Lovely horses, great guides, magnificent environment
I booked this tour on a whim for the day of our arrival in Iceland. We were tired, jet lagged, and cold. I almost canceled. Thank goodness we didn’t. The horses are wonderful. The 2 hour ride was perfect for beginners. Yes, it was cold, rainy, and crazy windy. But what an introduction to the landscape! It was a great experience all around. Absolutely will do it again if we are fortunate enough to come back.

      Would come again
Fantastic, the staff were lovely, very passionate about the wellbeing of their horses. They explained very well how to ride a horse and pickup was on time. We even got to feed the horses after!

Plenty of time in the saddle
Pick up/drop-off ran smoothly at designated areas. Plenty of helpful highly-professional staff, abundant loaner equipment, and attention to safety/comfort of the horses. They accommodated different riding skills easily. Stopped in attractive place and assisted with photos taken with rider's own cameras. Never thought I'd say this but the ride was very long over terrain that didn't change... You'll need to ask for a guide to demonstrate the special Icelandic horse gait. (They won't do the fast special gait due to trail conditions.) I was in the low experience group and all we did was walk. Maybe the more advanced group got to do the special gait? Very well run and a good value.

      What an experience!
I am so happy we did this excursion as it was absolutely brilliant. As a beginner, the horses were easy to ride and well trained. The staff at the center and on the ride were experienced, accommodating and really helpful. We rode out into the beautiful countryside and it was awesome. For those who wanted to go faster, we separated into two groups near the end. Thank you for a special afternoon.

      Awesome Horseback Riding Tour
This is one of the most spectacular horseback riding tours I've ever been on, the breathtaking natural beauty of this country is incredible, and the Icelandic Horses are even better! Having great guides definitely made the experience even more memorable! I highly recommend checking it out if you're planning on making a trip to Iceland at some point, well worth every penny, and then some.

      Awesome experience
It was a great time, I was an Adventurous Beginner who was able to tolt my first time on a horse, with my partner who is an experienced rider. Loved that this ride offered more than just a walk. They had a bunch of horses of varying sizes and were able to accommodate everyone.

      Great experience
This was a really special experience. The event was very organized and the horses were well mannered. I went with the "adventurous beginner" group and trotted for the first time! Definitely something I would do again

      A true bucket list experience!
Such a special experience. The Icelandic horses are so beautiful and sweet tempered. The facility is very organized and comfortable. The staff at Ishestar are all highly professional and kind. They are very careful and patient in order to give you and the horses the best experience. I had sweet Sproti. The Viking tour was intermediate /advanced and about 3 hours across gorgeous landscape with lupines in full bloom. What I loved most is that the care of the horses is exceptional and they get plenty of time to roam freely out on the mountain side.

      Perfect
Guides were careful to match rider with the right horse. Group broke into two so that some could ride fast and others slow. Gear was perfect. Good ride on good trails. Guides stopped to take individual pictures. Competent a d friendly staff.

      Perfect Horse Tour!
Such a fun day learning about the Icelandic horses, riding along gorgeous trails, and speaking with the guides. Thank you for having horses and trails to enjoy for every person in our family, from beginner to advanced riders!

      Way above our expectations!
Excellent experience riding Icelandic horses! The horses were very well cared for and calm. All of the young women accompanying the ride were helpful, knowledgeable and kind. We recommend this activity for both beginner and experienced riders. The staff takes care of everyone. And the scenery is magnificent, a beautiful groomed and flat trail surrounded by lupine flowers and pine trees. It didn’t hurt that the weather was perfect!! By the way, we are 68 and 70 years old!

      Terrific experience!!
My husband and I had a wonderful experience during our "Horses and Waffles" riding tour on June 17th. I'm a professional trainer but my husband had not ridden in decades and we were seeking a calm, relaxing ride, which is exactly what we received. We were so impressed with the care and attention given to their fabulous Icelandic horses, the professionalism of the staff and their absolute passion for sharing their love of Iceland and the Icelandic horses. I was constantly asking questions of our tour guide who graciously answered them all in detail. At the end of our tour, our hostess prepared delicious waffles for us! I would love to return in the future!

Made some memories that will last a lifetime
This was a highlight of our family trip (3 generations) to Iceland. All of us enjoyed our horseback rides and the people who led and assisted our group were wonderful. I had not been on a horse since my honeymoon 50 years ago. But I really wanted to go and so did six grandkids/adult kids. For most, it was the first time on a horse. The scenery was gorgeous. Two of our favorite horses were Regna and Sleeping Beauty, but the managers did a great job of matching each of us to an appropriate horse. So glad we had this experience at these stables.

I did the Viking tour and fortunately I was the only one that day and I got a private tour! The staff was very welcoming and my guide, Elisa, made the tour very fun and informative about Icelandic horses and the Iceland as a whole. I would 100% recommend booking any tour with Ishestar

June 19th 2024 We recommend Islenski Horseback riding over Ishetar.

Ishtar will not refund tours for beginning riders when the W EATHER is UNSAFE.

It is raining/windy/unsafe to ride Wednesday June 19th from 10am-12noon. Ishetar had no other rides available later in the day and we couldn’t reschedule because our flight home leaves in the am June 20th.

I booked the Viking Tour for my daughter who is an experienced rider and she had a wonderful experience! She and one other rider went out with a guide for several hours on beautiful trails. The communication with the stable beforehand was excellent and the staff were wonderful. The facility was easy to get to from Reykjavik, very clean and organized, and the ponies seemed happy and well cared-for. So glad we chose Ishestar and would definitely do it again!

Everything in the smallest detail exceeded my expectations.
First of all, from the very beginning you can feel that the horses are loved and cared for in this stable.
The staff - both reception and guides - are very friendly, calm but also professional.
It was my first time and I was taught the basics well and felt safe on horseback with the guides.
The trail is amazing, you go through lava fields and there are mountains all around.
It was great and after this experience I am even thinking of starting a new hobby!

This entire experience was incredible! My 8yr old daughter and myself went. We had assumed she wouldn't be able to ride alone, so she was quite nervous when she was brought her own horse to ride. The staff however was so positive and encouraging. They reassured her, reminded her how to hold the reins. During the ride our guide ended up having her next to her and they talked the whole way! At the end she let my daughter ride in all by herself, and now my daughter wants to go again!

Our other guide was fantastic about reminding us about riding tips (pull the reins to the right, stay to the right of the trail, lean back going downhill), telling us about the lava field, she also used our phones to take photos of us on the horses!

Such a lovely welcoming group of staff. From being greeted, to meeting the horses, being assigned a horse and the ride it was fantastic. Warm clothing of coveralls is provided however gloves need to be purchased.

The instructors were very knowledgable and I liked they split the ride for experience meaning those with more could go at a faster pace. Execellent horse, very lovely temperament. Would definitely recommend coming here to ride. There is a more experienced ride in the afternoon I didn’t know about, if I did I would have definitely joined! Thank you again!

Views were phenomenal! You'll ride to an overlook and get to see an inactive volcanoe. They'll give an option to split off into a fast or slow group, I recommend the fast. Even inexperienced riders can do it (as I am) and you'll not be left behind! Altogether 5/5 experience!

Amazing!!! 8 days of riding. 6 through the highlands and 2 on the coast. The terrain and scenery were breathtaking. They fed us like royalty, the horses were excellent, and the staff was outstanding. They really looked out for us to make sure we had a wonderful experience. I have horses and ride regularly but was still a little concerned about going 8 days straight.(I'm 70), but the horses are such a pleasure to ride I had no soreness. that includes my niece who does not get to ride regularly. I'm already thinking about arranging my next tour. Rode new horses, saw new scenery and made new friends. Awesome!

I did the Viking ride yesterday and it was fantastic! The horses are lovely and our guide was great, friendly and informative. The ride itself was beautiful, through the trails in the snow with wonderful views. Plenty of tolt and canter :) Cantering through the snow was something I’ll not forget! I really hope to come back again!

I loved the experience I had riding with Ishestar. The horses were well trained and that helped boost confidence. The guides/trainers were so helpful and attentive, no matter what the issue was. Their advice was easy to understand and process. The trail and scenery felt authentic . I am ready to go again and bump up to the next speed level. I just didn't want to do that the first time out. I am an experienced rider and I was riding with beginner level family members. We all enjoyed the coffees and water and gift shop after the ride.
