Capture the spirit of Alice Springs
A really lovely snapshot of Alice Springs, informative, quirky and diverse. Peter did a great job as tour leader, cheerful, chatty and full of information. It was very hot, the bus was cool and there was plenty of cold filtered water. Lots of flies at the Old Telegraph Station.

          Interesting tour
My wife and I undertook this fantastic and worthwhile tour to different highlight venues in Alice Springs. We were so fortunate to have Barry, our Coach Driver and very knowledgeable tour guide. The first stop was ANZAC lookout which not only gave a great outlook of Alice Springs but more importantly the prior and current countries in which our brave service personnel served/and are currently serving. We were then taken to the studio of School of the Air. For those who aren’t aware, this educational facility offers distant education to remote communities and properties which is a must for our young upcoming children. The next stop was at the historical Overland Telegraph Line which many years ago joined Australia to the global telegraph network. This is a historical and worthwhile visit. The Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS). An amazing medical service for a vast and remote country such as Australia. It goes without saying that for not only emergency situations, this service offers general medical professionals to many remote communities being attended to by air. We next visited the Reptile Park. It was an interesting insight into the reptiles. Our guide was very animated and informative, recommend this also,

Misleading Pick Up Time and Unavailable Customer Service
On the top of the ticket it say 7:00 in bold for the pick up time, then in the fine print it provides earlier times for pick up by hotel. We were 10 minutes late for the listed hotel pick up time but early for the 7 AM time. The bus had left and made no effort to call or talk to the front desk of our hotel (per the company this is company policy). We tried to call them (again before 7 AM) but the company isn’t actually open until 9 AM. Our hotel was somehow able to get a hold of them and they said they would try and reach the driver and then hung up on us. The have offered a ticket on the bus for the next day, however that wasn’t an option for us due to hotels being booked already. While we may have missed the pick up time by 10 minutes, the situation could have been avoided if we were able to reach someone immediately or if they had attempted to contact us.

Alice Springs, Uluru, Kata Tjuta, King's Canyon and MacDonnell Ranges
After two and a bit years of Covid enforced “home-stay”😊, we finally started our touring again. As a “test case” as well as revision of touring skills, we’ve chosen to tour within our home country first. As I had never been to the interior of Australia, Alice Spring was going to be our “pseudo overseas“ tour. At the time of travelling, the airlines were not in full capacity and as a result of this limitation, the plane flew to Sydney from Melbourne first before heading back west to Alice Spring. Travelling during the month of June means more “user friendly” weather. The five days we were there, the top temperature never exceeds 23C. Yes, Uluru is very unique and with spectacular colour changes all the time (especially sun rise and sun set, you obviously need to stay at least one night at Uluru). We joined a group tour with sunset BBQ dinner under the stars. We were given an astrology 101 presentation after the dinner and the whole experience was wonderful. The coach driver had informed us that there were tourists who travelled on their own mistook Mt. Conner as Uluru. But from a distance I am not surprised that some people fell for it. Obviously Mt. Conner is inside a private property whereas Uluru has lots of tourists around all the time. We did the King’s Canyon walking trail (again with a tour guide, note this trail has no toilet facility)) and it could be challenging for some of tourists. We were told if we could not complete the first 100 steps, then we could not continue the walk (all up about 3-3.5 hours). The walk was worth the effort as all the beautiful scenery can only be reached by foot. Our tour also included Kata Tjuta, Standley Chasm, Ellery Creek Big Hole and MacDonnell Ranges. Together with the tyranny of distance and limited roads around Alice Springs (quite a few doubling back from one place to another) touring this place requires a good solid research and planning, and it pays to allow more time for the whole trip. Food could be quite expensive as compared to other regional towns. In the end it was a bit of an effort to tour but it is worth the trouble.

          Fantastic tour!
We were a small group of six and Barry was our excellent driver who was very informative about the locations we were seeing on the 4 hour tour. This was a very interesting insight into this town, so remote from other civilisation. We visited ANZAC Hill, the School of the Air, the first telegraph station and the Royal Flying Doctors, but the unexpected highlight was the final stop, the reptile centre. We had assumed this was just going to be a look at some interesting Australian critters, but it was actually a talk and tour by Rex- what a character! Extremely informative about how dangerous snakes can be and the consequences of not giving them due respect. A real eye opener. Not to be missed.

Excellent tour, highly recommend with entertaining presenters and great tour driver Ash.
Ash was brilliant, very personable and the places seen were great with very good presenters. Gave an excellent insight into how Alice Spring was the heart of the nation and what great pioneers the women of the outback were.

Best reptile experience in the world
Bus driver (Brett) was very knowledgeable and not over the top with facts you don’t need to know. The reptile park must be rated best in the world especially if the presentation is done by Rex. Better and more informative than Irwins.

Great tour, might take longer than you think
This was an excellent tour, and covered all the places listed, with good time at each. We hadn't expected to enjoy the Reptile Park but it was actually very interesting. Our only complaint was that the tour ran over time which meant we were running late for our dinner booking.

          Great alternative to flying
We took this shuttle in both directions and can thoroughly recommend it . There were plenty of breaks and lots of good commentary. The only improvement would have been if all passengers and the driver had been required to wear masks - there were a few people coughing and sneezing. People forget that Uluru is over 400km from Alice.

          Poor communication
We had booked this full day tour, but it had been cancelled and the travel agent hadn't received notification, so couldn't advise us, so we got up early, waited for 90 minutes, and then walked into town to try and find the AAT Kings office. The office is NOT where it's listed on the website - in fact it doesn't exist. The phone number on the itinerary to contact AAT Kings just goes through to a recorded message, saying ring back during office hours. Not much use when you're waiting at 7 am for a tour that doesn't arrive. Eventually the Tourist Information office in Todd Mall was able to help us by providing a phone number - when we eventually got through AAT Kings said we'd been rebooked on "A Town Like Alice" half day tour commencing at 1:15pm. The Tourist Information office said we were the third complaint they had had that morning (by 10:00am) about an AAT Kings tour bus not turning up. The shorter tour was fine - but that's not what we booked or wanted. Had I known in advance, I would have just hired a car do visit the local sights which would have been cheaper and quicker. Disappointing to have this happen while we were in Alice Springs.

We undertook this tour with AAT Kings. Brett our driver did an excellent job with his superb driving skills that was so necessary on a rough 4wd track. The area was simply beautiful from the Finke River and Palm Valley to the delicious morning tea at Hermannsburg. This is a must do for anyone visiting Alice Springs. Thanks Brett for a great dat

I did this tour on Sunday october 2023, first stop after long drive(120km) is Hermannsburg historical precinct. unfortunately, this precinct will be closed till April 2024; so we just had morning tea/coffee outside the attraction. There is church service in the nearby lutheran church. Then we headed west to the unsealed road to Palm valley; it’s fun, bumpy jumpy ride along the way to the first stop(picnic area) for toilet, After that we stilopped at cycad gorges where santuary of ancient trees thrives for thousand years. Finally, we arrived Palm valley, nature wonders that palm trees grow in isolated area , thousand miles from their counterparts; I did bush walk along the valley then climbed up to the ridge , walking back to the car park. It concluded my tour with wonderful experience.

Such a great day. Our very skillful and knowledgeable driver and guide, Peter, made this a day to remember. First stop was Hermannsburg Historical Precinct for a great Devonshire tea and very interesting history and aboriginal art gallery. This was followed by some fun, at times bone rattling, 4 wheel driving down the Finke River into Palm Valley. A couple of great walks, lovely lunch and amazingly stunning scenery. We loved it!

I'd been concerned about how to visit Palm Valley & opted for an AAT Kings day trip. They use a high clearance 4WD bus on an Isuzu truck body for this trip.

It was an early start collected from our hotel, pickup was at 7.05 and they were a couple of minutes early - we were almost the last on the bus. We stopped briefly at Rev. John Flynn's grave just outside Alice Springs the drove to Hermannsburg were we stopped briefly at Albert Namatjira's memorial & then for about an hour at Hermannsburg historic mission precinct (reviewed separately). The road to here was sealed. From there we turned off onto the unsealed road into Palm Valley, which wasn't too bad for about 10 km until after the camping ground. There had been a brief stop for photos at a viewing point and a longer stop for a short walk up to another viewing point on the way in. We had an early pre-packed lunch at a picnic area near the toilets. The last 3 km in to Palm Valley was serious high clearance 4 wheel drive and best left to experienced drivers - I'm glad I didn't have to attempt it. The valley itself is interesting, with palms and cycads along a short length of the river gorge. We walked a few hundred metres along the cycad section and again among the palms. The walk along the gorge rim was good, probably about 2km all up. Only a few small ponds left in the valley floor when we were there.

We got back into Alice Springs at about 4.45.

Big thanks to our driver/guide, Terry for a great day out.

Full day 4WD bus tour. The driver/ guide was absolutely passionate about the areas we visited and was full of fascinating stories about the relevant aboriginal culture; the plants and rock formations. Without this driver the trip would have been good but he made it outstanding, fun and educational.

Very enjoyable 4WD tour of Palm Valley. Prompt pick-up, friendly and knowledge driver. The track along the Finke River and Palm Valley was very rough, expect to be shaken and stirred!!
The scenery is amazing, the contract between the red and the sky is almost unreal, add a ghost gym and its almost out of this world.
Added bonus was hearing the Central Australian Aboriginal Women's Choir doing a rehearsal at the church in the Hermannsburg mission.

AAT Kings always provide a good tour experience but you have to remember that this is a tour. While on the tour you do two walks, a 1 hour walk in Palm Valley and a short walk to a lookout. With mixed abilities, these walks can take a lot longer than required and, when there is an option of a 2 hour walk through Palm Valley and an hour walk via the lookout that you aren't allowed to do, it can be quite frustrating.

Frustration aside, the tour is well planned. You spend an hour at the historical town of Hermannsburg for morning tea and scones on the way to Palm Valley which breaks the trip is nicely. The lunch is filling with a tub of pasta and a salad, as well as snacks and a juice box. Our tour guide was lovely and let people sit in the front seat while rock hopping.

Overall it was a pleasant experience. If you are a fairly active person however, this tour may be a bit slow for you.

What a fabulous day trip from Alice Springs. Big comfortable 4WD truck which made the travel as comfortable as possible. The morning tea (yummy scones, cream and jam) visit to Hermannsburg Mission was very interesting and we had enough time for a wander around the old buildings, as well as the art gallery & gift shop. Our driver Barry was very informative and a very good driver, which was important as the 'road' along the Finke River, into Palm Valley, was an adventurous off-road drive. Stunning scenery, a beautiful walk along the river bed and then an optional cliff top walk. Barry was very careful to explain the nature of the terrain and advised care when walking on rocks and stones. The picnic lunch was delicious salads, juice and fruit. Another stop at Hermannsburg Mission on the way back gave us an opportunity to look at the artworks again and meet some of the artists sitting in the garden. All in all a fabulous, exhilarating, exhausting day with a really good insight into the region.

John Stafford made it an excellent day out for us despite the heat and flies. He drove considerately especially on the challenging section from Hermansburg.

The area was dry but John helped us appreciate how it would be when the rivers were in flood
