- AnriU30 contributionsQuintessential Icelandic TourWe were blessed with a beautiful day and was able to view glaciers and volcanoes along the way. The tour stops at beautiful waterfalls and glaciers, goes to a tomato farm for lunch, and ends the tour at the secret lagoon. Our tour guide was Smári is an excellent storyteller and an amazing musician. He sang a song in Icelandic which was a real treat!Written 12 October 2024
- loreleil2160 contributionsHighlights of IcelandWhat an amazing way to see Iceland especially when you only have a short time here! Geysers, waterfalls, a national park with views of volcanoes and glaciers, a tomato farm with a delicious lunch, and a stop in a hot springs lagoon! Smári was a great host— knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and relaxed. He made it especially unique with a nibble of dried fish at the end along with an introduction to his musical talent. I would recommend this tour to anyone and would encourage them to request Smári!Written 12 October 2024

Unfortunately our glacier hike was cancelled due to poor weather so this was a drive to see some waterfalls and a beach. We did get a small refund but seeing the glacier and going for a hike was the main reason for choosing this tour so naturally everyone on the bus was disappointed.
Annoyingly however the guide told us to buy food at the first stop (service station) for lunch as there would be no time to stop and when we returned to the bus 10 mins later he informed us that the glacier hike had been cancelled and we would stop at a nice restaurant instead so we wasted £20 on packet sandwiches as you cannot eat your own food at the restaurant.

This was frickin’ amazing!!! Not really sure how they cued the sun and rainbow right as we arrived at the first waterfall (when it had been cloudy and raining the entire way), but it could not have been more beautiful! We had 6 people on the glacier hike, two of which we in their mid-late 70’s and Tom, our most excellent tour guide, slowed things down and set everyone perfectly at ease. All of the equipment and safety precautions taken were top notch. They went above and beyond with the fancy Mercedes shuttle equipped with blankets for everyone needing to warm up when we got back—this is not your average tour with a school bus full of people herded in and out. Tom was very knowledgeable and knew all the best spots for those picture perfect moments. Lunch was the best I’ve had at a beach—seriously, lamb chops anyone? At the last set of waterfalls, Tom was right there with us, getting wet from the waterfall spray and being McGyver with the camera, leading us into crevasse and areas we would have never experienced on our own. Big thanks to Tom and Holiday Tours for making our experience an unforgettable one in the best sort of way!

Tom made this tour an unforgettable experience, and ensured it was the best one out of all the tours we’ve been on during our week in Iceland.
The time spent at each stop was perfect, and we were quickly able to get away and move onto the next one due to the small group size.
Tom shared his local knowledge at each stop and in between when passing certain landmarks, and interacted with the whole group extremely well throughout the day.
The highlight was without doubt the glacier hike, which was simply incredible thanks to Tom.
We will certainly be requesting to be booked onto Tom’s tours whenever we next visit Iceland. This man deserves a pay rise!

We have had the most amazing day on this tour! It ended up being just my husband and I and we had the best time! Tom is a fantastic guide, really knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and made sure we both had fun and got lots of great photos. The waterfalls were all stunning and the beach was great, even if we did get caught out by a sneaky wave! The food in the restaurant by the beach is lovely, and they serve the most enormous slices of cake! The hidden waterfall at the end was a lovely sight and it was nice to see something a little less popular so there was nobody else there at the same time.
However, the real star of the tour is the glacier hike - it was the most incredible experience. My husband and I were a little nervous beforehand as we have never done anything like that before and I'm not in great shape either but Tom was patient with us and made sure we were safe at all times whilst still having a brilliant experience. As there was only two of us, he also ended up taking us a little further around the glacier and we also tried some of the glacier water and put on warpaint of volcanic ash that was on the glacier! The views both walking down to the glacier and hiking on it were just breathtaking. It was quite a sunny day but with some rain at times so we kept seeing rainbows which was just magical.
If you're thinking about doing this tour, just stop thinking and book it! You won't regret it and you'll wish you had Tom as your guide for all of your other tours!

We were picked up at 8.30 by our tour guide Tom, he then drove us around to various places that were absolutely amazing!
The highlight of the tour was the glacier walk. I felt completely out of my comfort zone at the beginning, but Tom really puts you at ease and makes you feel safe. it really was an amazing sight.
After the glacier we went to the black sand beach and another waterfall.
Above everything, on the way back there was an accident on the road. Tom knew we had Northern Lights tours later that night and given that it didn’t look like we would make it back in time, he took us the long way round to avoid the traffic and also stopped along the way to see the northern lights! This was completely above and beyond and we did get to see the lights!
Thank you for an amazing day!

This trip was exactly what we were after! We were able to Capture all the highlights of the south coast led by the brilliant guide, Tom. He was very knowledgable of the area, welcoming, funny and made the whole day and a pleasure. I really recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience the south coast of Iceland at a very competitive cost alongside some great activities!

I had an unforgettable trip. Valerio was our guide, and he did an excellent job of driving us smoothly to our various destinations and helping us make the most of each location. He gave us tips on how to best spend our time at each location, and he took great photos of us on the glacier. His focus on safety was also top-notch. Our group had 2 young kids and during the glacier hike, he made sure they stayed close to him while keeping them engaged. He also communicated lots of information during the glacier hike in a fun, engaging way, and had great humor. Highly recommend this trip, the planned itinerary is a perfect way to see all these sights. This is a full-day trip, from 8 am to 8:30 pm, and the glacier hike is moderately physically taxing. Recommend bringing lots of water and snacks.

The glacier hike was the trip highlight. It’s definitely worth it! Our master itinerary tactician, Tomasz, in a move worthy of Moses managed to reorder stops to avoid rain up to and on the glacier on a normal Iceland day. The southern shore beach near Vik and several waterfalls were truly impressive.

This entire day trip to the south coast was completely beautiful and pictures simply did not do it justice. This trip included many waterfalls, sightseeing, and plenty of bathroom stops of course. Our tour guide Tom was extremely pleasant and very experienced while still making things fun and light hearted. Tom showed a lot of knowledge about the island and technical skills when it came to scaling the Glacier. Seeinf a glacier is something I've never experienced and this was definitely a great way to do that for the first time. Since the glacier is shrinking I'm glad we got to see it before global warming takes its full toll.. We stopped at plenty of waterfalls and had a great lunch by the beach. We sadly missed out on puffin season but the black sand beaches were truly one of a kind.

At the end of an already amazing week, we set off on one last tour around the south of the country with Tommy. What an incredible way to finish the trip!! Tommy not only immerses you in the splendor of your surroundings, but he dives right in with you. He led us through crevices to hidden waterfalls, seemed to always have a poncho or phone charger when needed, and even diagrammed glacial melt with his shoe! Highly recommend this package and ask for Tommy…

Hi, I have mountain sneakers rather than boots, they do not cover the ankle. Are they still good for the glacier?
Written 26 October 2023
We had hiking boots. The glacier guides checked everyone’s foot ware and if the foot ware wouldn’t work with the crampons, they had boots people could borrow.
Written 28 October 2023
Hi, do you climb up the side of the glacier on this tour, with the use of a harness? I have a fear of heights in those conditions so just trying to work out which tour would be best. Thanks :)
Written 7 November 2022
No - the harness is for safety if you fall into a crevass (highly unlikely). It's more like a small hike up and down small hills until you get to the flat top.
Written 8 November 2022
You will need an actual pair of walking boots due to the spikes that need to be attached. You can rent a pair of boots from the company upon arrival
Written 14 September 2022
I am going on this tour in October. I have bought hiking boots for icy conditions but it appears in photos that people have proper spikes on their shoes. Do I need to buy those somewhere??
Written 2 September 2022
Hi, sorry but it is not quite clear to me where this trip starts from?
Written 28 June 2022
Hi! I can’t remember specifically but I either had the choice of getting picked up at my hostel or at a nearby bus stop that was only a few blocks away. They were helpful in letting me know what the option was at booking and through TripAdvisor’s messaging function!

Hello: Would an 9 year old be able to make it on this trip? I don't see the option to buy a ticket for a 9 year old.
Written 1 May 2022
Absolutely…there is a bit of driving but the adventure between each stop is worth it for sure…just show them a YouTube video of going behind the falls on the walk. Lots of fun for sure
