Rotorua is one of the most visited towns on the North Island, famous for its geothermal activity and rich Maori heritage. On this tour, take in all the highlights on a day trip from Auckland, including the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute of Te Puia, the Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley, and a guided tour of Rotorua.
What to Expect
After pickup from your Auckland hotel, set out on the around 2.5-hour drive to Rotorua, traveling by air-conditioned minivan and enjoy scenic views of the Waikato countryside.
On arrival, the first stop of the day is Te Puia and the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, where you can watch demonstrations of Maori handicrafts and gain an insight into Maori culture and traditions. Continue to the Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley to discover Rotorua’s otherworldly geothermal landscapes, including bubbling mud pools, steaming fumaroles, and the Pohutu Geyser.
After lunch at a local restaurant, take a guided tour of Rotorua, stopping to admire views of Rotorua Lake and the Government Gardens. Then, either enjoy free time to explore the city independently or upgrade to include a visit to the Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland or a relaxing soak in the Polynesian Spa thermal springs.
Depending on the tour option chosen, either end your tour in Rotorua or return to Auckland, where you will be dropped back at your hotel.

Great tour, terrible tour guide

The tour was fun and the lunch was nice. However our tour guide did pretty much nothing other than driving. She spoke about 10 sentences during 3 hours drive there and sounded like reading from Wikipedia. Didn’t tell you where you are, what you are...More

I did the day trip from Auckland with a work friend. We left early and stopped briefly in Hobbiton to switch vans to head for a polynesian spa, then lunch and exploring at Te Puia and on to Waitamo Caves. We had lots of time...More

Excellent day tour

I really enjoyed this day tour from Auckland city. Though I had to change coaches 3 times, I found the coach driver/guides were very friendly and managed time well despite some heavy showers during the return journey in the late afternoon. Coaches were comfortable. However,...More

Thankyou for your great review - We work hard to offer flexibility at minimum charge - so this does mean changing coaches to maximise the number of people going in the same direction at the same time. We work hard to make sure you do...More

Sorry for the late response. I think in Thermal Wonderland there are some bumpy area and steep steps, but you can choose the easier route. From memory I think it should be okay if she gets some assistance, but might be... More

Hi, quick question. If we want to include Waotapu to this trip, how much do we need to pay more or it’s included? And this trip will drop us back at our hotel in Auckland at the end? Thanks
