After early morning pickup from your Alice Springs hotel in a climate-controlled vehicle, head for West MacDonnell National Park. On your first walk at Simpsons Gap, stop at a natural rock amphitheater, home to the rare black-footed wallaby. Move on to Standley Chasm, where you’ll enjoy morning tea and a stroll under acacias, ghost gums, and cypress pines. At the Ochre Pits, visit a sacred ceremony site for the Arrernte people. Next, head to Ormiston Gorge for a picnic lunch by the water hole before continuing on to the Mt. Sonder lookout, one of Central Australia’s highest points, for epic views and photo ops. Then, cool off with a swim at Ellery Creek Big Hole, and learn about the site’s geology from your guide. The day’s last activity, available as an upgrade in October through March, is a camel ride during sunset. Relax on the ride back to your hotel.

We have just returned from a full day of exploring the West Macdonnell Ranges with our guide Emma. She made the trip interesting with her wealth of knowledge about the area, and went above and beyond with her hospitality. If I were her employer she would definitely be deserving of a pay rise. I highly recommend this tour and if you're considering booking the tour make sure you ask for Emma as your guide. You won't regret it!

This was such a fantastic trip with Emu Run. Our guide, Karen, was so very knowledgable she really added value to what was a brilliant part of the country anyway. Never did you feel rushed although there was a lot to see. The West MacDonnells are a must-visit for anyone visiting Alice Springs - and a reason to go there anyway! There are so many beautiful and interesting places in the West MacDonnells and it takes a full day to really be able to cover them all. In fact, I enjoyed the day so much, I actually returned to some of the places again a few days later. Thank you Karen. Couldn't have had a more knowledgable or friendly guide or one who was dedicated to ensuring her passengers really enjoyed their day.

We were booked with another tour operator who let us down at the last minute. However, we were very happy to have been able to book into this tour through the Alice Springs Tourist Centre. It was a wonderful day in various locations of the Wes Macdonnell Ranges, and the tour guide and bus driver Emma was brilliant. She was very knowledgeable and highly personable and a credit to Emu Run Tours. I would definitely recommend this to tourists in Central Australia.

A fantastic tour and highly recommended for those with limited time in the Alice.

What a shame that Karen ,our tour guide was so abusive to the passengers. She let us know that she used to be a school teacher and her authoritarian admonitions about tardiness and food service protocols were redolent of a school trip. An unfortunate passenger was a few minutes late back to the bus after one stop. The diatribe given was sarcastic and offensive. We all felt terrible for the offenders, and there was a pall of guilt and fear in the bus for the the remainder of the day. A gluten-free passenger was presented with eye rolls and judgemental comments.

Karen stated she had been working 6 days a week for a long time. I think she cared more about getting back to walk her dogs than giving us a good experience.

Emu Run, please give her a break. She is obviously run down, sick of tourists, and needs to recharge. Her knowledge of the area was fantastic, but the surliness, sarcastic and snide remarks were a dampener on what should have been a terrific tour. Apparently she was an hour late the next day and just as grumpy according to other travellers we met with.

Karen, our guide & driver was fantastic. Professional & friendly with a great knowledge of the area. This is a great tour & nice to be taken to all the fantastic sights rather than a long day driving. We did this tour early April, so it was still quite warm, there was water on the bus, to fill up drink bottles at the stops & we were able to go for a swim at 2 locations.
We had a lovely morning tea Standley Chasm, but don't take too long taking photo's as we did as a lot of the morning tea had been eaten - though we still had enough to eat. We also had a nice lunch of wraps with deli meats & salad
I would definitely recommend you do this tour.

This trip was not too bad but I still downvote it due to my bad experience same week with the same company. In the last tour, the bus was full and not even one extra seat was available and I had a very uncomfortable time to stay next to the person on my neighbor seat. My day was ruined and I could not change my seat. The company is careless on me as a customer and I will never ever choose this company anymore. My downvote will at least help the other people.

Great day out!! My husband, our 15-year-old son and I did the West Mac tour. fantastic day. the tour moved at just the right pace and we covered a lot of ground without finishing the day exhausted - the tour had just the right amount packed in. Karen our guide was very knowledgeable and approachable. We are so glad we took the time to stay a couple of days in Alice and explore the region rather than skipping straight over to Uluru. Can't recommend Emu run tours highly enough!

This was a great experience and a wonderful way to see the country around Alice Springs. Our driver/guide (Karen) was very informative if a bit bossy, and a couple of times wanted to change departure times even though not everyone had completed the experience ie at Simpsons Gap. Lunch was really good, although for some reason there was enough for about twice the number of people.

If you only have a limited time in the Alice Springs area, this is a great Day trip to see many of the sites in the region. The guide was very knowledgeable though angry at some passengers who were late back to the bus and seemed a bit over dealing with tourists.
The food was average though plentiful.
The experiences were great and gives you a taste of the outback leaving you wanting to come back.

I went on this tour in December 2019. Sorry I didn't realise you could leave reviews otherwise I would have done so earlier.

This is a fantastic trip, it was well spaced out with enough time at each place to get a feel for what we were looking at, take pictures etc. The guide we had was a delight and knowledgeable about anything on the northern territory. He spent the whole trip talking about things we were passing, the history of the area and passed on some local indigenous knowledge to us.
Even gave me some advice on where else I can go/see on my trip to the Alice and Uluru.
I will treasure this trip for a lifetime, I just wish I could remember our guides name.

For other people going on trips like this-they pick you up and drop you off at your hotel and there is PLENTY of food provided at the various stops. I'd probably bring a hat, 1L water bottle, sunscreen and other essentials, though I'm pretty sure our tour bus had water too.
