We had an amazing food tour with Wake Up Reykjavik! The food selected for the visit was top notch and with Ben as our guide, we had an informative, entertaining and simply enjoyable tour of food and the city. I highly recommend the Reykjavik food Walk to get a sample of Icelandic cuisine (lamb, fish, and other treats - my favorite was the dessert at the very last stop) and tour some wonderful sights around the city- an easy way to kill two birds with one stone! If the price of the food tour is at all a deterrent, don’t let it be, you will get enough food to fill you up and I’m sure you would not be able to get this variety at this cost in any other way.
I like doing food tours as a way of getting acquainted with a city, and this is one of my absolute favorites after the many I have been on - we had a great guide and food!

The tour was amazing! Our guide Ben was extremely informative and fun to be around, and he guided us around downtown Reykjavik. We got to try 5 different restaurants and their local cuisine, and Ben gave us commentary and some history of each restaurant as we walked throughout town. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in exploring the food and wants some expert recommendations from their guide!

My partner and I took our first food tour in 2016 and were eager to return as Iceland began to reopened. I’m happy to report that the experience was and is as enjoyable and flavorful as ever. We were Dave’s first solo tour and he did an exceptional job. With a mish mash of Americans from various places and stages of life, he was able to connect with everyone and facilitate an engaging experience. The evening tour we took was a bit different than our initial afternoon based experience, but still thoroughly entertaining. It definitely centers on icelandic cuisine so expect fish and lamb aplenty! Some of the restaurants were new but others were a welcome return, so all in all a good mix. Dan also went above and beyond for us behind the Scenes by making restaurant recommendations and booking a special birthday reservation for us!
Egill remains a 🤴🏻! Whether this is your first or tenth visit to Reykjavík, this is the food tour you should do.

What a wonderful experience! Well worth the cost, our guide was friendly and knowledgable as she took us on a very easy strolling-pace walk around downtown Reykjavik. We went to 5 different historical, amazing food locations for 1. appetizers, 2. a traditional Icelandic lamb hot dog, 3. main course of fish and veg that was to die for, 4. beer and stew, and 5. desserts and coffee. The cost alone is so much cheaper than if we went to each of these places on our own and ordered the same food. Everything was delicious, the company was amazing, there was no wait or hassle, food was ready and waiting fresh when we walked in, and they even were able to accommodate a vegetarian and two nut allergy individuals without issue. 10/10 would do again. And big shout out to our guide Ásthildur (her name means Warrior of Love~) for making the experience over the top! My only advice is bring rain gear

This was a great way to explore the city and try lots of Icelandic classic foods, all accompanied by the knowledge and hospitality of our fab guide, Thor. We went on the second day of our visit which gave us good ideas of where to eat for the rest of our trip.

The food was delicious on the whole (not the fermented shark though!) We tried local comfort foods and also more modern twists and inclusions into the culture. It being Iceland there was quite a bit of fish and lamb. We also got to try local beers (some included, some an additional cost). For non beer drinkers an alternative was found, a lovely Christmas drink for the children and a local whisky for others. Having a local to guide us offered real insights, not only into the stories behind the food, but also general information. Our host, Thor, made everyone feel very welcome and included as our group had lively discussions about allsorts of topics.

We recommended the tour to everyone we met out there and echo that here. If you are having a gentler day around Reykjavík and are interested in food and culture, you will enjoy this.

Also worth mentioning how accommodating the company was about having to reschedule due to Covid.

This was an AMAZING tour!! Our guide, Eyglo, was so knowledgeable about the food, the city and Icelandic culture, that it made the whole experience much more robust than a simple walking and eating tour. We had a great time with the other people on the tour, the vibe was relaxed and easy-going, and the food was delicious. I'd highly, highly recommend this tour so that you can explore the city and get a taste of Icelandic culture through the curated menu items. It was one of the highlights of our trip!

One of our highlights of the Iceland visit! Ben was very personable, knowledgable, and made the group feel welcome. We enjoyed hearing about Icelandic culture as much as the delicious food, highly recommend including this affordable tour in your visit. We actually went back and had dinner at one of the restaurants the next day as it was so good!

This is a must do for anyone going to Reykjavik. Such a great mix of food, history, culture along with a lot of laughs. Ben was incredible. Even with a sold out tour he managed to ensure everyone heard the information and answers all questions.

From far the best tour we had in Iceland! "Day" is a charismatic and clever guide that beautifully introduced us Icelandic gastronomy, while providing some historical background and lots of good stories about the city. He's also very funny and a superhero in his lost hours! Yes, it might sound a bit pricey but it's a well worth experience (and eating out on Iceland in quite expensive. Be prepared!). We highly recommend this tour to anyone wishing to know a little bit more about this wonderful and very particular country. Thanks, Day, we had a memorable experience today! Amanda & Fred

Not going to lie, when I first booked this I thought this was really expensive compared to other food tours we’ve done in other countries HOWEVER after spending a bit of time in Reykjavik you’ll realise that everything is expensive!

I’m not a huge fish lover so was a bit worried about how much I would enjoy it but I tried everything (including the fermented shark!) and really enjoyed it, everything was delicious. We visited 5 different places but tried multiple dishes in some venues with a good mix of predominantly fish and lamb dishes as well as rye bread ice-cream and Icelandic donut to finish.

Our tour guide Juliana was knowledgeable, engaging and ensured that everyone was looked after. This was a great experience and worth every penny.
