- seniorg1010 contributionsA walk with a VikingOur guide was well informed and knowledgable about the culture and history of Reykjavik. Unfortunately we had to leave the tour after a couple of hours due to another commitment.Written 10 October 2024
- MaryNormal0 contributionsGreat Walking TourGreat information about the history and culture of Iceland and Reykjavik. Our guide, Help, kept us interested and informed. Would recommend this as a great introduction to Iceland if it is your first time there.Written 9 October 2024
- CathyD22370 contributionsPurrfect tourOur tour guide Bardi was the best. We had a lovely stroll through downtown Reykjavik where we were introduced to the Shop cats. The Cat Cafe was the high point of the tour. For once, I wasn't the only one stopping to get photos of the cats.Written 8 October 2024
- Debbie d0 contributions4 stars for the Guide! Our tour guide, Palli, & his informative talks is the main reason I'm giving this tour 4stars. I expected more interesting traditional food. The tour descrition stated 10 types of food & it's disappointing that half if them were all in a candy store. Cost of tour wasn't justified.Written 8 October 2024
- 362sharie0 contributionsExcellentVery insighful experience. Einar was articulate and had a great sense of humor. It was very thoughtful of him to send a photo log following the tour so we have a pictorial memory. The tastings were plentiful and included some "interesting" morsels. Highly recommend this tour.Written 8 October 2024
- 682warwickd0 contributionsExcellent, informative and includes singingAn excellent tour by Einar Steinn Valgarðsson and I will return to go on another tour. The tour was relaxed and very informative, many things you would never read in a book or guide were included. Einar made it very comfortable and personal and wow has he got a great voice (come on the tour just for that).Written 8 October 2024
- P821LCchristined0 contributionsAwesome experience! Our guide was awesome! We learned about cats but so so much more about iceland, it's history, and modern practices. I highly recommend this tour!Written 8 October 2024
- Mandinkadell0 contributionsSuper informative and fun!!!We ended up taking 2 tours with Your Friend In Reykjavik on our recent trip. Our first trip was a drinking/Beer tour and our guide was Helgi. Helgi was so amazing and accommodating. He took us to the different bar locations, but catered the samplings of beers to our likings. We met a few locals, as well, as Helgi is just so personable and easy for anyone to strike up a conversation with. Helgi had a lot of interesting stories about history, but also about the recent history of Reykjavik as he has lived there his entire life. Our second tour was the Walking with a Viking Tour and our guide was Einar. Einar is a great storyteller and this tour was very informative. There was someone in the group that had mobility issues and Einar made sure to tell this person ahead of time exactly what was coming up at each turn and even slowed down to be sure this person was included in all conversations and stories. I would highly suggest both of these tours and would highly suggest both of these guides for your visit to Reykjavik!Written 7 October 2024
- cocoporter0 contributionsA delicious day touring Reykjavik with PalI love food, it gives me great joy, and I love trying new recipes. I also love visiting new places and learning about the history of the folk and their traditions and I also love a good storyteller. This tour checked all the boxes for me. The guide, Pal, a weathered fisherman, tall with white flowing locks, could play the part of Santa in a movie. Pal, was wonderful, a great storyteller, and loved his native Iceland, and its food. He kept us entertained and informed with great stories of his life as a fisherman, and the history of his beautiful town and brought us to the best eateries in town. I tried everything and I was blown away by the taste of it all. I even tried (and smelled - eeuuu!) the fermented shark, and as tradition goes, I chewed it twice, swallowed and washed it down with a shot of Snapps! Don't be scared, the stories are worst than its bite ;-)Written 7 October 2024

- stephenhP4285OY0 contributionsgreat sweet tooth tourWe went on the bakery/ candy tour. Our guide was Mathias and he was very good and laid back. We stopped by several places in the downtown area visiting bakeries, a Greek donut shop, ice cream shop, and a restaurant for cheesecake with skyr. We also visited a gift shop to sample different flavors of licorice. My husband and I were the only people on the tour and we had plenty of time for conversation with Mathias. We talked about the history of Iceland and everyday life there.Written 2 October 2024

If you’re looking for something different to do in Iceland and would like to go off the beaten track, we really recommend this mythical walk.
Snædís was our host and she really brought the stories to life and made the tour fun.
This is not only a great way to hear some stories past down for many generations, but an interesting look into the Icelandic way of thinking and how the stories affect current day practices. After all, Icelanders are famous for their story telling ever since the Viking times.

(March 13, 2022) This was the most whimsical, fun, informative tour touching on several aspects of Icelandic folklore & history. It ranged from local ghost stories, to the remarkably amenable Reykjavik elves, to learning about both the settlement and more recent independence history and admired figures of Iceland. Our tour guide Gundmundur (whose name I probably shamefully have wrong, apologies!) was a very engaging and informative host. We loved the full hour and a half with him. There were many nooks and crannies we never would have seen otherwise (like the gardens behind Parliament, which comes with a unique, hilarious, and macabre legend! Suffice to say, it’s not worth the process to become a rich man through other than honest means.) He also walked us by beautiful views of the city with context about modern times, too. This tour elevated our Reykjavik experience beyond the usual fare limited to oft-traveled museums, restaurants, and shopping. Easy to work in between a day of busy coastal tours and your evening plans, this was an excellent unique adventure that I hope every traveler with a spare late afternoon adds to their itinerary.

Great fun and really informative too. A bit of Icelandic tradition, folklore and jokes. Snaedis Aka ‘Snowfairy’ was great. The walk was just over 2 hours for us (as we were a chatty group)! The walk length was just about right with interesting information given. We left this until our last evening, but would recommend doing it early on in during your trip as it gives you an idea of the area as well as some fab information from the guide about where to eat and visit. For the length of the tour and the fun it was well worth the price. Thanks Snowfairy!! 🥰

We had an awesome time on our Folklore Walking Tour.
Our guide was full of stories about Hidden People and zombies, and I especially appreciated a stop in an old cemetery. It was a really cool intro to Iceland to begin a much longer trip. It takes place all outdoors so although some people did not wear masks my partner and I (fully vaccinated) felt very safe.
I know it's hard to project voices, especially outside (I am a performer myself and have done tours in Boston), but due to COVID where people may not want to gather very closely it is my advise that tour guides speak up even more than they already do so there may be less leaning in/crowding around.
Content and delivery were fantastic. We are still laughing at some of our tour guide's joke. Highly recommend going to anyone planning a trip.

We wanted an entertaining way of learning about the culture in Iceland that would also hold the attention of our 15 year old and ten year old children. This tour did not disappoint. Snaesa was a fantastic guide, she really engaged with the children and answered their many questions, from school life in bad weather to other things that were more relevant to the tour. Snaesa was attentive enough to check with us as parents about how sensitive the children were to the stories so that she could make them age appropriate, and told all the stories in a light but engaging way whilst walking us around her beautiful city, pointing out not only key sites but also people of interest. She was very knowledgeable, incredibly polite and good fun. We fully recommend this tour for like minded people with or without children.

I am not normally a person who writes reviews, but this tour was so good, I wanted to let people know.
We signed up for this tour as a family of five - an 18 year old child, a 13 year old and a 6 year old. There was something for everyone on this tour. Our guide Stephan was so knowledgeable and entertaining - the 90 minutes sped by and we found ourselves wishing it had lasted much longer. He answered the contatant barrage of questions from all the kids in the group. The walking was easy and we saw parts of the city we would not have otherwise been to. Highly recommend this experience.

We took this tour because we thought it would help keep us awake as we waited to check into our room after a red-eye flight from Minneapolis. We weren’t disappointed. There were only four people on the tour, but the guide, though laid back and “low-key,” was engaging. He made it a point to involve us all personally by asking us about ourselves and our reactions to many of his stories. We came away not only learning about Icelandic folklore but also appreciating why it is important to the nation. We highly recommend this tour.

We had a fabulous walking tour today with Styrmir. Styrmir was incredibly friendly and personable. He made the tour feel very personalised and he acted out the stories with flair and enthusiasm. Absolutely loved the tour. It is a great way to see the city and learn about the Icelandic stories of elves, gods and zombies.

My son and I loved this tour! Our tour guide, Stefan, did an amazing job keeping our group completely engaged with his stories and his sense of humor. At one point he sang a few Icelandic lullabies and he had such a wonderful singing voice I was wishing he would continue to sing throughout the tour! We learned so many fascinating tales, and had a chance to see parts of Reykjavik we had not seen. We also stopped at a very cool cemetery where he told a memorable spooky story! I highly recommend this tour! Ask for Stefan!

What a fun experience! Stefan is an asset to the company! He seems so calm but when he started telling the stories...we can't help but to stay focused! We had a pretty large group but yet he remembered our names and try to engage with each one of us! The guy sung a couple of traditional songs during his awesome stories and man...that guy can sing! My Wife and I enjoyed our walking tour very much so! Definitely would recommend!
