Overview
On this 4.5-hour round-trip tour to Mount Vernon, gain a whole new perspective on U.S. history. On the way, a guide provides fascinating historical background and stories about points of interest in Old Town Alexandria that are often unmarked and easy to miss. While most guided tours stick to rigid schedules, you are free to explore George Washington’s former home at your own pace.
What to Expect

Board the bus at L’Enfant Plaza in downtown DC. Rather than navigating out of the city on your own, sit back and listen to on-board commentary during the scenic 30-minute ride to Mount Vernon, home of George Washington.

During the drive, the guide points out landmarks you may have missed have you come on your own, including General Robert E. Lee’s boyhood home and a tavern once frequented by the Founding Fathers. Enjoy the sights of historic Alexandria from the comfort of the coach as you make your way to Mount Vernon.

On arrival, explore at your own pace. Visit the gardens overlooking the Potomac River, the slave memorial and burial grounds, the outbuildings, and the Washingtons’ tombs. No need to purchase tickets in advance, as they are included in the tour.

About 4.5 hours later, return with the guide to the tour’s original point of departure in Washington DC.

Mt. Vernon Bus Tour

Our driver, Charles Smith, was personable, hilarious, and knowledgeable. It is obvious that he is passionate about his job, and sharing his knowledge of history and the city with his riders. Could not recommend a tour or driver any more than this one!
