Club Lounge Heaven
Just had to say what a fabulous experience the Club Lounge was on the Kaitaki. Afternoon sailing. Lunch was served shortly after boarding. Beautifully cooked food. Fresh and plentiful. Curry both meat and vegetarian. Chicken drumsticks. Mussels. Rice which was superb. Salads. All of the very best quality. Afternoon tea was served around an hour and a half later. Cakes galore again all beautifully prepared. Fresh coffee and tea and of course an abundance of cold drinks both alcoholic and non. The 2 waiters were excellent. Charming polite and extremely well prepared to offer the very best service. The chairs were supremely comfortable. And well spaced. The ambiance was quiet and peaceful. My only gripe would be having to look out of the windows at the smokers deck directly outside. Such a shame to see that. Can you not put the deck somewhere else or just ban smoking on board? Surely they can do without a fag for 3 hours. They do on planes. Anyway the Club Lounge us a fabulous place to relax and enjoy. We will be back. And of course all the food drink etc is included in the club lounge ticket price. It’s worth every cent.

Good Service

The staff were polite and helpful and the viewing deck on Level 10 was a wonderful place to observe the scenery. I must admit, I spent a great deal of time up there.

Great experience
Sep 2021
Booking was super easy online and when I had to an extra person 2 weeks before departure all it took was a phone call and done. Arrival and vehicle check in was super easy too - excellent staff on duty, helpful, professional, friendly and patient. Boarding was fast and easy. Went up to the lounges and everything (including toilets) was super clean and spaced appropriately for social distancing. Went through for food and that was rather disappointing considering the prices. Serving staff were friendly but when no customers they were making a huge noise, laughing and joking at the top of their voices - some fun and chatting is fine but the noise was really unnecessary. The other thing that made me really annoyed was as we were pulling into the dock at Picton, an older passenger was not aware that the curtains in front of the large windows could not be opened and a staff member walked over to her and in a very loud voice scolded her for opening the curtain. That was inappropriate and should've been handled discreetly. Interislander should be selecting and training their staff better!!!! These actions overshadow the good work the other frontline staff and booking agents are doing :(

DO NOT add the insurance
Aug 2021
Due to COIVD my trip was cancelled. I can not fault Interislander but I struggle to see why they associate themselves with a useless, dodgy and impossible to contact travel insurance partner. Chubb refuse to give refunds that people are entitled to and after a phone call which seemed productive and multiple emails they are now ignoring all contact.
Interislander do yourself a favour and chose a different insurance partner that actually has some moral compass and ethics.
I look forward to attempting the journey again but DO NOT add the insurance. Absolute waste of money.

Kia Ora Bekind, Thank you for taking the time provide us with your feedback. Chubb is our third party agent for anyone wanting to purchase add on insurance for their trip via our website. Customers can also seek out other insurance providers if they don’t wish to use them. I can’t comment on their policy’s, however depending on when your travel was for and if it meets the criteria you could be entitled to a refund from us. Please email our team at bookings@interislander.co.nz with your booking number to enquire about getting a refund. All the best, Kirsten | The Great Journeys of New Zealand

Old tub. No service. Filthy toilets. Had to walk to whole deck in streaming rain. Silly seat arrangements. 1 hour delay. Completely silly boarding organisation. Very worst of all ferry services I have been on.

Kia Ora Leo13531, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you didn’t have a good experience travelling with us. I’m unsure what ship you sailed on and when so can’t comment on your specific points here. Our crew though work extremely hard to ensure all customers are looked after and our teams are well drilled experts in boarding all passengers and vehicles. Garbage service. I drove from Auckland to Wellington leaving plenty of time for arrival into Wellington. Unfortunately, there were many roadworks on the journey down, delaying my arrival. I missed the departure by 30 minutes. Spoke to the girl at the counter and explained my predicament..not interested. "Book another ticket". No compassion at all. I booked another ticket alright, on Bluebridge. Steer clear of Interislander..their staff couldn't care less, have no compassion.

Kia Ora, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are sorry to hear you missed your departure. Unfortunately, we do have final check in times which are stated on your ticket as an hour before departure to ensure all passengers are ready for loading and departures so we remain on time. We have a free 0800 number to call when you are not going to make your sailing so we can put you a new sailing you can make. We have very caring and friendly staff who do a brilliant job at looking after our passengers. We hope you made it to your destination safely. Best Wishes, Karen | The Great Journeys of New Zealand

Beautiful scenery, dated ferries with dated infrastructure. The staff onboard as well at the terminals were very pleasant and courteous. Unfortunately you can’t make up for old technology and facilities with good service.

Kia Ora Deba B, Thank you for your feedback on your recent Interislander sailing, we really appreciate it! We definitely sail through some stunning scenery and we are happy to hear you found our crew nice to deal with – I will pass your comments onto them. We operate 3 ships all of which are different, some are newer than others. I can’t tell which one you were sailing on, however we will be getting brand new ships in 2025 which we are all very excited for. All the best, Kirsten | The Great Journeys of New Zealand

Late departure
While we were kept reasonably informed re delays in departure the fact that this was so much a moving target didn't impress.
The cafeteria [under L2 conditions admittedly] was a joke - poorly organised, expensive and uncoordinated. Boarding crew [vehicles] were on top of their game, but need better use of texts, etc, to update waiting passengers.

Great value for money
Jun 2021
Was booked on the 5pm Wellington to Picton Sailing which was delayed by a couple of hours. Staff at the main gate informed me on arrival and I discovered an email advising me of same, it was a pity to miss the sailing during daylight sailing but was still a pleasant trip.

I had a 7.4m long Motorhome, the staff and crew were very helpful and there was plenty of room to manoeuvre it into position.

I paid the extra $35 and had access to the "Plus Lounge" which included an open bar, dinner and snacks and some very comfortable seating. I would book the extra next time, I had a look at the Bedrooms which were available for $40 that included a couple of beds, a bathroom and a desk and they looked good value if you had been driving and needed the sleep.

Excellent service, the ship was clean and well run. Great trip.

A mask wasn't mandatory but was recommended.

Kia Ora, Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback. We are sorry to hear your sailing was delayed and you missed the communications about this. We agree upgrading to the plus lounge, there really is no better way to travel across the Cook Strait. Enjoy some all-inclusive drinks and food whilst you sit back and relax! Our cabins on Kaitaki are also a great option if you need a rest or a private space. Thanks again for travelling with Interislander and we hope to see you again one day!
