    Failure to return money
I paid (in full) for this trip but due to Covid-19 have been unable to travel. I requested a refund in June 2021 but 7 months later the company has not returned my money. They have even stopped acknowledging my emails. I find this totally unacceptable as they have AU$1854 of my money.

No Refund - company cancelled trip
Made a booking in Aug 2021 of which was cancelled 2 Sep 2021 by the company. Still waiting for refund and keep getting given the runaround by the company. Happy to take the money and acknowledge they need to refund but am still waiting. Have contacted the company multiple times but keep getting blown off , last excuse " I have emailed the finance manager and unfortunately cannot advise you until I hear back". No customer service as that was 2 months ago.

Poor communication and refusal to refund
My sister and I bought a day trip to Litchfield with Wayoutback Safaris at the start of 2020. We weren’t able to complete the trip due to the impacts of COVID but were promised a refund by the company at the time. It is now almost two years later and despite multiple disregarded emails, emails promising that a refund will be issued shortly and no contact phone number - in addition to an email from the CEO asking customers not to post complaints on social media due to the impacts of COVID on the company - we are yet to receive a refund. The company continues to operate, distributing a “skeleton staff” out of office email, all the while bringing out new tour offerings, but refuses to refund customers who are also struggling to contend with the impacts of COVID - the effects of the pandemic have affected the livelihoods of customers in addition to companies. I sympathise with companies struggling at this time but it is not fair to hold onto the funds of customers who are unable to experience a company’s services.

    Seriously poor communication
We booked this tour in April with the border closure refund policy in mind. We paid our balance at the end of August, and just over a week later got an email saying our tour was cancelled. We were asked if we wanted a date change or refund. We asked for a refund. For the next six weeks following this, despite us emailing, messaging, calling etc, we only heard back once. I ended up having to contact NT consumer affairs (speak to Amanda - she was a great help) who provided me with other avenues to pursue. We of course understand that the current time is hard for tourism businesses such as this, however, a little communication goes a long way. Not hearing anything back, we feared we would never see our $4000 and they were ignoring us to be dodgy. I finally got my money back yesterday after saying my next step was to go to VCAT and lodge a legally binding order for a refund. The whole experience was really stressful. Communication would have completely changed the course of how we felt about this situation and what we needed to do to rectify it.

    Disappointed, not as advertised
Taking this tour from Jabiru, we spent around 30 minutes on board driving to pick up other passengers before heading off to the Fall. I say Fall as, although it's advertised as going to Twin Falls - it did not. Twin Falls had been closed all season! No forewarning or price reduction. Onwards towards Jin Jin Falls the air-conditioner broke down. It was a sunny 37 degree day and we had about 90minutes drive time to get to the first stop, a toilet break. Inside the back cabin people were suffering with heat stroke and would have been at least 50 degrees. Had to get the guide to pull over as a young lady was overcome by the heat. Getting off the bus the air outside felt cool even though it was 37°! Another 25mins inside the hot box to get to the Falls felt like hours as the road was terrible, not the tours fault. The walk (read climb) to the Falls after being so hot was very difficult. Then the bus broke down 5mins after leaving the falls, but the guide and others managed to get it back on the road. Back on the hot bus for about an hour or so we met up with a substitute bus which thankfully had working air conditioning. I have requested a partial/full refund on several occasions, without success, as this tour was not as advertised and we had quite a distressing day.

    Authentic Kakadu Experience 10/10
Absolutely amazing and immersive small group experience! They are the real deal. With a max of 16 ppl in a 4wd bus, you’re guaranteed lots of adventure & going off the beaten track. They really know what they’re doing. We did their 3 Day/ 2 Night Kakadu tour. We can’t speak highly enough of our tour guide Leigh. His wealth of local knowledge across land and country, culture and animals was so educational and he has a great sense of humour & such a positive happy energy. He has so much passion and loves sharing everything he knows with his guests. Leigh was also very flexible and accommodating to our needs and the changing weather. Thank you so much Leigh for tweaking our itinerary to make everyone comfortable when it hit 39 degrees and we needed some extra swim time! Thank you so much!

Best tour guide we have ever had.
My husband and I went on the Uluru, Kata Tjuta & Kings Canyon tour in early September 2021. Our guide was Robert (Robbie) and we were very impressed by his enthusiasm, passion, knowledge and consideration of each individual in his care. Robert put our safety first above all else in every situation; he didn’t rush us and he was always trying to make the trip our best experience possible - thank you Robert. We loved all the Spring wildflowers, Aboriginal art and culture, and the magnificent colours and rock shapes. The food on the trip was great and it was a wonderful experience.

    Camping adventure
What a wonderful trip. We travelled with friends and made new friends in our group. The scenery, the companionship, and the fun experiences along the way made it so memorable. But by far the best thing about this trip was Robert our tour guide, he worked tirelessly to show us our beautiful country, to feed us, to encourage us to do things we hadn’t planned (like spend the night in swags) and now we’re so grateful to him for an experience we could have missed. It was a fantastic trip. Thank you Robert. This trip is adventurous but worth it.

    Unbelievable Wayoutback 4WD Camping tour
My husband and I have recently returned from Uluru on this 5 day 4WD camping tour. Whilst the scenery was spectacular it was better than I could have imagined. What a country we live in! Our tour guide Robert Herzog made our 5 days truly memorable. His passion for The Australian outback and his knowledge of our indigenous culture and story telling was remarkable. My husband had some challenges with some of the walks due to bad knees however Robert went out of his way to ensure my husband had a full inclusive experience. Whilst the scenery was amazing Robert as our guide was what made our holiday one to remember. Liz Smith

    Trip of a lifetime
The Ultimate experience. I could not have asked for a better tour. The red center is like another world. Our tour guide Robert was next level. He was so passionate and energetic and showed care for everyone in our group. His knowledge was incredible and his delivery kept everyone wanting to hear more. The only downside was that the time went too fast.

    Real outback, real adventure
My husband and I went on the 6 day outback tour to Uluru and other red centre highlights. It was spectacular. Our guide Robbie was awesome and had so much knowledge and passion about the area and its history. We felt very well looked after. The food was fantastic and freshly cooked every night. Sleeping out in a swag under the desert night sky watching shooting stars with our new found friends was something I will never forget. Can highly recommend!

    Top End Experience
Our 5 day Jabiru Dreaming 4WD tour of Kakadu, Litchfield and Katherine in early August was lots of fun and truly memorable. Our guide Candice was fantastic. Highly capable (incredible 4WD skills!,) very informative about both the landscape and indigenous culture. Her passion for the top end was infectious. Emma our assistant guide was also super helpful and very informative and between the two of them they worked hard to ensure we had a really enjoyable holiday. Candice and Emma would effortlessly produce really great food including lunchtime picnics, ensure we always had ice cold water in our bus each day, a book box we could browse through for reading, and organise beautiful playlists for us to listen to as we observed the amazing landscape roll by our bus windows! Our early starts were certainly worthwhile as it enabled us to get to see the most amazing sites without other tour buses or travellers. There's something rather mystical driving at sunrise and sunset. The camp sites were clean and comfortable in caravan and camping sites which had great amenities including bars and swimming pools and most importantly clean showers and toilets! Our individual packs containing sleeping bags, towel and sheet was easily organised. My advice is that if you are seeking a really memorable and enjoyable experience, in the company of like minded enthusiastic travellers , then I highly recommend this top end experience.

    Liars, scammers, don't care
SCAMMERS. We booked this tour and found out on the day (with the rest of the tour) that Twin falls had been closed for over 2 months prior. The company and the tour guide did not care, even though their terms said they would offer an alternative. They offered no alternative and took our money for both falls. They are in breach of consumer laws through misleading and deceptive conduct.

We had a feeling that the 3 day Gaonna Dreaming safari was going to be good but we certainly weren't prepared for just how good. Gus, our guide extraordinaire, made the trip for us. In between driving us to each destination, making sure we kept to our timeplan, feeding us, turning his skills as a mechanic to good use and fixing a faulty pump in the 4WD while waiting for us at Uluru thereby ensuring that our trip could continue without any further delay, cooking for us and generally being a thoroughly nice guy, he also managed to get us to stop and take in our surroundings while he took the time to explain some of the culture we were being exposed to. We had some great experiences in Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Watarrka (Kings Canyon), each one a jewel in the crown. The memorable hikes through the Valley of the Winds and Watarrka forever etched in the memory banks and sleeping in a swag by the campfire, falling asleep watching the stars and the Milky Way only to be woken up at 5am to the sounds of Xavier Rudd singing Follow The Sun. Gus, you're a top man for helping to make our trip across Australia a memorable one. Thanks also to our chefs Marin (black eyed Susie) and Zack for creating meals that we readily devoured. This tour rates 11/10. If you get the chance, go do it!

Sept 2019
Summary: We booked the 3 night - 4 day Galah tour but you can easily just book the 2 night - 3 day and it's basically the same. The only thing that we received extra for $150 per person is a night in a dorm of a hostel (worth $30). I usually never complain on the internet about anything and always try to solve issues directly with the organization but this time we were really treated unfairly.

More info: We were quite disappointed with the organization of this tour. We drove all the way from Kings Canyon to Alice Springs, where the tour finished already after lunch on day 3. So our day 4 that we booked extra actually consisted of doing nothing in the afternoon on day 3 and on day 4 drive back to AYQ for 5 hours. I don’t know why first of all we paid for a 4 night - 3 days tour and secondly, they did not recommend us to fly to AYQ and fly back from Alice Springs. I contacted them while searching for flights and they did not mention this. Also, the program on your website does not mention all these kilometers/hours. Anyway, this is not the worst thing. I do strongly disagree on paying 150 AUD pp more than the rest of the group. The only thing we got extra for this is one night more in a dorm room worth 30AUD.
Moreover we asked specifically for a seperate room and this was not arranged.

Dear Janneke, I am sorry that you were disappointed with your tour experience and that we were not able to alleviate your concerns in our correspondence. It might help to clarify some points about our Galah Dreaming Safari. This tour is designed to accommodate passengers who wish to complete their touring experience at Yulara rather than Alice Springs. In addition to the full 3 day itinerary which includes Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Watarrka the 4 day passengers are accommodated in Alice Springs on the third night allowing time for unguided exploration before returning to Ayers Rock Airport the following morning. This information is clearly listed on our website and other marketing materials and I apologise that you did not feel fully informed prior to travelling with us. I note that you were indeed erroneously accommodated in a dorm even though you had requested a private room, this was our mistake and was reflected in your tour cost. I apologise that this occurred and that a private room could not be arranged one the issue was identified. Once again I apologise that you feel you have been treated unfairly however your tour was provided as advertised. I hope that despite these issues you enjoyed the remarkable sights of the Red Centre and the remainder of your travels in Australia

The tour, especially the hot spots like Ayers Rock, the Olagas and Kings Canyon, was great. If you want to see the most popular places in the red center, it is in general a good option in comparison with a simple outback camping tour managed by yourself. The camp sites are ok, also the food wayoutback was offering. What was not good at all? Well, the guide was not interested and enthusiasm at all. unfortunately, he was only driving the 4WD and explained only things he has to. Furthermore, the badest thing ever during the tour was, that wayoutback mixed up the groups( goanna and cackatoo). I mean, I payed for the goanna dreaming tour 865 AUD for more comfort, better food, small groups and more detailed tour informations at the hot spots. What is happening? So, wayoutback puts some other people from the cheaper group (sleeping in the swag, available for round about 420 AUD ->cockatoo) with us together. Means, the group was not small at all and the others got the same comfort tour for the half price. From
My point of few, that’s not fair at all and I am really angry about this. In summary, i do not recommend wayoutback and their tours because they are dishonest to their customers. Next time I will book another tour from other companies. Price, quality and fairness are NOT fitting Together at wayoutback Tours!!!

Thank you for sharing your review. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the sights on your tour but I'm sorry that some aspects fell short of your expectations It might help to clarify that as per our terms and conditions we are occasionally required to combine tours to ensure that all departures reach the minimum requirements to go ahead. On these occasions passengers will always be upgraded to the higher standard tour and all itinerised activities will go ahead as planned so the presence of upgraded passengers will be of no detriment to those who booked this product. It is very common in this day and age for passengers to travel on a variety of rates, most notably on airlines and in hotels but also on tours such as ours. We are completely transparent about this with all passengers directed to our terms and conditions at the time of booking. Regarding your guide there are occasions on which they are not expected or permitted to give commentary, eg. in the cultural centre and at sunset/sunrise viewings. However I will review your groups feedback and should there appear to be a consistent level of concern regarding the information provided on your tour I will refer this to our operations team to address with the guide. Thank you again for your review and I again apologise that you did not feel fully informed regarding our operating terms and conditions.

We had a lot of fun on this tour with our guide Suzy who was great. She was very uplifting and helpful. The food was good and accommodated for veg options. The views were beautiful! Some of the hikes do involve a fair bit of walking and physical fitness so would not recommend for people with low fitness levels especially in the heat. There were so many flies that would always fly on your face around your eyes so would recommend looking into a fly net before the start of the tour. It also got quite cold at night so pack warmer clothes for the swags in the fall/winter. Overall, great tour!

where one is more expensive and recommended by the company to people over 40. Eventually in our tour both young backpackers and over 40 got the same itinarary. Sorry but the company was dishonest.

I'm sorry that you felt our pricing structure was dishonest. We do offer two different tour styles, our budget option recommended for those aged between 18-40 year and our open age classic style tour. There are a number of differences between our tour styles including upgrade to purpose built 4WD vehicle, Fixed tent accommodation, meals including the endless star dining experience and activities such as the Maraku indigenous experience and travel via the remote Giles Track. On occasion it is necessary to combine tours, for eg. when low numbers are threatening a departure. When this occurs we always upgrade passengers to the higher standard product and complete the itinerary in full so the presence of those upgraded passengers is of no detriment to anyone on board. It is not uncommon for there to be a variance in the rates paid by passengers traveling on the same tour, for example we offer early bird and multi tour rates and group discounts to name a few. This is in no way intended to be dishonest and is quite common across the industry, most notably in hotels and on airlines. Again I am sorry that you felt this was dishonest, we do have this information freely available in our terms and conditions which are on our website and shared at the time of booking

We did the 3 day Goanna Dreaming 4WD tour and Dave was our guide/driver. He was great and everyone on the tour pitched in with setting up camp, collecting fire wood and helped with food prep which made things run really smoothly. The permanent tents in camp were basic but enough for what you needed for an overnight stay, after all you are there to see the sights not the inside of your tent! Everywhere we visited was amazing and the information provided by Dave about each place was great. At Uluru we had a local aboriginal lady Joanne talk about and show us some of the ways they have survived on the land for thousands of years, it was very interesting. This tour does not allow anytime for climbing Uluru as they actively advise you not to climb it, which was ok for us. The walk through the Valley of the Winds at Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) in truly incredible and even more so was the walk at Kings Canyon. This is a very beautiful part of Australia and one that everyone should see.

I want to start off this review with stating I am not a camper. I have never been camping in my life so this was an adventure for me. I had a great time though. We had a great tour guide in Gus. He is extremely sarcastic but being from the Northeast of the US that is right up my ally. While Uluru was amazing, the hike at Kata Tjuta was the highlight. We paid for tents but slept in a swag at kings canyon which apparently is the best place to view stars (someone said a 9/10)! Its so amazing you can even see some of the Milky Way. While the facilities are definitely camping facilities, it provided a place to take a hot shower and plumbing for bathroom. There were outlets at the first campsite for charging phones or if you need it blow drying hair. The days are long (sun rise to sun set) and some of the hikes are on the challenging side. Some of the older folks in our group had some issues but they made it through unharmed. I will say after the 3 days I was very happy to get to a hotel room haha. The food was much better than I expected for a camping trip, so I was very satisfied. All in all I highly rate this tour.

Our guide, Dean, was very knowledgeable and obviously enjoyed his job, which the group appreciated. The views and scenery on this tour are stunning... but it is not for the faint of heart! Very early starts on all 3 days (if you are picked up in Alice Springs on Day #1), rustic campsites (especially at Uluru - several blocks away from the bathrooms; King's Canyon was nicer) and long hikes over rugged terrain. That said, you can opt for shorter hikes, but you should still be in good condition and like to "rough it." The trip was a once in a lifetime experience, to be sure.

Dear Expoblana, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Our aim is to provide unforgettable tours to the NT so it's great to hear that you enjoyed your time on tour with us and that you found it to be a once in a lifetime experience. It's a pleasure to read your comments regarding our guide, Dean, and I will be sure to pass them on to both Dean and the necessary management to ensure he is recognised for his efforts. I appreciate your honest summary of the scenery, campsites and hikes. Our safaris are aimed at the active traveller and as such a certain level of fitness is required to fully enjoy your time with us. As we focus on providing an authentic outback camping experience our campsites are basic but comfortable (certainly not to be compared with glamping but we do have facilities including a kitchen and bathroom block nearby). The bathrooms can be located a short walk from the campsite as you have mentioned and as such we recommend all passengers pack a flashlight when travelling with us. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience and I hope that you enjoy the rest of your time in Australia. All the best on your future travels.
