The tour starts in morning with a great driving through the Hajar Mountains to Nizwa. In Nizwa we visit the Traditional Souq and Nizwa Fort. From here you will be taken to Misfah, a village seemingly hewn out of rock. Passing to Al Hamra one of the last loam villages in Oman. After that we drive up to Jabal Shams, the ‘Mountain of Sun’. From a height of nearly 3000 meters is high making it the highest mountain in Oman. The view from the top over the Grand Canyon is absolutely breathtaking.

Saif Al Aghbari was our guide on this trip.
During very challenging circumstances where most places were closed due to government restrictions due to the virus, he made the most of the day adding a few titbits along the way to make up for places being closed.
The canyon scenery was amazing and he guided us to great look out spots for the best photo opportunity.
Great guide , very personable full of information and the homemade treats a delight
Thank you

Went on multiple trips with them and can only recommend this to anyone. Much more enjoyable than the actual sightseeing was the tour guide Salim. Getting to spend time with him during the drive gave us a feeling of being able to dive into the culture and belief of the locals. We got to learn a lot more than we anticipated and we felt very well taken care of. Best trip we had so far. Thanks to the team and especially Salim for making it so special.

We fell in love with Oman from day one. Beautiful, calm, enormously clean and most importantly a country of extremely nice people, willing to help newcomers.

We landed around 9am in Muscat, and after going to the hotel, we asked to organize a trip outside the city to learn more about the culture and the beautiful landscape of Oman. Despite the free day, Muscat Nature Tours organized us a trip to Nizwa, the former capital of Oman, and further to the magnificent gorge, Jabal Shams, and basically the second largest canyon in the world.
On the way, we stopped at the largest and oldest medieval fort in Bahla and visited the abandoned traditional 400-year-old Omani village of Bait al Safah. 3,000 people lived here, living on the sale of dates and goat breeding. Now there is only 50 inhabitants. No, there was no war or plague. Simply put, when it turned out that the houses were not suitable for installing air conditioning, most residents erected new homes elsewhere. The village did not lose to civilization but to air conditioning. For consolation, the village has been inscribed on the UNESCO list. We also visited the market with countless number of date varieties, we could taste each, we were offered the tradition of Omani coffee with dates, we also tasted a sweet Omani halwa.
The excellent Toyota Land Cruiser V8 4x4 did great both on the highway and mountainous streamers. Inside, comfortable seating with plenty of space and always bottles with cold water from the fridge. Views on the way and on the spot are simply fabulous, and the architecture soothes the eye with its Arabic purity and beauty.

However, it was our guide Saif Al Aghbari that was a real treat and the culmination of our trip. Calm, cultural, reacting in advance to our needs, adapting the trip plan to our dreams. Speaking a few languages. It was thanks to him that we fell in love with Oman and Omanis. Not only did he introduce us to the captivating monuments, culture and landscapes, but he showed us the beauty of the country, hospitality and warmth of its inhabitants. Every day he prepared ginger and coconut cookies for us, and on the last day he gave us dates collected from his own garden and Omani souvenirs, so that we would have something to remember after returning to the country. In return, he really expected nothing. No wonder we made friends and went on another trip around Muscat with Saif.

We started getting to know Muscat from the Pearl in the Crown, the Grand Mosque. Built in 2001 as the largest in the world, currently the second largest after Abu Dhabi, it can accommodate 20,000 prayers. The minaret tower is the tallest building in Muscat and will remain so for all time. The entire floor of the mosque is covered by a huge carpet, handwoven by 6,000 Iranian women, which took them two years. I haven't seen a prettier mosque. The pure beauty of Arab architecture.
The next point was Mutrah Fish Market, so clean and with so much ice that there was no smell of fish. Next to it, a marina with two Sheikh yachts moored. Apparently, there is only one leader in the world who has a larger yacht😊 Old towers and strongholds stand in the hills around the bay. Next we went to watch the old Muscat with snow-white and sand walls perfectly suited to the landscape of houses and squares. Sheikh's palace is clearly distinguished by its multi-colored facade. Another architectural gem is the opera house, which, as in a mirror, reflects its white face in the surrounding glassy stones in the courtyard.

We love local market, so we also visited Mutrah Souq.. You don't have to drive away from the insistent sellers or beaters because they are simply not here. We love the place. The atmosphere was so nice that we bought some lamps and Omani coffee set.
It was another unforgettable day with Muscat Nature Travel and Saif. We highly recommend it to everyone and we wish you an unforgettable and wonderful experience. We will definitely be back to meet Saif and Oman more than once.

We visited Nizwa and everything seemed to be on track. We struggled with the English from our guide and didn’t ask for a lot of information. After Nizwa the trouble started, we think we went done the wrong road. Even our driver checked his phone regularly to see if he had reception. Once we got reception he made a phone call and we drove to Jabal Shams. We arrive 10 minutes before the restaurant closes and the food was not very good anymore. We stayed another 15 minutes and went on the way back. On the way back we stopped on the road to take a look at Misfah, thats it. We went further and drove to Al Hamra. By that time it was already very late. Our driver asked us if we wanted to go and visit or only see from the road. As it was so late we decided only to take some pictures from the road. Then we drove back to Muscat. We arrived back in Muscat at 7pm!

I booked with Muscat Nature based on reviews on this site and was not disappointed. Our driver Kulfan (apologies if not 100% accurate) arrived promptly, was friendly and keen to give us positive impression of Oman, tailoring the trip to our interests and ensuring we got to enjoy traditional coffee and cheese pastry snacks. We were offered drinks (juice, water and coffee) and snacks at regular intervals during the day, included in the cost and were given lunch at hotel in Jabal Shams. The trip was flexible in terms of timing and where we had lunch.
Our first stop was Nizwa where our driver showed us round the souk. We particularly enjoyed the date souk, where he explained the different types of dates , which we were able to sample and purchase (vacuumed packed for the flight). Also local halva and fresh tahini is delicious. We had coffee here and the local people in the shop were friendly and welcomed us to Oman. We were left to our own devices to visit Nizwa Fort (5.00 OMR admission), which is well worth visiting and had good displays and plenty of information in English and Arabic.
From here we went to Jabal Shams (4x4 essential!) which is a long drive and a spectacular sight at the end of a very long drive. We reached here at 2.00pm and had lunch afterwards. On our way back we stopped to see the old, abandoned village houses near Al Hamra and understand how villages can be isolated when the normally dry wadis are 'flooded' by rare/occasional rainfall. Our driver offered to take us back past the Grand Mosque and opera house in Muscat on our way back to the hotel and seemed in no hurry to drop us off, but keen to ensure we had the best experience.

The trip was good value for money and I would recommend Muscat Nature. They also offer airport transfers and no doubt offer tailor-made trips to fit your preferences.

This was a very memorable day trip with Muscat Nature Tours! It was an experience we booked right at the end of our 10-night stay and definitely ended up being the highlight, possibly also topping the dolphin watching!

We left very early in the morning on Friday and got to Nizwa in time for the animal market, which was quite a sight (and smell!). It was great to explore the local culture, traditions and markets, experience the forts and some of Oman's history. As this was our first time in Oman, it was actually a great introduction to a culture and heritage we knew so little of before, and our tour guide and driver, Gadour Chouchene, was quick to point out areas, activities and sights of interest to make sure we got the most out of our time in Nizwa.

Next stop was Jebel Shams (Oman's Grand Canyon). I had been a little apprehensive about the journey up 3,000 metres a day prior to our tour, particularly the off-road parts, but I'm grateful that we had Gadour with us. It was immediately obvious that we were in very safe, experienced and capable hands and I was completely relaxed the entire way up (and down). We stopped a few times along the way to take in the incredible scenes that were unfolding before us, and the view from the top was breathtaking. I've never seen anything like it.

Then it was on to lunch, which was delicious and plentiful! More soaking up the sights, and then the journey back down. We stopped at an abandoned village to stretch our legs and for photo opportunities, then we went through a vast expanse of palm trees, and back out onto the road. It was another hour or so before we'd reach the hotel. At this point, we were happy to snooze in the back seat and let Gadour return us safely back to the hotel.

All in all, we felt very well looked after by Muscat Nature Tours and particularly Gadour. We'd happily use them again when we return to Oman. It's just a shame we booked this particular excursion at the end of our stay rather than the beginning. Given more time, we absolutely would have booked more tours!

I had an incredible daylong adventure with Saif! I asked for Omani history and he definitely delivered. From Muscat, we visited Nizwa, Hamra, Misfah, and Jebel Shams. Saif is so knowledgeable about Omani history and passionate about its culture. He's also lots of fun and a great photographer! I was traveling alone, and he was great company. It was an ambitious trip to do in one day, and I'm grateful he was so flexible and accommodating. I can't wait to return to Oman and see more of the country with Saif. I've already recommended him to Omani and foreign friends and colleagues.

“An amazing trip with a great guide”

I had a wonderful time on a day trip by ‘Muscat Nature Tours’ to Jabel Shams (Grand Canyon) and the ancient city/fort of Nizwa.

The journey was made more enjoyable by the friendly, very knowledgeable and experienced tour guide and driver called Saif, who was helpful and kind offering traditional Omani pastries (which his lovely wife had made) and were delicious:)

The views from Jabel shams is a ‘truly’ memorable and awe inspiring experience as you feel like a bird looking down on the great canyon.

Also, the traditional markets and fort in Nizwa was an enjoyable experience as you feel you have been transported back in time seeing the traditional incense burners, pottery and antique silver shops.

Overall, this tour was one of the highlights of my visit to Oman and I would really recommend anyone visiting this beautiful country to experience it as it’s truly fantastic.

We were picked up from our hotel at arranged time by our lovely driver Saeed. We then went on the long drive to Nizwa. The roads in Oman are excellent, though for nervous passengers like myself, they drive too fast and too close! In Nizwa we went to the souk and the fort- both excellent. We also got the opportunity to see a camel up close and personal - which was on my wish list! From here we had coffee then took the winding road upto The Green Mountain, (which unfortunately these days is not so Green) - spectacular views and well worth a visit. Then back down the mountain for a truly memorable lunch, delicious! A quick look around a nearby village with fascinating old buildings and loads of date palms - absolutely beautiful. Then we headed back to the hotel. Throughout the trip Saeed was keen to take care of us and show us everything we asked. Excellent trip!
