    Cradle Mountain
Stop: 11 hours - Admission included
from in this stunning World Heritage listed area. With around 5 hours to spend in the National Park we leave our walking itinerary flexible to suit our guests and the weather conditions on the day. After departing Launceston we enjoy a short stop in Sheffield – The Town of Murals. Sheffield is a small and quirky village where the history of the Cradle Mountain region is depicted in artworks across the buildings throughout the town, this includes the opportunity to see the famous Eason’s Mural. We continue our journey into the mountains and arrive at Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake with around 5 hours of possible walking time before us. We begin with a series of short walks to Rainforest City and Pencil Pine Falls. From here we can choose from the gentle and iconic Dove Lake Circuit an easy 2 hour walk with amazing mountain views. For the more active, we offer the chance to climb to the loftier heights of Marion’s Lookout. This walk is well rewarded with amazing 360 degree views of the surrounding World Heritage wilderness area. Enjoy lunch by a quiet stream, watch the famous and friendly Cradle wombats in their natural habitat, or enjoy the many photographic opportunities that abound. Learn some of the local history as we visit Weindorfer’s Chalet and see the ancient King Billy Pines on Weindorfer’s Forest Walk. Cradle Mountain is the backdrop for a truly memorable and not to be missed Tasmanian experience. On our return to Launceston, we stop and sample some local tasty products at the award-winning Ashgrove Cheese Factory. We return to Launceston around 6.30pm after a huge yet unforgettable Cradle Mountain day.

I did this tour as part of the 'Big Three' three-day tour from Hobart to Launceston. The day started early picking everyone up from their hotels and heading to the first stop, a place offering coffee and all sort of breakfast/lunch options for eat-in or takeaway. After

I can't speak highly enough about the two days we spent in Cradle Mountain. Spectacular scenery, wildlife and walking trails, which are created so that there is no impact on the environment. Firstly you decide which level of walker you are and then choose what walks you would

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable of the indigenous and modern history of the region. He kept us on a tight schedule which was great so we could maximize the day. He provided additional clothing if we needed it and recommend the trails best suited for our individual needs.

Not that great as our guide Graeme drove like a maniac and didn’t get any guided walks with him. We were under the impression we would have a guided walk with the guide but didn’t happen. Very disappointed as travelled long time to get there and plus weather not in our favour

Response from ManagerToursTasmania, Manager at Cradle Mountain Active Day Trip from Launceston
Responded 4 Dec 2019
Thanks for letting us know about your experience to Cradle Mountain. I am sorry to hear that your experience involved impatient driving and poor service on the day.  It is very unusual to hear that you had a poor experience with our Tour Guide and we will discuss these issues directly with the guide for further clarification.    There is a range of introductory walks when we arrive at Cradle Mountain all of which should be fully guided for you, the conditions on the day can also help to decide which walks the group undertakes.  When we embark on our longer walking options for the day, to either Marion's Lookout, a more difficult hike or the Dove Lake circuit, an easier hike - if the group splits across these walks - generally the guide will go with the group that is considered most in need of the Tour Guide's expertise at the time.  Our guides are there to help our guests who wish to challenge themselves and achieve a highlight hike for their visit to Cradle Mountain.  This sometimes means that the walkers doing the easier Dove Lake circuit, may do the majority of this walk on their own, while the guide assists the participants heading to Marion's Lookout.  The guide is often running (not hiking) between groups of people at Cradle Mountain ensuring all is well.   It is unfortunate to hear that you chose not to walk at all on either of these hikes and returned to the Visitor Centre instead.  We had a number of walkers do the Marion's Lookout hike on your tour day, and a couple of hikers do both Marion's Lookout and also the Dove Lake Circuit, despite the weather being wet.  Our guests who were under-prepared for the day out had free use of our rain jackets, beanies and gloves that we provide to help get everyone out on the tracks.

I was pleased to discover this tour was available, as Cradle Mountain is a long way west of Launceston, but it's worth the long drive (especially if someone else is doing the driving). The stop at Sheffield is definitely worth it, the painted murals impressive. We had 4 hours
