Wow!!!!!!!!
Nov 2021
Regarded by some tour guides as a "dirty tour" because your fee does not guarantee what you have paid to see. You have to approach it with a low degree of expectation and regard it as a bonus if you see something. It is highly dependent on a number of factors coming together at the same time that includes dark skies, clear skies, high geo-magnetic activity, higher intensity of solar flares and to a certain degree your night vision. Luck has to be on your side.
I arrived the Thursday and it was too much of a rush with other trips; turns out the NL trips were cancelled this night anyway. I booked on for the Friday but Arctic Adventures cancelled this due to the forecast and Sat/Sun were not looking good either due to approaching storms so I rearranged for the Monday night. Fred was my guide (name translates as Peace Thief but resigns himself to Fred as very difficult to pronounce) and it appears Fred may have upset the Elves. We headed south-west out of the city and Fred spent a short while looking for the Lights. Two snow flurries later he decided to call it a night as things didn't look promising. I spoke to other people the following day who had seen them later on. Despite Fred's earlier enthusiasm the bonus of him throwing the towel in early was we got back at a reasonable time and had the option to rebook for free the only downside being I had to contact the office and was due on another trip at 8am.
I called office at 7am and was booked on for the Tuesday night which was my 6th and final night so I was in the last chance saloon. My guide was Frimann and the start was not good as his colleague had called in sick so was having to operate a larger group plus we had a slight mishap with the bus and an agitated tour guide from another group. We headed north-east, found clear skies and just when you felt like everything was about to be lost it all started to happen. Even an experienced guide like Frimann described the event as magical and he has not seen better. What started off as a band of white cloud slowly had a hint of green gradually turning to bright green and yellow. The intensity grew then faded. It changed shape to a sine curve then broke up to dance. It returned with pinks added. I think our smiles were brighter than the full moon as we knew how lucky we had been. I regard myself as difficult to impress but the experience left me buzzing.
I must have been one of the few that couldn't get my phone camera to work on night mode but thankfully Frimann was taking photos so that I have an everlasting memory of what was the best possible end to a fantastic holiday. Wonderful that these photos are included in the tour. Please be mindful that you need to stand still and only move when told to when the photo is being taken due to the shutter speed as any movement will blur the photo.
Big thank you to Frimann!!!

Dear CgMn, We would just like to thank you for taking the time to write this review of the Northern Lights tour with us. You are absolutely right. Northern Lights is a natural phenomena, so when booking a Northern Lights tour you should have in mind, that it is not always guaranteed that you will see the magical lights. However, we let our customers to rebook the tour one time if the lights were not seen. We are very sorry for these inconveniences you had. We are very glad that you still managed to see the Norther Lights before your leave. Thank you for mentioning our guides. We are sure they will be more than happy to read your kind words. Your review means a lot to us and lets us know we’re on the right track! We hope to have you back soon for more great adventures with us. Warm wishes from Iceland.

Great tour guide-We found the Aurora!
Nov 2021
Becca was a Great tour guide- worked very hard to find the Aurora - and we did!
We had gone out the night before on the Jeep tour with no luck so got to rebook this one for free. The night before we only went to one stop! We did multiple stops looking for the Aurora with Becca. I think that’s why we had success. She was also super friendly and told Norse stories on the way back

I will say that the other tours we took with Arctic adventures had very long waits for, pickups. They have apparently sold some of their tours to,other operators and that was not always smooth. But Becca was great!

SCAM. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. DID NOT PICK US UP AND WILL NOT REFUND

SCAM!

Booked and paid for, waited for over 2 hours and they did not pick us up for the Northern Lights.

Customer service is a complete joke, there is not 1 regular rep. Every new rep comes and goes without understanding the situation.

They end up just lying to keep your money saying they were waiting...even though a previous rep said it was cancelled and they did not rebook it correctly.

If you read the proper reviews on Trust Pilot, you will realise how much of a scam this company is and therefore avoid.

You will find much better, more professional tour guide companies!!

Terrible service
Oct 2021 • Solo
Their refund policy is atrocious. I was left waiting for 1 hour in the cold to be picked up for my Northern Lights tour. Technical issues plagued the voiceover on the way to the site. The tour barely lasted more than one hour, let alone the 4+ hours stated. They only offered to re-book my trip which is useless as I'm leaving Iceland and probably won't be back for years. Complete waste of money if you expect to have any issues.

We booked the whale tour and northern lights tour. In the evening, we waited for an hour for our bus to come to collect us. However it didn’t arrive, there was a bus for artic adventures but the driver said another bus was coming for us. We waited and no bus came so we rang the office but there was nobody to answer the phones. It was cold outside and after an hour of waiting we gave up. The other bus companies picked everyone up on time.

Pointless, Poor Value Tour
Feb 2020
Iceland is a wonderful country with breathtaking scenery but this pointless and thoroughly miserable excursion was by far the lowest point of an otherwise perfect 3 x day visit.
It soon became obvious, as the evening progressed, that due to cloud cover, there was scant chance of seeing any northern lights, yet our gloomy driver persisted in keeping us out in the freezing cold wind for three and a half dreary and uninteresting hours. The minibus door was faulty from pick-up and the bitter air filled the inside of the van rendering the heating utterly useless so everyone quickly became unbearably cold. The young girl sitting behind us was quite distressed and pleaded with her parents to go back to the hotel - we all felt the same but the driver/guide seemed oblivious and insisted that we remain on the excursion, we all assumed that he was concerned that his payment might be less if he ended the tour prematurely.
This was a sheer waste of the £69 per head fee (there were 3 of us) and considering we had so enjoyed a full day Golden Circle tour costing £42 per head - this proved to be not only a dreadful experience, but it was the poorest value trip that I have ever had the misfortune to take part in.

Fantastic Effort from the guides.
Dec 2019 • Solo
The minibus tour is not going to offer you hot chocolate and cookies but you do get free pictures and great guides, Corbie and Freeman (who seems as crazy about the Aurora Borealis as the tourists) who go out of their way to catch the lights. I went twice as I didnt see the lights the first trip despite a fantastically clear night sky.It was minus 12 degrees and quite an experience. The sencond trip was on a cloudy but much warmer night, only minus 3. We saw the lights and Freeman took pictures as quickly as he could. You can download these pictures from a link on your ticket to formation. Highly recommend.

Successful trip second time around but almost got jipped
Dec 2019
I chose this company because it was recommended by one of my favourite travel bloggers. I did the northern lights tour by minibus and they offer a free second chance if the lights are not seen the first time you go, which most companies here do offer. You can choose the night you want based on the weather conditions.

The first night we went, we couldn't see the lights at all with our naked eyes but through the tour guides fancy camera, a slight bit of green did show up. He took some photos of us anyway and we drove around to a few different locations and had the same result. When I enquired after the tour about how to book another night considering the circumstances I was basically told it did count as seeing them and I would not be eligible for a re-try which I thought was a super sketchy. Upon trying the link to re-book it was disabled because it came up with a message that the lights were seen on my particular tour.

I don't want to make this too long but basically I called up the company to explain the situation and I was able to book another night free of charge. I hope this helps at least a few people because it would suck to miss out on seeing the lights!

Other than this issue, the second tour was good, the guide was patient and always made sure we had enough photos before we left the spots. The only other thing was that the main spot we were at had a big pipe and telegraph pole in the background (so all the photos had it in there) - not sure if it was because that was the only place that was clear of clouds at that time but I would have thought that surely there would be a place with a nicer background to see them!

Dear ella2478, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us. We are sorry that you had difficulties with our online system, we are constantly working on improving it. Regarding the location, it changes every night as our guides go to the forecasted sky clearances and unfortunately it's not always in the most picturesque places. Anyway, the goal is to see the Aurora Borealis! We hope you made some great memories in Iceland despite the situation and to see you again in the future. :)

Aurora tours are not value for £, but this is good as can be expected
Given the uncertainty of the lights appearing, openings in the clouds at the right time, height, direction etc and the little an untrained tourist’s eye can see, I don’t think northern lights tours are good value for money. Essentially you drive or stand around in the dark for 4-5 hours and may see some faint white movement in the sky. For about the same price, you can spend 8-9 hours on a tour which visits Gullfoss, Thingvellir national park, Geysir/Strokkur & Secret Lagoon, with lots to see on the way.

With that (massive) caveat, Frimann gave us the best tour possible with the weather limitations. He knows his stuff, explains enough on the way for tourists to understand the difficulty of what he is trying to do to find the lights & has some stories about every town you pass due to growing up in the area. He took a nice photo of us, which shows the lights that we couldn’t see with our eyes. Hence 4*
