About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Y2760YDjo0 contributionsGreat way to see the cityThis tour was so fun! We got to try a lot of the traditional foods at once and learned about the city. Our guide Biarney was great. Lots of bathroom and water breaks, and the walking was not strenuous.Written 14 October 2024
- I2328OWjoshh0 contributionsGreat history tour!Such a great tour to do while in Iceland! Our tour guide Ester E. was very knowledgable and very funny! Had a lot of historical knowledge of the settlement of Reykjavik and Iceland as well. One stop I enjoyed was at the city hall building where there was a topographical map of Iceland and she was able to explain with detail the formation and geographic obstacles that are involved with living in Iceland. A must do tour!Written 14 October 2024
- jacquelinesH8492CF0 contributionsWalking and talkingGuide was very knowledgeable about Nordic/Icelandic folklore. I loved listening to his stories. It was a little cool walking but we enjoyed the walk. I would recommend this tour.Written 11 October 2024
- seniorg1010 contributionsA walk with a VikingOur guide was well informed and knowledgable about the culture and history of Reykjavik. Unfortunately we had to leave the tour after a couple of hours due to another commitment.Written 10 October 2024
- MaryNormal0 contributionsGreat Walking TourGreat information about the history and culture of Iceland and Reykjavik. Our guide, Help, kept us interested and informed. Would recommend this as a great introduction to Iceland if it is your first time there.Written 9 October 2024
- CathyD22370 contributionsPurrfect tourOur tour guide Bardi was the best. We had a lovely stroll through downtown Reykjavik where we were introduced to the Shop cats. The Cat Cafe was the high point of the tour. For once, I wasn't the only one stopping to get photos of the cats.Written 8 October 2024
- Debbie d0 contributions4 stars for the Guide! Our tour guide, Palli, & his informative talks is the main reason I'm giving this tour 4stars. I expected more interesting traditional food. The tour descrition stated 10 types of food & it's disappointing that half if them were all in a candy store. Cost of tour wasn't justified.Written 8 October 2024
- X9013UMkristenr0 contributionsJust the two of us and our guideLearned a lot about some local legends. Our guide was friendly but also maybe a bit rushed and put off by questions. Overall we had a nice time and he warmed up to us as it went on.Written 8 October 2024
- 362sharie0 contributionsExcellentVery insighful experience. Einar was articulate and had a great sense of humor. It was very thoughtful of him to send a photo log following the tour so we have a pictorial memory. The tastings were plentiful and included some "interesting" morsels. Highly recommend this tour.Written 8 October 2024
- 682warwickd0 contributionsExcellent, informative and includes singingAn excellent tour by Einar Steinn Valgarðsson and I will return to go on another tour. The tour was relaxed and very informative, many things you would never read in a book or guide were included. Einar made it very comfortable and personal and wow has he got a great voice (come on the tour just for that).Written 8 October 2024
- P821LCchristined0 contributionsAwesome experience! Our guide was awesome! We learned about cats but so so much more about iceland, it's history, and modern practices. I highly recommend this tour!Written 8 October 2024
- Mandinkadell0 contributionsSuper informative and fun!!!We ended up taking 2 tours with Your Friend In Reykjavik on our recent trip. Our first trip was a drinking/Beer tour and our guide was Helgi. Helgi was so amazing and accommodating. He took us to the different bar locations, but catered the samplings of beers to our likings. We met a few locals, as well, as Helgi is just so personable and easy for anyone to strike up a conversation with. Helgi had a lot of interesting stories about history, but also about the recent history of Reykjavik as he has lived there his entire life. Our second tour was the Walking with a Viking Tour and our guide was Einar. Einar is a great storyteller and this tour was very informative. There was someone in the group that had mobility issues and Einar made sure to tell this person ahead of time exactly what was coming up at each turn and even slowed down to be sure this person was included in all conversations and stories. I would highly suggest both of these tours and would highly suggest both of these guides for your visit to Reykjavik!Written 7 October 2024
- cocoporter0 contributionsA delicious day touring Reykjavik with PalI love food, it gives me great joy, and I love trying new recipes. I also love visiting new places and learning about the history of the folk and their traditions and I also love a good storyteller. This tour checked all the boxes for me. The guide, Pal, a weathered fisherman, tall with white flowing locks, could play the part of Santa in a movie. Pal, was wonderful, a great storyteller, and loved his native Iceland, and its food. He kept us entertained and informed with great stories of his life as a fisherman, and the history of his beautiful town and brought us to the best eateries in town. I tried everything and I was blown away by the taste of it all. I even tried (and smelled - eeuuu!) the fermented shark, and as tradition goes, I chewed it twice, swallowed and washed it down with a shot of Snapps! Don't be scared, the stories are worst than its bite ;-)Written 7 October 2024
- lare580 contributionsFabulous tourVery entertaining tour. Our guide was so informative and shared some lovely family memories about Icelandic culture and history. We learned so much about Reykjavik and Iceland. I would highly recommend this tour.Written 6 October 2024

It was a very enjoyable tour with a friendly guide. There were only 5 of us on the tour. We stopped at 4 eateries and the flea market. Some of the food that we had included meat soup, smoked lamb, plokkfiskur, lobster soup, whale meat, fermented shark, skyr dessert, and the famous Icelandic hot dog. At the flea market, we sampled some dried fish and some Icelandic sweets. I enjoyed all the food and I ate some food that I never eaten before.
After the tour, we were sent a link to photos taken by the guide during the tour. The tour company, Your Friend in Reykjavik, also emailed a downloadable cook book. I highly recommend this tour and this tour company.

Great guide, really liked him. Big problem was skipping the hot dog stop because of long lines. Did you guys not expect it to be crowded on a summer Saturday at lunchtime? Should have made it the first stop perhaps? And zero compensation for skipping the most famous of the stops, couldn't you have had guide get us hotdogs elsewhere? That was an avoidable and fixable problem.

What a great experience and the perfect way to sample traditional Icelandic foods. Each stop had something special and nothing disappointed me. Our group was small because some people did not show up so that made it almost like a private tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and full of information about Reykjavik.

This was a fantastic walking tour through downtown. Gave us great perspective on where things are - and then we had the added bonus of enjoying some wonderful Icelandic foods - from their amazing hot dog to fermented shark and whale - a great way to experience the Icelandic lifestyle through food. Our guide, Esther, was amazing. She was charming, funny, friendly and very well versed. This was a great experience for us all

Had a ball trying Icelandic food that I would never order on my own. Got to stop at a candy store, flea market, and several restaurants to do tastings. Well worth the money. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and made for a fun experience. I cannot remember his name but he is featured in the pics.

Special thanks to Einar who took us on a wonderful tour to try different foods. After a week of being there, we finally had a day with blue skies showing through. We enjoyed the variety of foods we were able to try and the market. This is definitely a tour to take, but maybe earlier in the week. We had to reschedule due to travel delays, but at least we got the tour in. **Try the fermented Shark**

I enjoyed from the start to the end of the tour. The first stop for a bowl of lobster bisque drove away our coldness. Subsequently we had hot dog and lamb soup that filled our stomach. We also had a chance to try for the Shark and whale meat as well as signature Iceland dessert.
Besides the food experience, we also learnt a brief history of Iceland.

This trip and our guide were awesome. Food was delicious!
I thought the market was more like a flea market than a grocery market but the trip was still great.

I took the tour in August and there weren't any vegetarians in our tour. Most of the dishes that we had contained meat. It's best to directly contact the tour company, "Your Friend in Reykjavik", to see if they offer vegetarian options. You can use Google to find their website. They have a contact link for questions.

Does the 11:30 food tour also go through the flea market or just the 1:00?
