Select Date and Travellers
2 travellers
Take an moderate 5- to 7-hour hike through Dovrefjell National Park in search of the magnificent wild musk ox. From your experienced guide, learn how to look for these woolly, hardy, cold-weather beasts and gain insight into local flora and fauna as you walk. There might also be a chance to see reindeer and mountain grouse during the hike if we are lucky. The hike is suitable for most people who are used to moderate hiking.
  • Guide takes the group to the best places to see musk ox
  • Leisurely guided walk through Dovrefjell National Park
  • Fantastic views and photo ops as you travel
  • Coffee provided to go along lunch you've packed
What to Expect
Meet your guide and group in Oppdal in the morning, then drive independently to the start of the hike at the entrance to Dovrefjell National Park. Bring extra layers of clothing to accommodate the changing weather, as well as your own lunch. For the next five to seven hours, follow your guide on the park's trails, keeping an eye out for mountain grouse and reindeer. Enjoy the peace and quiet and the spectacular scenery, punctuated by your guide's commentary on the local flora and fauna. You'll head for the best possible spots to see the musk ox, planned in advance by your guide. These huge animals may first appear as brown rocks—until they move. Learn about the animals' biology and behavior while getting as close as safety allows for great photos. Midday, take a break to enjoy the lunch you've brought and coffee provided by your guide.
