Overview
'Ruin bars'—drinking spots in abandoned buildings—are all the rage in Budapest, but exploring them is more revealing with a guide. The tour delivers: taking you into the city’s former Jewish Quarter to visit up to seven bars. Learn about the ruin bar trend, savor the boho settings, and enjoy a drink and snacks in up to five bars. Upgrade to a small-group or private tour with  hotel transfers.
What to Expect
Book your preferred option and meet your guide in central Budapest or at your central Budapest hotel (depending on selected option).

Next, head into the old Jewish quarter to some of its popular ruin bars. These edgy hangouts are so-called for being located in disused pre-war buildings, shops, and courtyards. Hear how the bars are key to Budapest’s nightlife, and learn about their role in revitalizing neglected areas.

Stop at as many as seven of the best bars to soak up their atmosphere and settings, and enjoy a drink and light bar food in up to five as you chat to your guide. Visit everything from semi-derelict warehouses to battered lots decorated with vintage furniture, and get tips from your guide as to drinks and other bars to visit later.

Your tour finishes in the area or, if you’ve upgraded to a private tour, with a hotel drop-off.

Szimpla ruin bar

The only ruin bar we visited, which was recommended by friends. Decor is a tad bizarre as you walk in, and will certainly make you smile. A great place to relax and have a few beers. Will have to check out the others, when we...More

Great time exploring the different ruin bars!

Ferenc was great in bringing us to the different ruin bars. He explained some history behind some of the ruin bars and also taught us about the different Hungarian food! (Goulash is actually a soup! Not a stew!). Had good drinks, food, history, and culture!...More

It is plenty of food for your dinner. Do not eat beforehand. You would never know how to find these places and all the insider ways without the tour. Really, it’s a great time.
