About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- jam3shughes0 contributionsWhat a beautiful trip!Ritchie and Pacco were fantastic guides and drivers. They had a wealth of local knowledge and from how they acted and passionately spoke about areas during the trip you could tell they loved doing this job. Iceland in winter is incredible and Ritchie with Paccos incredible driving managed to get us to see a couple of extra secluded spots along the way. The information through the QR code Ritchie had complied was fantastic and allowed those that didn’t speak Icelandic or English to still feel involved and not like they were missing out. If you’re wanting to come to Iceland the Golden Circle and the guys who run these tours are the people to go to. Thank you guys!Written 9 December 2024
- shannena4510 contributionsJeff & driver!!I think our tour guys name was Jeff! He was brilliant, after a little commotion trying to arrange busses and people on the right ones we got on the road a little later but the whole day made up for it and it wasn’t too bad. Everyone was sat on the busses instead of in the cold whilst people were switched from groups depending on the tour they were doing! This was brilliant as it was freezing outside!! He was very informative, really chatty and helpful, gave so much advice and information about everything, from the driving to the locations we were going, he gave his advice on where to stand at certain places and was just overall a really lovely guide! Me and my partner had the best day, we would definitely recommend this tour. The driver was brilliant too, drove in some tough conditions but did so really well, we all felt safe, it wasn’t crazy and like a rollercoaster, he was very mindful and got us everywhere we needed to, on time and happy! Really really pleasant trip and we were so pleased we would definitely do it again!!Written 8 December 2024
- shannena4510 contributionsThe aurora whispererOur guide “Daniel” I think his name was or other wise known as the Aurora whisperer was brilliant. I think we booked through get your guide so not 100% on the company, but it’s the most recommended one on there. He knew exactly where we needed to get to, our first stop had us all amazed. We seen them!! Odds were stacked against us, and it wasn’t looking brilliant but, non the less we stopped twice and seen them! The second time we stopped for a while. He was really informative, gave us all the info we needed regarding pictures and how best to capture them, whether it be iPhone, android or camera. All the information about the northern lights themselves, what they are, how they work and the best ways to find them. We had hot chocolate on our second stop! We did the 9:30 tour so it was COLD and I mean colder than anything I’ve ever known, be sure to take warm things!! I absolutely loved it, a dream come true. The music was just fitting, everything was well thought out and planned, a credit to the company. The only comment we would make (not me particularly I was over the moon regardless just for seeing them) but my partner, was a bit deflated that we only stopped twice and the second time was for quite some time we get we probably could have got another spot in, (whether this was because the guide didn’t think we would see them else where or not we’re not sure) but over 4 hours we only stopped twice to get out the bus. Thats however the only thing we would note that could be worth examining. Overall, definitely do it! And if you don’t see them they guarantee you a free chance again!! Really really worth it!! Completely made our trip!!Written 8 December 2024
- Williamstravelers0 contributionsBeautiful views on golden circle tour - rude tour guide. Not impressed by the way we watched several paying customers be spoken to by our female tour guide. Firstly, we were picked up at 11.05 when the time frame is 10.30-11am. Then she shouted down the bus telling people to hurry up and sit down else we can’t leave…when they were already late to pick us up? Next, we headed to meet a bus to collect more customers. We sat until 11.20 with no communication from her as to what was going on? We didn’t get on the road until 11.30am. Her first time talking through the microphone she turned around and said to the customers directly behind her (at the front) ‘you’re going to have to stop talking whilst I am or I’m going to have to move you to the back’ in a really condescending and abrupt tone - all of us up front who heard were gobsmacked at the rudeness! She was abrupt and rude the entire trip and would not stop talking about herself. Fortunately, the stops gave us free time to wander off and do our own thing away from her. The landscape is beautiful but in future I would pay extra for a different tour with a kinder tour guide and I suggest you do the same if considering booking.Written 8 December 2024
- mihaelar7220 contributionsChasing Aurora and catching it !!!Chasing Aurora and catching it !!! Lena was our guide and she offered us amazing facts about how aurora is formed, how experts read forecasts and find the best viewing spots. Our bus driver, Laurent, an experienced and professional driver, maked sure that we have a safe journey through icy, strong windy roads in the dark Icelandic wilderness. Lena explained us how it is the best way to spot an Aurora and how to film/photograph it. Black night, amazing sky and 400 people waiting for Aurora Borealis. And the warm hat, gloves, thick socks and good boots HELPED A LOT ! And we caught it !!!! When we were almost frozen, some of us gone back to bus to drink some hot tea. Sitting in the dark, cozy, with our hands on the cup of hot tea, Laurent, our driver, told us old mythical stories about Iceland. It was a very nice surprise ! On our way back, Lena and Laurent showed us the Icelandic Christmas spirit and we are grateful for that ! Thank YouWritten 8 December 2024

- RiflemanHarris0 contributionsGreat Trip and Lovely LightsWe had a superb trip to see the Northern Lights on 1 December in a small group. Micheal, our guide, was fabulous explaining how the phenomenon occurred and what was importantly for a good show. We visited 3 locations and saw the Northern Lights in all 3. Our photos that Michael took were fab and he gave is tips for taking out own. Michael was really on the ball, making sure we got to the locations in an efficient manner as the light show was expected to fade during the evening. He was right as they faded as we left the last place and a quick stop at a 4th place showed that they had gone for the evening. He really made the most of the time we had. The hot chocolate was lovely and very welcome as it was -12C that evening.Written 8 December 2024

- magspencer0 contributionsGolden circle tour in DecemberWe had Noi (Noah) and a lovely driver Wieslaw today for our tour on the 7th December 2024. Firstly, our driver Wieslaw was extremely safe and there were no points where his driving felt uncomfortable. He was very mindful of the weather conditions :) Noi was a wonderful tour guide and made each and every stop so special and memorable. He was even able to make a service station interesting! He was very kind to us as a group, ensured we got the most out of each stop, and made sure we were all catered to on the trip. He had fantastic knowledge of his wonderful country, and made it such a great day. Thank you to both Noi and the driver for a wonderful experience :) bus Iceland travel are a great company if you’re considering booking a trip (any trips that they offer). This was our second trip with them and this was as good as the first (south Iceland coast tour). Many thanks!Written 7 December 2024

Really great tour with excellent tour guide. Everything was extremely well planned and throughout the day our tour guide kept up to date on the storm approaching and made sure we were able to see everything on the itinerary. We were safely back in Reykjavík before the storm arrived. The glacier is incredible - we touched 1,000 year old ice! This is a great tour company.

There are not enough words to describe how amazing this journey to glacier bay was. This is a long day but it is beyond worth it, it was one of the most magical experiences of my life and I am very well traveled. I can't thank BusTravel enough for everything. The ease of just booking an adventure and not having to deal with anything else but a great bus ride with a rewarding finish.... add wifi, chargers and a seat comfortable enough for a great nap in-between stops.. That is if you want to nap while tour guide, Halla, (The best around) not only gives us some much valuable information about Iceland but keeps you so entertained with her stories and legends you may not want to nap at all!
The stops along the way were all special in their own way, but one we arrived at glacier bay I couldn't help but splurge and take the boat ride into the lagoon! They even picked up a small piece of glacier ice and broke it up on the boat so we can enjoy a piece of super old ice! This was unforgettable especially because I was lucky to see an iceberg FLIP!!
If you get a chance to choose a company that really did everything right from booking, to tour guide, to comfort and attention to detail check these guys out!
I hope you get to enjoy some fish stew or asparagus soup on your journeys, I can't stop thinking about it!
Thank you to all of you!

Get Your Guide, day trip to the south coast from Reykjavik, was spectacular! This was a 14-15 hour long day out, but with so many sight seeing stops, beautiful scenery and pitstops, all along the journey in both directions, it really broke up the duration. It was so not a problem, and we were so glad we did this amazing trip. Again, a wonderful guide, who made the whole experience so interesting, and an unphased professional driver, with challenging weather conditions, was so competent to make you feel really safe. He really was excellent all round, helping us all get even more out of this special day trip. The highlights were of course Diamond Beach, which was incredible, and Glacier Lagoon, which was other worldly. But there was so much more on the trip as well. Highly recommend this trip to see so much of Iceland.

This is a great tour but be prepared for a long day with a lot of bus time but they make plenty of stops for lunch and dinner besides they tour stops. We were picked up early in the morning then headed toward the Southeast coast.
-The Diamond Beach was absolutely beautiful. Our tour went on a great day for "diamonds". The contrast between the black sand and clear ice really highlights the large piece of ice. It ties in with the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon because the smaller Ice makes it way from there to Diamond Beach to the Atlantic Ocean. (Watch out for the occasional high wave when close to the water. It sneaks up on you. We had one that got a lot of people. It went up to my thigh so waterproof boots are kind of useless when the water fills your boots from the top.)
-Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon is absolutely stunning!! I was in awe of how beautiful it is even though it is sad why it exits. You can pay extra to take an amphibian boat out amongst the large icebergs to see them up close.
Both locations begin from the Vatnajökull Glacier (which covers 8% of Iceland) and go down to the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier tongue and out into the Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon. You can see the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier tongue on the drive and from the boat in the Glacial Lagoon.
When we left we drove to Vik for a 40 minute dinner break then stopped by the two waterfalls, Stjórnarfoss & Seljalandsfoss. Since I went in November it gets dark early so the Seljalandsfoss was lit up and you could see so many stars.
The tour guide was great and told lots of stories about the folklore of the island as well as information about sites we passed.

I had the best time on this tour! Despite being a long one (roughly 14-15 hours) with a great deal of driving I honestly didn’t want it to end. It goes without saying that our destinations themselves were exquisite - I could’ve spent all day at Jökulsárlón - but even the hours on the bus went by so quickly thanks to our wonderfully fun and informative tour guide Matt who shared his wealth of knowledge about Icelandic history, culture, geography, and folklore. You can tell he loves what he does and the country he lives in, and his passion was infectious; everyone nearby was listening along as intently as me! He paced his timing well, making sure not to overload us and giving us plenty of time too to nap or zone out. Big shout out too to our driver Paco who expertly navigated the full bus through a blizzard not long after we’d lucked out with clear, sunny skies… good ol’ Iceland weather! The entire ride was safe and comfortable thanks to this superstar duo. We had plenty of rest and food stops, and a great deal of effort was made to give clear instructions/safety advice during our sightseeing stops, with Matt keeping an eye on us and our surroundings. He also made sure to take plenty of photos for us (and our mums :))
I don’t usually love bigger tours (I believe there were around 60 of us) yet highly recommend this one next time you find yourself in this stunning part of the world!

We did this day trip and we had Simon as our guide. One of the best experiences of my life. With regards to the trip per se, although it was a long day the places totally rewarded us. The trip is excellently planned with regular stops for comfort brakes and adaption to the programme takes place based on the weather conditions.
With regards to the guide, he was very well informed, he recommended some amazing places where we had our coffee and dinner. He drove us to some places that were not in the initial itinerary and were beautiful. He was personable and creative and made the day unique. Just to note that in general I prefer to travel without a guide but this day may make me reconsider!

I highly recommend traveling with Bus Travel, especially on this tour. We took this day trip on December 2019. Our guide was Howser and our driver Tomags (sorry in advance for the spelling!). It was pure magic: Diamond beach, Jökulsárlón glacier, Seljalandsfoss waterfall... all worth it! Despite the bad weather conditions, Howser managed to arrange our itinerary to enjoy our day at the fullest. He was impressively knowledgeable about Iceland’s ins and outs. Indeed, he was always down to share one or two anecdotes about his land, which helped us put the locations visited into context! We will surely come back in summer, and get back to Bus Travel. As Howser would say, we’re not tourists... but travelers! Thanks for everything.

I thought I wasn’t one for bus tours , but hands down this was fantastic from start to finish. A long day but really didn’t feel it. Monika kept us entertained and was so informative for the whole day and Lukasz our driving did a sterling job of getting us to each destination.
We even had some extra stops put in as weather ( Monika had ordered it 😊) was so good .

I recently did this day tour from Reykjavik. It is apparently the longest day tour you can do in Iceland and traversed over 800 kms over the course of the day. This trip was done in winter and the scenery was amazing. First major stop was at Seljalandsfoss waterfall. In summer you can walk behind this waterfall but not in winter. Still the setting and scenery were spectacular. From here we travelled to the Glacier Lagoon and then Diamond Beach. The Lagoon was full of icebergs with the backdrop being several Glaciers. Diamond beach was I think the highlight. A black sand beach scattered with a myriad of shapes and sizes of beautiful sparking blue ice. Simon was our guide and driver and he did a great job. Very entertaining over the whole day and did an excellent job driving in what were at times very challenging conditions. A day trip well worth doing.

This tour was absolutely brilliant! It is a very long day, as a lot of distance is covered, but it was perfectly delivered by Michael (the most brilliant driver) and Monika - a truly professional guide. These two were a dream team. Monika created a great atmosphere and managed a great balance, offering interesting information, some lovely Icelandic music and some opportunistic extra stops (and just the right amount of comfort breaks so you never need to worry about getting caught short). She was brilliant at ensuring everyone got back on time from each stop, enabling us to reach the stunning glacier lagoon in daylight and making the most of each incredible location. I would highly recommend this amazing tour.

It did! But it was a test trial to see if the canyon could be included, because it's a full trip. So not all the tours include it.

Do you reckon you get back on time to take the 9pm northern lights tour? Or do you offer a tour after this Day trip for the auroras?
Many thanks.

Hello, does the trip include a stop at Reynisfjara Beach ?
Written 17 July 2019
The trip I took did not include Reynisfjara Beach. The tour did stop at Vik for dinner on the way back, but it was dark by then (being November), and there wouldn't be time to explore very far.

Hi, we’re coming to beautiful Iceland in two weeks, we are so excited! Unfortunately due to the limited time of our stay, we can only have one full day trip. We are torn between this one and the golden circle (I’m more for this one as I’m drawn to water and ice), does this trip include a stop off at diamond beach? Where is that beautiful plane wreckage, is that viewable on this trip? If we book it, we’ll hopefully be coming on the 14th Jan and there’ll be two of us. I know the glacier lake has no boat trips on during this period due to weather etc, but would we be able to go to the glacier lake and see it? Are there any glacier caves we could visit, no matter how small? Sorry for the million questions, I want to do it right. The waterfall sounds beautiful, I’ve heard it can almost freeze over in January?
Look forward to hearing from you
Kayleigh

This includes waterfalls like the golden circle, but not geysirs. There is a long stop-off at the glacier lagoon and diamond beach, which are adjacent. Notwithstanding the boat trip, you can spend time at the lake and lagoon or take a short walk to the diamond beach. There is no stop at the airplane wreck and it was not visible by road. The glacier caves are not included in this tour, you would need more time for that. I agree with you, if there is recommended one tour from Reykjavik, it was this one.
