We were lucky to have great weather. Drove up to Haleakala Natl Park and saw volcanoe depression, then lunch by golf course, then Maui Gold Pineapple tour. Just beautiful scenery and very interesting. Our group was Go Ahead / EF Tours. Buses only were operated by Polynesion Tours. Safe driving, very clean buses, a/c worked great, bathroom breaks were on par.

But I’m telling you right now our driver Wayne needs to learn what quiet time is. This tour was a long tour with very curvy roads and tendency to get motion sickness and here is this guy going on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about cows and birds and trees and roads and ladybird johnson and baldwin family and the army and on and on and on and again about cows and trees and birds and 63mph wind and every time we’d turn left he’d say so and bicyclers going up and bicyclers going down and on and on and on.

I love local history more than the next guy, but this was just too much.

He finally gave us a breather after the pineapple tour.

Mitchell, our tour guide and driver, was very friendly and had a lot of interesting information for us. The view of the Haleakala Crater was great. As the Iao-Valley was closed, we had a 30 minutes stop at Maui Tropical Plantation instead - this was disappointing as we expected to see a beautiful landscape instead of a shopping oriented farmer‘s market. We didn’t get any information about that from Polynesian Adventure Activities in advance of the tour. We rate the tour with 4 points because of the performance of our tour guide. Otherwise we would have rated it with 3 points.

Fabulous tour! Seeing the crater was beautiful and indescribable. The skies were blue with just a few wispy clouds so the views were extraordinary. And being in the Iao valley was quite remarkable. Of course it rained a little there which made it feel rather authentic. Lee, our driver and guide was exceptional. His knowledge, calmness and smooth driving made this trip perfect in every way!

Enjoyed this tour. Had a great tour guide - Mitchell. Went to Haleakala crater, saw silver sword plants, and choose to walk the 0.2 mi Pa’Kapaa Trail. Visited town of Makawao to eat lunch. Went to Iao Valley State Monument. Heard this is closing starting June 18 for upgrades to parking, bathroom... Estimated closure is 1 year. And ended your visiting Kepaniwai Park. Tour guide Mitchell of Polynesian Adventure did a great job.

Cousin Mitch was a fabulous tour guide! Everybody has a cousin in Hawaii. He gave us so much background and history behind what he was showing us. He had a relaxed easy way about him that made the whole trip so enjoyable and interesting. Thanks Cuz!

It is easy to reach the Iao Valley and see the famous needle, a volcanic formation (what else) at the site of the famous battle that united the islands under one king. There are a lot of steps to the top of the highest viewing platform, but worth the time and energy to climb. This combines easily with a trip to the aquarium, and a run out to Lahaina, the one-time capitol of the islands. The Giant Banyan tree is a sight to behold, especially if you have any interest in trees in particular. If you are lucky, you will be in Lahaina when there are no cruise ship passengers. We arrived shortly after a giant ship disgorged hundreds of people, who clogged the streets in tight groups of seniors in their 70s and 80s, as if they were Cub Scouts on their first day trip with their Den Mother. Other than that the place is pretty cool. There are some nice beaches leading to the town. The Maui Ocean Center is not large, but its exhibits are worth the time to see, and the coral exhibits in particular are dazzling. We started with the Ocean Center as soon as it opened, then went to Lahaina, and lastly to Iao Valley. We ended the day by driving into nearby Wailuku and having dinner at A Saigon Cafe, which was a truly wonderful experience.

I booked the Best of Maui tour for my wife and I before we left Australia, At the time of booking I was asked where we were staying in Lahaina. I advised and was then given a pick up point and time, 6.45am. We arrived in Lahaina on the Sunday and the tour was on the Monday. After looking at a map of the town, we saw that our pick up point was the other end of Lahaina, about a 30-35 minute walk. We rang the phone number we were given and asked if there was a closer pick up point. No, was the response 3 minutes later. So next morning, up we get at 5.30am, leave our "hotel" in the dark and walk to the collection point. The bus arrives 10 minutes or so later. On we get and start driving down the highway then turn right into Lahaina and stop at Lahaina Shores apartments to collect some more passengers. The apartments are 5 minutes walk from where we were staying! The tour was good; the driver, Preston was very good; service, rubbish.

Mahalo for the detailed feedback on your tour experience, we appreciate your compliments of your tour driver. Our tour pickups include most Maui hotels and on the occasion guests are not staying at one of these hotels, we ask that they meet at an alternate pickup location closest to where they are staying but not at another hotel. Guest convenience is of utmost importance to us, but as non-guests are most times not allowed to park at a hotel, having guests meet at a neutral pickup point avoids potential parking issues. We regret that your pickup experience was not ideal and would like to thank you for taking the time to let us know.

I was asked to be ready by 6:25 AM, and I was. However, the driver didn’t arrive for 25 minutes. The shuttle driver who arrived to pick me up at the hotel spent a fair amount of time complaining about his work experience on the island and how islanders don’t like tourists. He also got lost while picking up other guests. He also had a tendency to repeat himself during his monologue. Once on the tour bus, the driver seemed rather disinterested. He delivered his script for points of interest in a monotone fashion, interspersed with communication with headquarters. The restaurants and scenery were wonderful, but guests were basically on their own to explore stops along the tour. The tour was nice, but the staff were underwhelming. Having an engaged and enthusiastic staff would have made for a much better experience.
