Cross the border to Guatemala with help from the guide
Coordinated transport and tour make the most of your time
Enjoy a provided lunch within Tikal National Park
Convenient pickup and drop-off at San Ignacio hotels
What to expect
Visit one of the largest and most important Mayan sites in all of Central America. Your professional guide will pick you up at your San Ignacio hotel for the drive to Tikal National Park. You will be assisted in all border crossing procedures to enter Guatemala safely. Be sure to bring your passport. Once inside the park, let your imagination run free as you explore highlights among more than 3,000 structures that archaeologists have excavated so far. Learn about daily life and religious practices of the ancient Mayans while wandering through the maze of the Central Acropolis, and envision the excitement of an elite sporting match in the ball courts. Tikal boasts an array of magnificent ceremonial temples. Climb the steep staircase of the 144-foot (44-meter) Temple of the Grand Jaguar, built to honor a Mayan king. A set of twin pyramids with altars will greet you at complexes Q and R. Marvel at the Temple of the Masks, which was once adorned with intricate ceremonial mask carvings. Perhaps most impressive is the oft-photographed Temple IV, also known as the Double Head Serpent. After a refreshing lunch break inside the park, satisfy your inner archaeologist during free time when you can explore the ruins independently. Your guide will then take you back to Belize and drop you off at your San Ignacio hotel.

Great tour, but a lot more walking/hiking than expected.
Mar 2020 • Family
We were very lucky to have an expert birdwatcher as our guide, who took us off the beaten trail quite a bit and had a wealth of knowledge for us. Not many reviews nor the summary of the tour really prepared us for how physically demanding this would be. My Fitbit has the day at 6.1 miles and my iPhone at 5.3 miles so not sure which is accurate. This wouldn’t of been a huge issue but I was traveling with my 68 year old father, who was expecting to walk a bit and did not climb the temples. He was thoroughly worn out especially the last hour or so and the guide seemed to be a little impatient with his slower pace at the end. All in all we were happy to have gotten to do more hiking than walking on big paths, but I probably wouldn’t of booked this particular one if I knew he’d have to hustle so much. Highly recommended, but be ready for hills and hiking.

We had a great guide Yumi who was so personable and knowlegeable. The tour was exceptional. We had a total of 12 people on this tour (all 10 people besides us were fun & insteresting) and she remembered each one of us by name instantly. Lunch was provided and was excellent. The day was packed full of Myan history. All in all this tour was one of our favorites.

Lovely Guided Tour
Jan 2020
Our team made our crossing into Guatemala seamless. Pick up at our river side cabanas and taken to the border to meet our Guatemala guide. Guide and Tikal guide were flexible in adjusting to our groups needs as some of us could climb alot and some were more limited. Lunch was pre-ordered which was really nice to have ready upon our arrival. Guides were knowledgeable of the mayans, some of whom continue to come to the site to worship. We were fortunate to see a ceremony while we were there.

Interesting day at beautiful Tikal
Feb 2020
A little SNAFU with our pickup was the only mild issue. Small group of 3. Comfortable vans for the 2.5 hour drive from San Ignacio. Maryella did a nice job. Somewhat of a minimalistic approach which gave us all the relevant facts with a lot of time for exploration of the complex. Guatemala is a beautiful country, we will be back.

This was a highlight of our holiday!
Jan 2020
We checked in for our tour at the Plaza Hotel on Burns Street the day before as we had booked through TripAdvisor and were a bit confused as to where we were supposed to meet as we were staying at an Airbnb in town and not a hotel. They checked us in for both our scheduled tours to Tikal and Caracol.
Our driver DelRay met us there in the morning and helped us cross the Guatemalan border, explaining the procedure the entire way. We were transferred over a Guatemalan driver who was wonderful (Tony?) He spoke little to no english, but did point out Peten Lago as we drove around it, the largest lake in Guatemala. Then brought us to a small gift shop where we met Rony, our Tikal Guide. Rony was amazing, he was very informative, took us through the site and avoided any crowds. He was patient and funny. We were fortunate to be on a tour where it was just the my husband and I, and Rony made sure we saw everything, including some edible parts of some plants. The meal afterwards was good. Tony whisked us off back to the border and helped us cross out of Guatemala and into Belize and a young man (forgot his name) took us back directly to our Airbnb!
The only warning is this is a lot of area to cover in the limited time given. It is pretty fast paced, so be prepared to "Vamos!"

Educational and entertaining
Jan 2020 • Family
The trip was well organized (despite the pace being busy delays were minimal) and the guides were knowledgeable and eager to answer questions of all kinds, from the present situation in Guatemala to archeological and historic details to questions about plants and animals encountered. The site itself is large, one cannot explore it fully within the time available, but unless you are a history buff, the various pyramids look pretty much the same, so you really do not need to see them all.

Amazing Tikal Tour!
Dec 2019
We loved visiting Tikal! The ride to get there is a little long but we enjoyed the scenery and learning about the area from our Guatemalan guide. Even walking through security and across the border was interesting! We stopped at a local gift shop where our guide showed us a miniature scale layout of Tikal which really helped to give us a frame of reference while at the site as it is so big. Our guide was great in taking us on several side paths and away from the crowds. We were able to see birds and spider monkeys on a couple of occasions. We also learned about the Mayan civilization, the archaeological restoration of the site, and climbed several of the temples as allowed. Overall a great experience! I wouldn't hesitate to book with Belize Family Adventure again.

Superb, temples, palaces, monkeys
You may remember seeing these temples in Star Wars: A New Hope. We enjoyed Tikal a lot. Be aware that this is a guided tour with for the most part. I prefer free roaming. However once you get to Tikal you know why you need a guide, it is a bit of a maze

A very educational trip with amazing views
Dec 2019 • Couples
Our tour ended up being just my wife and I. It was an amazing trip - lots of walking and hiking. We saw monkeys and birds that were new to us. The temples and Mayan ritual grounds were amazing. Definitely glad we did the trip!

Shoutout to our guide in Guatemala, Christian. He was able to tailor the tour to our liking and didn’t force us to go to places we didn’t feel comfortable with. We learned so much about Mayan history and local culture
