highly recommend this trip, great value for the $$.

It’s a small boat so not a ton of people. The cheaper tours you’ll find only go to the crater but this tour will take you to the crater, backside of the crater, pinnacle, and turtle town.
The breakfast cinnamon rolls and sunrise was a nice touch.
One of the crew members even jumped in and pointed out a few fish and coral and told us about them.

Yes. It was very well run and we felt quite safe. It does get rough out on the water when moving from spot to spot. It was bumpy.

Do you have to be a strong swimmer to join this tour? is this tour okay for beginners? I like that they go to 4 different locations. Out of 4 locations, which has the roughest wave?
We're 2 adults and 1 teen, can swim but never snorkel. Plan to learn snorkeling before the trip.

I’m 72 and I went. I’m comfortable in the water, a good swimmer but nit strong. Way easier to snorkel from
This boat than battle the waves and handle your gear from the beach.

I see the itinerary shows #2 as the starting point. So the raft boat will not go to Turtle town directly Molokini?
Sona_G81

The itinerary on TripAdvisor isn't the correct one. you can see details on the provider's website. Go to redlinerafting website & select "five-hour-molokini-and-south-maui-snorkel". You can see stops either in the "details" sections or the map that shows stops with photos.
Here is what the details section says -
(1) Be one of the first boats in the morning to snorkel Molokini Crater where visibility often exceeds 180ft.
(2) Snorkel the back wall of Molokini, a place very few visitors ever get to see.
(3) Stop at La Perouse Bay to search for the Hawaiian spinner dolphins that call the bay home.
(4) We conclude our tour with an up close and personal encounter in the water with the protected Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle.
So to answer your question, Turtle town is the last stop. I did this tour in March 2022 & can attest that the website description is accurate. Have fun!! This operator is one of the best on the island.
Hi, what is the fee for a five year old child to go with us? Is he even able to come with us? And if our 9 year old wants to go but not snorkel is it still $204? Thank you!

I think there might be reduced rate for 5 year old. There are fast rafts and there are also bigger boats, so you may have to see what might be best for your family. There is red raft , and blue raft, and few big boats.
Are their life jackets available for snorkeling?
Is their a guide in the water ?
How is the mouthpiece sanitized between used?

They had flotation belts. I used one and found it very helpful. The guides were not in the water with us. Perhaps one of them could go in with you. They were very "watchful" of our group and helpful getting in and out of boat.

Hi! We are planning our family trip to Hawaii during March this year. We are wondering about whether whale watching is included in this tour? Thank you!

The tour that we took was for snorkeling only because we are watching season did not start until January 15. However on our way out to the snorkeling adventure, we spotted a couple Wales. But this was actually not the whale watching trip, they do have a whale watching trip which was approximately the same cost.

I agree with Nate above. I would call some dive shops directly on the island(s) you plan to visit. I'm sure that some accommodations could be made for your husband. I found some good info when I googled "paraplegic snorkeling on Maui ". TA won't allow me to attach links.
