- Tour535027937910 contributionsClearest and coldest dive ever! One of the best dives def! Before we go we knew the water is very cold already, however the dry suit by dive.is and undergarments from them is in good shape and really no leakage and warm! Our guide Papi is very skillful and helpful on getting us in and out of the suit, make it painless and easy! The dive is interesting, very different from the ones in sea water, cold but super clear!! U can get that nowhere else in the world I believe. Guide Papi also help us took many photos so I don't have to do it with my action cam given it's not an easy I have to say. Bonus: after we get out of water we can drink as much hot chocolate as we want haha~Written 6 October 2024

I went snorkeling in Silfra for my birthday in October 2022, it was an unforgettable experience. In autumn I recommend to book the tour of 14:00 pm (it 's less crowded and you can enjoy the sunset right over Silfra) and to wear before the dry suit a second pair of wool socks.
I also very recommend you my guide Andreas, he was very professional, efficient, friendly and very careful to details (I mean the dry suit dressing part) making my snorkeling tour an unforgettable experience which I widely recommend and personally would be happy to repeat again (even if the water temperature was 2°C and I tried to free dive, I came out almost dry when outside was freezing).

Surreal snorkelling experience, overall very enjoyable and relatively easy even for my 12 years old daughter. Of course under the professional supervision from our guide - Thomas who made sure we are all safe and dry (also took nice pictures under water by the way). The water is cold but we felt OK even with only limited clothing under the drysuit.

Absolutely incredible, absolutely breathtaking.
Keep in mind that I'm not the greatest at snorkeling.
My girlfriend saw this and wanted to do it. I surprised her with it as a christmas present.
We went on January 2nd, it was freezing outside, it was windy and it was snowing.
Definitely wear a warm thermal set and some wool socks, or even two pairs of socks.
The dry suit for the most part keeps your whole body dry. Your hands get a little wet and a little water went in by the neck/ear area. Nothing bad though.
It actually felt warmer in the water then it did before you went in or got out.
Our tour guide Marijo was awesome, caring and helped the entire time.
There was a group of 6 of us and made sure each of us was safe and okay.
The dry suit keeps you a float, you aren't going down even if you tried(which I liked)
To be able to say that we did this is amazing. The water, the view, the history. Id do it all over again.

We did a combination tour of the dry suit snorkel at Silfra, the lava tunnel cave tour and the northern light tour from the Arora Basecamp. Thomas, our guide at Silfra was knowledgeable, helpful and humorous which all made for an excellent experience to go with the epic landscape, cold weather and water conditions. The caving was an amazing experience which I would definitely recommend. Louis, our guide, was friendly, knowledgeable, took great photos and took the time to add in local stories and folk lore to make the experience more enjoyable. The Arora camp was really interesting and a great way to learn about northern lights and how to spot them. It also provides a warm and dark spot (away from the city lights) to search for them (weather permitting). All together this was a highlight of our trip.

We had pre-paid the photo package and at the site the guide Anna showed us the pictures she had taken.
4 times during the week a link with other peoples pictures were sent to us (Privacy and Data protection problems?) and we were told that this would be fixed. Mails would say: "Finally we fixed it", "We have problen with our dropbox" etc. for more than a week. Always in a friendly tone creating expectations that this would be solved. After a week we were informed that the pictures did no longer exist. Sorry!
So my recommendations are to not select pre-paid photos, take your photos your self if possible or even better pick another dive/snorkel operator.

Hello Henrik,
Thank you for choosing DIVE.IS and for taking the time to write your review.
Our customers' safety and satisfaction are our main priorities and for this reason we are truly sorry for what happened in this instance.
I completely understand your frustration and disappointment and I want to apologize again for coming across as incompetent. I understand why you might see it like that, given the email exchange you had we our booking office.
Everything that was said to you, was said in good faith as we did have issues with our DropBox in the past week and it was an oversight that we did not realize that your folder was missing.
It turned out that the photos from your tour somehow got lost during the uploading process that happens at the end of every day.
As mentioned in our last email, our finance department has issued a refund for the price of the pictures and you should receive it shortly.
We hope that you had a good time at Silfra despite this unpleasant inconvenience.

Silfra has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and today, I made it happen!!
Dive.is was phenomenal all around. I was a bit apprehensive as both my husband and I are on the plus size side of things and we were both worried the equipment wouldn't fit us properly. Boy were we wrong!! I wasn't even in the largest size they had available and all the gear was in incredible shape. From the cozy jumpsuit to the dry suit to the fins and mask. The entire site staff was involved with making sure everyone had what they needed and that everyone was comfortable in their gear before heading to the water.
We had Silvia as our guide and as soon as we introduced ourselves, I was in love. She was bubbly, hilarious and made sure everyone was having a good time through every step of the tour.
After the briefing, our small group of 6, plus Silvia our guide, made the short walk to the water where Silvia put on our fins and masks for us as our hands were in gloves. She then guided us into the water and made sure we were all comfortable in the water before proceeding.
THE WATER!!! OMG!!! You see pictures, but nothing compares to seeing this wonder with your own eyes. It was a cloudy, slightly rainy, day and it didn't affect visibility or colors at all!! The slow current helped us drift down the fissure and allowed us to take it all in. Silvia did an incredible job with the camera, snapping pics both up close and of the gorgeous landscape. If you're on the fence about adding on the photo package... DO IT! Because your hands are in thick gloves for warmth, it's very difficult/impossible to use your own camera. And honestly, you'll enjoy your time more if you aren't worried about taking pics the whole time. The pictures were emailed to us the same day and Dive.is included some stunning stock photos as well!! Well over 300 photos in all!
They have a great set up with their changeroom van and all our belongings were secure. Like I said, the gear was in excellent shape and neither my husband or I got a single drop of water inside our dry suits. That's pretty damn impressive!! The hot chocolate and cookies at the end was an excellent touch and allowed us to hangout with other guests and our guide for a bit, which was a blast.
I would absolutely recommend this tour, this company and my favorite guide, Silvia. Splurge, do it, experience swimming in the fissure between the two continents. I would do it again tomorrow if I had the time. You won't regret it.

I was determined to do something different for my birthday so spent my mid-century snorkeling the mid Atlantic rift! Chose dive.is based on other reviews and preference for using a full diving company not a tour operator. Equipment was good, booking and instructions clear and pretty easy. We had "typical" March Icelandic weather - cold and windy! Not as cold as it could have been but ya ITS COLD. Worst part is not the snorkel as that isnt that long and once you are suited up you are dry and fairly comfortable. The cold part is the long period of time to get everyone into the drysuit equipment. You spend most of this outside partly dressed so its easy to get very cold in advance. Wear as many layers as you can and i would recommend "hotshots" in your socks!! There were some delays that seemed like they could have been avoided with either more personnel or a bit more organization but we all survived it. The snorkel itself is very easy and requires little to no effort (just an adjustment to being in a drysuit). The water is very clear so you can see the fissure and appreciate the unique place that you are in the world in that moment. Our guide Jake was very personable and helpful when asked for assistance.

Dive.is has thought of everything to make this tour enjoyable and smooth for its customers. Charly was our guide and he did a phenomenal job! There were four of us together plus another couple for a total of 6 in our group. To be honest, when we first arrived, a large group of about 8–10 people walked up and I was really hoping our group would not be so big. It wasn’t. Another guide took them. Charly did a wonderful job explaining everything to us and even included some Viking and geological history to make it even more fun. He was very kind, attentive and really made sure everyone was taken care of and all questions were answered. There was even a separate, dedicated bus set up as a mobile dressing room! Once in the water, he checked on everyone regularly and took pictures as well that he later uploaded to a Dropbox account. These photos do cost extra but the fee is not much and well worth it. They provided dry suits and thermal jumpsuits to go under them. We were totally dry when we got out of the suits and we weren’t very cold at all even though the water was a cool 36 degrees F. Your face is cold at first but it goes numb after a few minutes. Once out of the water you are dry and don’t feel cold at all. The water was crystal clear and the underwater scenery was deep blue in several places. It was gorgeous! We all drank some too. It was so pure and fresh! Highly recommend this tour!

Me and three other friends of mine booked this snorkeling silfra activity after reading great reviews. The reviews were right! The experience was like no other. It was my first time doing a dry suit snorkel and our guide Alexis was very friendly and informative. He was able to thoroughly explain to use how to put on the dry suits and all other necessary equipment. It was quite cold during the briefing but once you get in the water, it’s actually warmer. The dry suits will keep you afloat at all times so you won’t be able to swim down or sink. It was a great experience swimming in between the two tectonic plates. The water was clear and the view was beautiful. I would definitely come back to do the dive once I get my dry suit certification!

Yes you can. We had a goPro. Bring something to fasten it to you though; it may be difficult to hold with the gloves they give you. It's a wonderful experience!

What is the reason for 12 year old min age to snorkel?
Written 12 August 2023
That’s a question for the outfitter but I am sure it is safety related and due to very cold water and size of wet suits and masks
Written 13 August 2023
I am a weak swimmer and usually opt for a floatation device when snorkeling. Is the dry suit sufficient or are there floatation devices available?
Written 10 July 2023
Hello. The dry suit is more than enough. No problems. Just bare the cold a bit, but really fun. Enjoy
Written 10 July 2023
I am looking at booking the snorkeling for our trip in June and I just wanted to make sure that for snorkeling only there is no PADI or certifications required to do this excursion is that correct?
Written 25 March 2023
That's correct. No certificates are needed to snorkel. We had a group of 6 with a very experienced dive instructor. It felt very safe and you stay on the surface.
Written 27 March 2023
Hello,
We are scheduled to go on the snorkel trip tomorrow. Can you tell me if you provide transportation or do we drive? We do have a car.
Please let me know. We are closest to bus stop number 8.
Thank you,

There are two tours, a self drive and one with a bus from Reykjavik. I reviewed the self drive because my wife and I had a car and we’re staying in Selfoss.

How does one get to Silfra without a car? Are there buses?
Written 19 August 2021
You can either meet at a pickup point in Reykjavik and they drive you to the site, or if you have your own car you can drive yourself there.
