About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- ryanplank0 contributionsEnjoyed the guide and the sceneryGreat guide. He was a retired Local teacher, knew a ton about everything and was willing to share. The scenery and Hot Springs work too :)Written 7 October 2024
- dmiklowitz0 contributionsNot a very comfortable "comfort package"We were very disappointed. First, the bus to pick us up in Reykjavik (bus stop #3) did not show up for our scheduled 13:00 departure. We arrived at 12:30 to be certain we'd be on time, and waited at the bus stop, and when they didn't show we called the agency. They claimed they had arrived at 12:41 pm and we weren't there. We can't imagine how this would have happened - maybe they arrived across the street? In any case, because this company makes no effort to see whether those with reservations are actually aboard, we were out of luck. We had to get a bus to the lagoon from the city center which cost us an additional $59. We almost missed the tour bus going back as well- it listed 4:15 as the departure time and we arrived right at 4:15, and the bus was already in motion- we had to run after it waving. Hardly what I'd call a "Comfort Experience"! The bus driver seemed confused about whether the bus was scheduled to depart at 4:00 or 4:15 (their literature clearly says 4:15). I have tried to get a refund of all or at least part of the $398 tour fee we paid and they (through Viator) were unwilling to refund anything other than $50 toward the city center bus fare. In any case, there are many other companies that will take you to the Blue Lagoon - I would not recommend this one based on our experiences.Written 6 October 2024
- timothycM2965VP0 contributionsGreat Tour of Southern CoastHad the tour with Dylan from Reykjavik Excursions. It was a great experience all around. Each stop was beautiful and we were given a good amount of time to take in the sights and take photos. Dylan provided great info on the locations and on Iceland's history in entertaining fashion. He also did a great job preparing us with what to expect at each stop and ensured we knew which ones had food and facilities.Written 6 October 2024
- H7187SNjoer0 contributionsExcellent experience, and Great staff. We did several Excursions Golden Circle Express, and South Shore Adventure. Also used their Flybus. Really friendly efficient service, and helpful staff. The Tours were great and very informative. Benedict our Driver and Guide on the South shore was really helpful, and knowledgable about Iceland. Would recommend to anyone traveling to Iceland.Written 6 October 2024

- 964veldac0 contributionsGlacier lagoon is a must go!This is a super long day tour but totally worths it!! A special appreciation has to be made to our guide, Gunnar, also the driver for the day of a full 14+ hours tour, he was fun and full of energy despite such a long journey! He managed the tour very well with a lot of local stories to tell. The tour itself is wonderful with all the beautiful waterfalls and a must do is the boat trip at Glacier Lagoon although it’s not included in the tour itself. One tip is to be careful of the wave at the diamond beach or else you will get all wet while taking photos of the beautiful diamonds!Written 5 October 2024

- Karen S0 contributionsAwesome, once in a lifetime experience! The bus took us about an hour away - away from the lights of the city. The northern lights were unbelievable! Got lots of great pictures.Written 5 October 2024
- U6117RJbobt0 contributionsA Bad ExperienceWife and I booked the South Coast tour. Supposed to be picked up at our hotel (Hilton). We got down to reception about 5 minutes after the scheduled pick-up time. Bus had gone, driver apparently didn't even bother to enquire at reception! Sent the tour company email, complained, and asked for a refund. Company responded with "too bad, you were late, we don't hang around, you will not get a refund"Written 4 October 2024
- kimflwrpwr0 contributionsEric the Best! This was a full days tour of Icelands beautiful landscapes, towns and sites on the south coast. Our driver/ guide did an excellent job navigating ever changing weather, relaying practical information, providing informative narrative and a bit of comic relief all while keeping us safe, and fed! He was the best tour guide ever! The sights were breath taking, albeit a bit busy/ crowded. Once in a life time day for us! Thank you Eric!Written 4 October 2024
- Bam C0 contributionsFlosi was the bestThere’s way too much to say. The landscape was wonderful but I loved being in a small group and our guide Flosi Kristjansson was incredible. Our tour went over a couple hours but Flosi was so knowledgable and fun to learn from no one on the entire bus minded. Incredible experience I will surely do again.Written 3 October 2024
- Rachelle W0 contributionsBeautiful sights and great tour guideThe pick up went smoothly. The tour and guide were excellent. I highly recommend this tour. The only issue was at the end. We had to transfer to a shuttle to return to our hotel. It was not a quick progress. We had to wait for passengers arriving from the airport.Written 3 October 2024
- troychristiet0 contributionsWe saw the lightsOur first time out we were not able to see any lights. The company did great and let's you book again, at no extra cost, to try to see them. We got lucky and saw the Northern Lights. Definately do the Reykjavik Excursion museum before going. There is a poster there on what setting are best to take pics with your camera. The setting worked wonderfully!Written 2 October 2024
- loubser130 contributionsGreat tour!Nothing could have prepared us for what we saw today. We absolutely loved this tour! The Glacier lagoon with the boat option and the Diamond Beach were highlights. Gunnar B made our very long travel day extra fun with his witty stories and wide knowledge.Written 1 October 2024

We made the right selection for having the northen lights tour with Reykjavik Outventure. They are very professional. The most matter are of course the guides. Their guides are very knowledgeable of the area and Northern Lights.
They are also skilled minibus driver who make us comfort in the windy weather and slippery road.
They email us the day before our trip as a schedule reminder.
We witnessed the Lava Eruption on Dec 18 and we had a beautiful Northen Lights Show on our 2nd try.

First time reviewer here but I felt I had to review this tour. I cannot praise this tour enough. Obviously you aren’t guaranteed to see this natural phenomenon but our guide went above and beyond for us. It was a small group tour ( which I would highly recommend as the minibus takes you to locations a coach cannot ) we saw the northern lights and watched them for over an hour before they started to fade, we all got back on the bus, when our guide quickly shouted for us to get off again and what we saw was the best view of the lights seen so far this year! It was AMAZING!!! I would definitely recommend this company and especially this tour, worth every penny.

We took a Northern Lights tour with Devin and it was wonderful! Definitely a highlight of our trip. Devin was incredibly knowledgeable and humorous, and was determined to bring us to the best spots to find activity. The Northern Lights cooperated and gave us a great show, but if you don’t see any activity they will allow you to try again another night.
Highly recommend adding this tour to your itinerary!

We were scheduled for a Northern Lights Tour with pickup at our hotel. Unfortunately, we were told by another company, Special Tours, to get on its bus at our hotel—easy to do and not anyone’s fault. Once we realized our mistake, we were at a pier to get on a boat. We should have been on a bus going outside of Reykjavik. The wonderful people at the other company contacted Reykjavik Excursions. They made a correction immediately. Special Tours personnel drove us to the bus station to make the switch. We were escorted to another RE bus to take us to the viewing site. All was good. The kindness, friendliness, and cooperation between the two companies was exceptional. It affirmed for us that the Icelanders are special people and Iceland is a grand country to visit.

We did several Northern Lights excursions out of Reykjavík, and this one with Stefan Svavarsson was the BEST. He is passionate about hunting for and finding the Aurora, and he was a wealth of very interesting information. Not only did he rely on his network of other aurora hunters to monitor activity, he knows all the best spots to view—even when you have to find one quick because it’s happening sooner than expected! On top of all this, Stefan went above and beyond by taking photos and time lapse video with his camera on a tripod that he was willing to share with us. Way better than the photos we captured! Such a cool memory for us of a magical night.

Fabulous trip.picked up fr my hotel in a small minibus with about 12 people total
Guide was excellent very friendly spoke amazing English
He explained that being in the smaller bus meant he could access more remote places if he needed to. We knew there were no guarantees of seeing the lights and had been out the night before in a large coach and taken to a place where there were more large coaches and hoards of people. U know thst has no affect on whether the lights come out or not but I wouldn't have enjoyed as much if they had that night. On our small group tour the lights were fabulous from the second we stepped off the bus. The guide helped with camera settings and was as enthusiastic about seeing the lights as his customers were. In fact hours later when we were all making our way back on to the minibus he called us all off again as the lights had become so clear and unusual! Our guides name sounded like Goodjom however I know its not spelt like that. I would highly recommend this tour as your best chance to see and enjoy the lights

After a mishap with our booking and missing our tour bus, they very kindly put us on the next one going out rather than making us wait until the next day, something they didn’t need to do but were generous to offer. Had a great experience with Stefàn who had a fab sense of humour and kept it light hearted along the way. We did get to see the lights and he also took his own photos of the lights that he uploaded to a Google drive for us to use which turned out amazing :) would highly recommend!

This was a wonderful way to see the lights which we were lucky enough to accomplish. Our guide Solvig gave an excellent talk about Iceland and the aurora borealis on the way to the remote location. He also gave us tips on how to get the best photos with both phones and cameras. Lights started right after we parked. With just the small group it was quite easy for everyone to see them and take photos. Solvig went around and checked that everybody was getting some good pictures. We had plenty of time at the site including some time to warm up in the van, it was brutally cold on top of the hill. But the view was amazing from there.

Our first trip was cancelled so they put us on the next night tour.
Stefan, our guide, was great, really knowledgeable and also funny, telling us about the technicalities and how the lights are actually formed, as well as being honest about expectations of seeing the lights.
We went to the national park and waited an hour in the car park and saw very faint lights.
We began our journey back to Reykjavik and Stefan pulled the bus over and the lights we saw were amazing!
We were very lucky to see them as we flew home the next day so weren’t able to rebook a tour.
Great experience and fantastic guide.

We did a small group Northern Lights tour with our enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and personable driver/guide Bjarni Gaukur Thormundsson (BG). Pick up and drop off from our hotel went smoothly. BG was fantastic! He even took our photo with the lights behind us, then he emailed it to us that night! The tour would have been a five except for the following: This tour went to an area with no restrooms. The lights were mediocre compared to photos we've seen. However, it was a full moon and we had no other choice for dates to travel. (Try to go when it's a new moon!) The negatives were beyond the control of Reykjavik Excursions as they cannot control the dates you travel, they cannot control the moon, and the best lights are seen in the darkest areas, so of course there will be no restrooms in the darkest locations. We would have given this tour a 3 or less, but BG made the difference between a so-so tour and a great experience.
