Highlights
Ride across glaciers on this snowmobiling adventure, from Reykjavik
Cruise across an ice cap, and descend into the insides of a glacial cave
Get a great value, with riding gear, guide, and shared snowmobile included
Convenient, air-conditioned pickup and drop-off from Reykjavik—included
What to expect
After early morning pickup from your downtown Reykjavik hotel or guest house, travel by comfortable, air-conditioned super truck — a large 4x4 specially adapted to drive on glacier ice — to the snowmobile base station on Langjökull glacier, Iceland’s second-biggest ice cap. On arrival, take in the views over the sparkling glacier and be shown to your modern snowmobile. Then, listen to a safety briefing, and don the provided snowmobiling gear, including a thermal coverall, balaclava, helmet, and gloves. Get instructions on operating your vehicle, and when you’re ready, set off in a small group of six travelers or fewer, led by a certified glacier guide. Cruise over the glacier and as you gain in confidence, open the throttle and pick up speed. Zip over the ice, and soak in the far-reaching views over the surrounding snow fields and mountains. Following about 30 minutes on your snowmobile, arrive at the ice cave, and walk to the entrance. Then, descend into the depths to admire the blue ice. Learn about the glacier’s formation and how the layers of ice form its heart, and take photos of the surreal-looking, icy world around you. After approximately 15 minutes spent exploring the cave, re-emerge onto the glacier and hop back on your snowmobile. Then, rev the engine and enjoy the return 30-minute ride back over the ice to the base station. Your full-day tour finishes with a drop-off back at your accommodation in central Reykjavik.

TERRIBLE (WORST EVER) TOUR COMPANY!! NEVER HIRE THEM!
Mar 2020
On March/2020, I schedule the snowmobill tour and ice cave for 5 people. We drove over an hour to get to the pick up location and we boarded on their truck.

When we got to glacier, we were informed that due to the bad weather on the previous day, the ice caving would not be possible and we were would get a refund.

A few days later after the ride, I opened a ticket to request my refund (around March 15th, 2020). Their reply was the refund would take place within 6-8 weeks.

After the period, I contacted them again requesting my refund. NO REFUND!!!!

They kept postponing every single time I contacted them until they got the approval from the Iceland Government to NOT PAY ANY REFUNDS.

They ARE STEALING MY MONEY! They requested 8 weeks, did not pay it and kept my money until they had the official document saying they don't have to pay.

They are still running their business, but they are not capable to save some to make any refunds.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER BUY ANY TOUR WITH THIS COMPANY! THEY STEAL YOUR MONEY DESPITE MAKING MONEY.

EIGHT MONTHS LATER AND THEY HAVE RESPONDED THEY ARE NOT PAYING IT (EMAIL RECEIVED ON NOV 3rd, 2020)

Shocking customer care
Cancelled trip in March. Email received saying I would have a response in 7 days. Received an email saying bookings were cancelled and this was reflected on my booking details page. Four trips - all clearly stating - cancelled.

As per terms and conditions when booking made, refund in 7 days. Then told 4 weeks. Then told up to 6-8 weeks. It’s now ten weeks. Now being told in a queue.

Today (10 weeks) received an email saying I did not cancel the trips and they sent a form back in March. They did not. If it was not cancelled, why does my account say cancelled, why did I receive an email saying it’s cancelled, and why do they email me saying the refund is in a queue.

It seems to me that they are just holding onto valued customers money, and are doing everything they can to change the terms and condition on the hoof. Beware. The terms and conditions that you sign up to when you book will not be the ones that will apply to you.

If like me you are having to queue in food banks to feed a family of five (lost my job), even begging for a resolution and a quick refund will fall on deaf ears.

Pointless emailing them. If you ask a question they don’t address the points raised. That’s if you get a response.

This company has given Iceland a very poor reputation and has no compassion whatsoever.

Dear petek667, Thank you for reaching out to us. We understand your frustration and can assure you that our customer care team is providing all the available information to you as well as any other customer. Please rest assured, we have no intention of keeping funds for non-provided services. Unfortunately, the work of our finance department, as well as our company in general, has been highly affected by COVID-19. The spread of the crisis resulted in thousands of cancellations and most of our staff being laid off. Our finance department is operating by 25% of their previous capacity and is struggling with a backlog. Refunds are being issued with a significant delay. At this point, we can only thank you for your patience and ask you to give it a bit more time. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Poor handling of cancellation requests.
I have cancelled an April family tour early in March (due to Covid19). First, we were promised to receive a full refund up to four weeks later; then six to eight. Today we've started week number ten and we still haven't received the refund. I think those guys don't realise how damaging not answering to customers' emails is. Really poor experience.

Dear drd1977, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. It is true that our refund process is currently delayed and we are working to resolve this as fast as we can. Unfortunately, due to the current circumstances it's taking longer than we expected and we cannot advise on a specific date. We understand the situation is not ideal and we apologize for this frustrating experience. If you are worried at all we can always check your booking and your request - you just need to e-mail us and we will get back to you. We can assure you that our customer care team answers everybody as fast as possible. It can be that a reply will take longer on weekends, but if you have not heard back from us in several days, we encourage you to reach out to us again by sending a new message. Once again, we apologize for this troublesome experience.

An expensive, BORING waste of a day
Dec 2019
You'll spend 6 hours, if you're lucky on a bus. What you see is no natural wonder. It's a tunnel cut out of the ice with chainsaws, essentially.

To make matters worse, I really don't want to be lectured about the climate by a scientifically ignorant school girl who gets almost every fact wrong.

A complete waste of a day, and a LOT of money down the toilet.

Snowmobiling Was amazing. Ice cave not so much
Mar 2020
The snowmobiling part of this tour was a blast. I loved being on the glacier and getting to see such a spectacular view. The ice cave was very small and very underwhelming. I chose this tour because I really wanted to see an ice cave. I wouldnt count what we saw as an ice cave. Snowmobiling was super fun though, really glad I did it.

Do not go if you want to see Ice Cave
Mar 2020 • Couples
Promised was thrilling experience in the most unique ice cave there is.

The reality - one tiny cave, unable to fit 20 people sitting inside.

----
Tour starts at Gullfoss meeting point, from here you are seated in one of the "super jeep" vans with huge wheels to take you to Arctic adventures base camp near the glacier. Here you get all geared up (warm clothing, helmets, googles and even boots - only these are paid, other gear is included).
You are then shortly briefed on how to operate snow mobile and good to go.

20 minute ride on snow mobile to the cave is rather slow (max 25kmh) due to big group size (more than 20 people).
The team on this tour was great, all the guys are friendly and very helpful.
All this was great, except the speed which is understandable.

Then you arrive at the cave, go down hole digged in snow and find yourself in super tiny cave, where you need to crowl because of its height and when all of the tour participants get in, you have nowhere to move - see the photo.

----

I consider this a tourist scam, using "ice cave" sign for this little hole.

Beautiful Scenery but Not A Small Group Experience
Feb 2020
We went on the Arctic Adventure Snowmobile and Ice Cave tour 2 weeks ago. I recommend bringing your own balaclava if you have one as the ones they provide had a strong odor. After we dressed we were told that we would not be going to the ice cave due to water flooding inside the cave. We had been with our guide for about 2 hours at this point and this was news to most of us. As encouraged by the guide we did reach out to Arctic Adventures who replied that we would be refunded for the ice cave portion of the trip.
We were interested in a small group experience and read in the description " small group of six travelers or fewer, led by a certified glacier guide." This, however, was not our experience. There were 30 snowmobiles in one long line. There were 5 glacier guides, but we needed to stay in the line and told not to pass the person in front of us. Therefore, you only could go as fast as the person in front of you. We drove for approximately 25 minutes, stopped for pictures for about 20 minutes and then returned to base camp. While I am glad I did the excursion next time I would definitely confirm what is meant in regards to group size to ensure maximum enjoyment.

Fun day
I booked this tour through Arctic Adventures. We were picked up from our hotel within the time frame. It was over a two hour drive until we reached Gullfoss and the super Jeeps which took us up to the glacier and the Arctic Adventures base camp. We then changed into our gear and were given a lesson on how to use the snowmobile. Luckily the weather was nice since later groups were getting canceled due to poor visibility. The ride was about 20 minutes to the ice cave which was pretty cool, definitely cramped for 24 people to get into. After a few minutes there we headed back to the snowmobiles and back to base camp. It was a large group but the guides made sure everyone made it there and back ok. There is no food on this tour so be sure to bring some snacks. Everyone we interacted with was nice and professional. Overall, a fun day.

Unlike some of the reviews we had a great experience. We were lucky and were in a small group. The staff were really nice and our tour guide Herman was lovely. The whole experience was amazing and the glacier was beautiful. Definitely recommend!
